If your seriusly into Heavy Metal listen to Canible Corpse (though I wouldn't recomend it)... Try Lamb of God, OTEP, or a pesonal favorite of mine, Megadeath( Jeff is an amazing guitarist)

It would help to know what bands you already listen to. Most of these aren't heavy metal, but they should be just fine.
Fear Factory (Industrial Metal)
Korn (Nu Metal)
Vader (Death Metal)
In Flames (Melodic Death Metal)
Amon Amarth (Death Metal)
Judas Priest (Heavy Metal/NWBHM)
System Of A Down (Alternative Metal)
Slayer (Death Metal)
Lamb Of God (Death Metal)

Slayer (Death Metal)
Lamb Of God (Death Metal)
I just need to correct you because I'm a bit of an arsehole about these things but, Slayer is Speed/Thrash Metal and Lamb of God is Metalcore.

Opeth (not Otep)
I'm not sure if your correcting me or substituting Opeth for OTEP... But OTEP is a real band, the lead singer is a chick that sings like a dude.
Dr. Lucien Sanchez
03-05-2007, 12:45 AM
I know that Otep are a real band I just want to make sure that Plainsofsorrow knows that I'm talking about a different band and just haven't made a typo. Also, I wouldn't really classify Otep to be metal, or at least they're not really that metal. I'd go as far as to call them 'Nu-Metal'. Plus, her growls are shit. If you want to hear a woman really sound like a bloke listen to Arch Enemy (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOdIvHTIiaU). Though I don't really like the new Arch Enemy stuff.

Opeth, Opeth and Opeth.
that is all.
I just need to correct you because I'm a bit of an arsehole about these things but, Slayer is Speed/Thrash Metal and Lamb of God is Metalcore.
QFT
And to Plains, you can't go wrong with Pantera.
Opeth is good, but, well, I saw them live, and all they played was directionless songs that lasted for more than 10 minutes each. Although I have to admit, Reveries has got some damn good songs, I just can't see someone going straight from Heavy Metal to Opeth, which is Progressive Metal (same category as Dream Theatre and some of Tool), with gothic vox. Just doesn't seem like a logical leap. Don't mean to bash Opeth, I like Reveries and Deliverance, but you gotta like budget time in to listen to their songs, lol.

I dunno. I went from Radiohead to Opeth. Maybe that's because of the whole progressive thing, but I don't think Opeth are that hard to get into once you've got past the death vocals.

Hmm, I'll list some bands that I really enjoy. Some you either listen to, hate or have heard of them before.
-Rammstein (my favourite band)
-3 Inches of Blood
-Lamb of God
-Children of Bodom
-All That Remains (Awesome Metalcore band....Get the album 'The Fall of ideals')
-Satyricon
-1349
-Kreator (like trash? try this band)
-Mendeed
-Bring me the Horizon
-Trivium
-In Flames
-Arch Enemy
-Nile
-Dimmu Borgir
-I Killed the Prom Queen : (The new I Killed The Prom Queen record Music for The Recently Deceased (released on the 31st of July) was produced by Fredrik Nordstrom (Dimmu Borgir, Darkest Hour, At the Gates and In Flames), the record is a display of Australian Metal/Metalcore, merging with the 'Gothenburg sound. Blunt Magazine's reviewer James Cotterell gave the record 10/10. Showing some love for my fellow Aussie Metallers.)
-Engel (unsigned band with an awesome Demo. Standout song is Casket Closing)
They are some bands I like, you may like them, but if you haven't heard of them, give them a go.

The Boy Least Likely Too and The Ditty Bops are two bands you should definitely check out. The Ditty Bops are a little bit more thrash though so I don't if that's what you are really looking for.

whilst these are excellent choices hogan, perhaps a group like Kings Of Convenience which combines classic glam metal with high-speed thrash should be top of your list of recommendations.

Hmm a valid point. Of course if you want something a little more Viking/Black/Grindcore the only logical choice would be Grandaddy.

true, although in the viking spectrum there's also groups like Aberfeldy and Neutral Milk Hotel to bear in mind. and it's stupid to bring up black metal without mentioning the Apples in Stereo.

Nop, my dear...I look into my itunes folder to share MY interest of bands I listen to...
If you've got a problem with me knowing so many bands or listen them, just expressing my aprreciation for them then you can just keep your comments for you.

These are some of my choices...
Epic/Power Metal - (I take it that bands like Nightwish and Rhapsody are a given) Kamelot, Epica, Magica (No, not the album, it's a band), Sirenia, Angra, Leaves' Eyes, Orion Riders, Visions of Atlantis, Catharsis, Heavenly (French one), Altaria, Sonata Arctica, Edenbridge, Dragonland, Freedom Call, etc
Much of Epic/Power metal has some overlap with classical/symphonic metal. (However, a lot of times, Neo classical and symphonic metal are categorized differently, because neo-classical actually plays with classical pieces whereas symphonic metal is simply when there's symphonic sound being used in a metal song.)
Baroque/Neo Classical Metal - Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, Paul Gilbert, Symphony X, Trans-Siberian Orchestra (I love Christmas metal ;)), Lori Linstruth, Marty Friedman, Jonas Hansson, Majestic, Michael Romeo, Vinnie Moore... (If you hear the word like 'guitar virtuoso', there's a fair chance that the guitarist has or had some kind of neo classical metal career.)
Folk Metal - Skyclad (the founder of the genre), Schandmaul, Agalloch, Subway To Sally, Schattentanz, Falkenbach, Tanqery, Letzte Instanz, Mago de Oz, Korpiklaani, Adhur, etc...
Folk metal is a genre that is virtually unknown outside of Europe. Only forms of folk metal that makes it into US/Asian market are mostly cross-overed with black/death/thrash metal. But you always have the online order.
Industrial Metal - Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Megaherz, KMFDM, OOMPH!, Blut aus Nord, Die Krupps, Laibach, Ministry, Ruoska, etc... I only know the famous ones in this genre.

Hmm, if I would have to suggest a few bands...
Heavy/thrash/Progressive metal: Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica (older albums), Slayer, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, John Petrucci, Anthrax, Black Label Society, Black Sabbath, Guns'N'Roses, Judas Priest, Manowar, Kreator
Industrial/Elektronic metal: Fear Factory, Bind Torture Kill, Suicide Commando (elektronic is not really my style, don't know a lot of them...)
Black metal: Belphegor, Immortal, Satyricon, Lord Belial, Ancient Rites, Peste Noire, Darkthrone, Carpathian Forest, Enthroned, Marduk, Emperor, Mayhem, Thirst
Death/Technical death/Gore/Grind metal: Death, Decapitated, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Necrophagist, Origin, Beneath The Massacre, Vital Remains, Obituary, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Carcass, Impaled, Ion Dissonance, Macabre

All Shall Perish is pretty good, Opeth is amazing, and for whomever thought OTEP was a misspelling of Opeth, its another death metal band. OTEP has a chick singer. Also, listen to:
August Burns Red
Into Eternity
Avenged Sevenfold
and classics like:
Black Sabbath
Metallica (just no Load, ReLoad or St.Anger)
Dio
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Ozzy Osbourne
Rush(not really heavy metal but sick drummer)
and extremes like:
Behemoth
Satyricon
Cradle of Filth(only a few good songs, they really aint too good)
