Welcome everyone, to Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One!

Okay, this is the newest game show concept for the boards.

Here's how it works:

- Once I have two players, a game can begin. If you'd like to play sometime, please sign up at any time and I'll add you to the queue. Pretty much anyone can sign up and since there's basically no on-show qualification process on the version of the program I watched (which was Maury Povich's Twenty One revival), there's no qualification process here really either. However, there are a few exceptions. Please don't sign up if you haven't been a member of the Shrine for at least three months. Also, don't bother signing up if your username is sain, Rude666, ruin_sword, kilgoretrout, Manga Legend, Shadow Mage, etc.

- Once the game starts, it is conducted by Private Messaging. I will send each player their questions. The point values range from 1-11. A point value of 1 is absurdly easy and only has three answer choices. A point value of 11 is rather hard and has four possible answers, two of which are correct. That's the basic idea. Of course, the objective is to earn as high a score as possible and theoretically get to 21 points before your opponent does. You'll be given a category first and then you choose your point value you want to play for based on your perceived knowledge of that category. You'll want to be careful because if you get it wrong, you get a strike. Three strikes, and you are out.

- Both players get a Second Chance, somebody they can call on for help. They may use the second chance once per game. If the Second Chance's answer is correct, they continue as normal. But if it's wrong and they choose to go with it, they receive two strikes.

- Once both players have answered two questions, both will be given an opportunity to stop the game. That will be posted here for everyone to see. If neither has stopped the game within twelve hours, then play continues.

- Whoever wins the game is the champion. He or she then plays "Perfect Twenty One" for the chance to go for some additional gil. More about that later.

- The champion can continue indefinitely, playing for increasing gil amounts, assuming he or she keeps winning. The first game is for 25000 gil and the values escalate all the way up to one million gil. If anyone wins that, then he or she keeps going for new games at that dollar value. There is no risk, and except in "Perfect Twenty One," you can never lose once you have won.

- Once a game has ended, I will post a full detail of the questions and answers here at the thread.

Additional Notes:

One-Six Point Questions - Questions of this point value are easier in general because the only have three answer choices to select from.

Seven-Nine Point Questions - Getting harder as besides the higher level of knowledge being tested, there are also four answer choices.

Ten Point Question - One of the answer choices is always "D.) None of the Above."

Eleven Point Question - Most difficult. There are five answer choices and two of them are correct.

Nobody walks away empty-handed --- everyone leaves with at least 1000 gil.

Three strikes and you're out. If your opponent gets three strikes, it may still be possible for you to strikeout within that round. If that happens, then both players lose and two new challengers are brought into the game.

Money Ladder:

25000 gil
50000 gil
100000 gil
250000 gil
500000 gil
One million gil

Agent0042

Okay, here's how it's going to work. On the show, they would close a player's booth, then give the player a category. The player would select a point value and then receive a multiple-choice question from that category based on that point value. After they had answered, right or wrong, the other player's booth would be unlocked and so on. After two rounds, both players would be given the opportunity to stop the game. I think we can streamline it a bit here. Since it'll be conducted by PM, I can ask you both at least two questions regardless of where the other player is at. Then, after two rounds, you'll both have the opportunity to stop the game as usual. I still don't have much time right now, so more details later. Right now, I'm going to go ahead and send you both a PM...

Agent0042
01-11-2007, 02:33 PM
Okay, here's where we're at. Right now, both of our players have answered two questions. They each have no idea of the other's point total. In a moment, I'm going to give both of them an opportunity to stop the game. If either of you would like to stop the game, just say "Agent, I'd like to stop the game." You have 24 hours in which to say this. If neither of you do, or you both PM me saying you want to continue, then we'll play until one or both reach 21. More on that later. If you do stop the game, then whoever has more points wins immediately. If you're tied, we go into a sudden-death tie-breaker.

Would either of you like to stop the game?

Agent0042

Okay, you were supposed to PM me if you wanted to continue, but I'll accept that. Lukey, if you're reading this before the 24 hour period is up, please choose to either stop the game or send me a PM letting me know your intention to continue with normal gameplay.

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 05:46 PM

Agent0042
01-14-2007, 06:15 AM
Okay, here's where we're at everyone! Both of our players, Gummi Bears and Lukey, have reached 21 points in three questions! That means that we are tied.

Now on the original Twenty One, if there was a tie, then both players would move on to another game. However, we've got other players here eager for their shot at playing, so instead, we are moving to a sudden-death tie-breaker situation. Here's how it's going to work. Gummi Bears and Lukey --- I will be sending you both the same question, one that's going to be reasonably difficult. If both of you get it right, or both get it wrong, then we go to another question. If after three, you're still tied, then, well you're both extremely good, and I'll just have to figure out another tie-breaking method. But let's give this a shot...

Mr Jack
01-15-2007, 02:56 PM

Agent0042

Agent0042
01-17-2007, 10:15 PM
The match was eventually ended by a coin-toss and Gummi Bears is our first champion and the winner of 25000 gil! Lukey will be put on priority to return later. When I have a chance later this evening, I'll post the full results of the game.

But, Gummi Bears, for now, you have an opportunity to win up to 210000 additional gil in Perfect Twenty One. I'm not touching you already won, that's safe. But you can answer a total of up to six true/false questions, rising in value from 10000 gil to 60000 gil. You'll have an opportunity to get out after each question because if you miss, you lose everything you earned up to that point in Perfect Twenty One.

Your category is Selphie Tilmitt. Here is your first question:

True or False: Selphie's best weapon Strange Vision has an accuracy rating of 100%

Pos
01-17-2007, 10:40 PM
Indeed it does.

Sorry Irv but I won by luck not by knowledge:(

Agent0042
01-18-2007, 12:02 AM
Wrong

Sorry, but Selphie's Strange Vision has an accuracy, or hit percentage of 255% --- the highest possible of any weapon in the game.

Well, that's all for Perfect Twenty One, but you still have the 25000 gil you won from your game. I'll get things updated later this evening.

Pos
01-18-2007, 12:42 AM

No biggie, Gummi Bears. You're still the champion for now and if you win against your next opponent, you'll have another shot at Perfect Twenty One.

And yeah, sure IDX Rider, I'll add you. In just a little bit here, I'm going to get the leaderboard and queue and everything set up and get this show back on the road properly.

Edit: Status board updated. The rest will have to wait until tomorrow, or rather, later today.

Agent0042
01-19-2007, 12:24 AM
Okay, let's do this. First, I'll post the summary of the previous match.

Agent0042: Good evening, and welcome to Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One, Final Fantasy Shrine's biggest-money game show. Tonight you'll watch as two opponents battle it out for the chance to win ever-increasing gil. Each contestant is locked an isolation booth and has no idea what's happening with their opponent. Players will answer multiple-choice questions of varying difficultly, hoping to be the first to reach 21. The first game is worth 25000 gil. The champion then plays against their next opponent for 50000 gil for escalating gil amounts up to one million gil --- and keep on going! There's no limit to the winnings here... on Twenty One!!!

(dramatic, exciting music plays)

I'm here with our first two contestants, Gummi Bears and Lukey. Both of our players have been with us on the Shrine for a fair while now. Lukey is a 17 year-old student from Australia. Gummi Bears a.k.a. Xander is an IT administrator and in charge of the Shrine's FFIX Rumble.

Well, let's get started with our game. Lukey, I'm going to close your booth. Everybody will have the same chance to reach 21. Let's begin with Lukey.

Lukey, you first category is Quotes. How many points would you like to play for on Quotes?

Lukey: I'll take a six-point question in that category.
Agent: Okay, going for a six-point question on Quotes.

Who said this:

"One would say we've been run down... That's what they'd normally say..."

Was that:

A.) Kiros
B.) Laguna
C.) Squall
D.) Zell

Lukey: That would be, A.) Kiros.
Agent: And you're correct, and you have six points. (Lukey's booth closes and Gummi Bears's opens.) Welcome, Gummi Bears! Your category for the first question is Quotes.
Gummi Bears: I'll take a six-point question.
Agent: All right, a six-point question. (repeats Lukey's question / answer-set, as when two players select the same point value, they get the same question and answer choices)
Gummi Bears: I believe that's A.) Kiros.
Agent: And you're correct and you have six points. (closes and opens booths) Okay, Lukey, your second-round category is Irvine. How many points would you like to play for?
Lukey: I'll go with a seven-point question.
Agent: Okay, a seven-point question on Irvine. Here we go:

Which of the following is not one of Irvine's guns? Is it:

A.) Bismarck
B.) Excelsior
C.) Valiant
D.) Exeter

Lukey: That's B.) Excelsior.
Agent: And you are once again correct and you are now at 13 points. (closes and opens booths) Gummi Bears, the category is Irvine. How many points would like to try for?
Gummi Bears: Let's try a seven-point question. (gasp from audience, which Gummi Bears can't hear)
Agent: (maintaining his cool) Okay, let's go for a seven-point question on Irvine. (once again repeats question and answer-set)
Gummi Bears: I'm going with B.) Excelsior.
Agent: And you're correct and you have 13 points! (opens both players booths) Okay, here's where we're at right now. Both of your booths are open. This is the end of round two. In a minute, I'm going to give both of you a chance to stop the game, but first I'm closing both your booths to give you an opportunity to think about it. (closes booths) And, as everyone can clearly see, if either player were to stop the game right now, we would be in a tie situation and would have to go to a tie-breaker. (opens booths) Would either of you like to stop the game? ... ... ... No? Then we'll continue. (closes Gummi Bear's booth) Okay, Lukey. You're at 13 points. Obviously, if you take an eight-point question now, you would reach 21. How many points would you like to play for on the category Triple Triad?
Lukey: Well, let's do eight points.
Agent: Okay, eight points it is.

Which of the following levels is the Pupu card? Is it:

A.) Level 4
B.) Level 5
C.) Level 7
D.) Level 8

Lukey: That's Level 5.
Agent: And you're correct and you've reached 21. However, I must inform you that your opponent also has the opportunity to reach 21 points in this round. If he does, we move into a tie-breaker situation. (closes booth) Okay, Gummi Bears, your category is Triple Triad. If you select an eight-point question, you'll reach 21. How many points would you like to play for?
Gummi Bears: Let's make it eight.
Agent: All right, an eight point question. (repeats question and answer set)
Gummi Bears: That's B.) Level 5.
Agent: And you're correct and you have 21 points! (opens Lukey's booth) Okay, you are tied.

(A series of tie-breakers follow, but both players keep getting them right. Eventually, it goes to a coin-toss. Gummi Bears chooses heads and wins, but Lukey will have a chance to come back later. Gummi Bears plays Perfect Twenty One, but gets stumped on a question about Selphie's Strange Vision.)

Agent: And now a new round beings. Gummi Bears has won 25000 gil. barretboy14 now arrives to try and take away his championship. Both Gummi Bears and Lukey proved their mettle in the previous match, so it'll be an interesting battle. Stay tuned!

I had an opportunity to watch a repeat of the Maury Povich version of the show earlier tonight. I've updated the rules list in the first post in the thread, based on what I saw on there. Current and future players would be well-advised to take a look.

Okay, we are at the end of Round Two. Right now, both of our current players, Gummi Bears and barretboy14 have answered two questions, either rightly or wrongly. Neither has any idea of the others' total. You have up to eighteen hours to stop the game --- if you do, whoever has more points will be the champion. If you'd like to stop the game, say so here. If you'd like to continue playing, PM me saying you don't want to stop it within that time period.

Would either of you like to stop the game?

Agent0042
01-31-2007, 05:26 PM
All right, everyone, here's the situation. barretboy has struck out of the game. Our current champion, Gummi Bears, is being timed out due to lack of response.

Right now, I'm giving serious consideration as to whether this game is even workable on here. I'm not ready to abandon it just yet, but I do have serious concerns. I need some people that are on the list of upcoming contestants to respond and I need you to let me know that you are active and ready to play, and will be for a while. This game doesn't work if the players just disappear --- it's not fair to their opponents.

Mr Jack
01-31-2007, 05:29 PM
Yo Agent...give it another go...im ready when you are, though i'm not online on weekends and time difference may have an effect, other than that...im all for it!!

Okay, I can work with that. I'd like to hear with the next people on the list if possible, and Lukey, who is still owed a game.

Xander? No idea. He indicated that he was going to busy, but should be able to at least stop by, but I haven't seen him for several days now.

Before we get going again, let's summarize the previous match...

Announcer: Last time, on Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One...

Agent0042: Gummi Bears, the tie is broken, you just won 25,000 gil!

barretboy14 and Gummi Bears. These two will face each other tonight, continuing on the quest to win the most gil awarded in Final Fantasy Shrine game show history. It's Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One!

(dramatic music plays)

Joining us today is barretboy14. He was a big winner recently on "Final Fantasy IX Millionaire." He's here to challenge Gummi Bears for a spot in the champion's seat. Both of them have entered their respective soundrpoof booths, so let's start Twenty One!

barretboy14, your first category is Squall Leonhart. How many points would you like to play for?
barretboy14: I'll try for an 11 point question.
Agent0042: Whoa. Ambitious. Okay...

The Romanji translation of Squall's name is:

A.) Sukōru Leonhatu
B.) Sudaki Reonhāto
C.) Sukōru Reonhāto
D.) Sufuro Leonghāto

barretboy14: Wow, I'm really not sure. I'm going to go with A.)
Agent0042: A? No, I'm sorry, the correct answer was B.) Sudaki Reonhāto. You have no points and one strike, but it's still early. ... Okay, Gummi Bears, the first category is Squall Leonhart. How many points do you wish to play for?
Gummi Bears: I'll try an eight point question.
Agent0042: Very well, an eight point question...

Which of the following is not said or thought by Squall?

A.) Why me!? I have enough problems as it is! Don't get me involved in this!
B.) You'd better take full responsibility! It's your fault!
C.) (Did I say something terrible? Women... I don't understand women.)
D.) So you've become the sorceress' lap dog?

Gummi Bears: I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's B.)

Agent0042: And you're correct, and you have eight points! ... barretboy, your category for the second round is Trabia Garden. How many points on a question about Trabia Garden?
barretboy14: I'm going to scale back and try for six points.
Agent0042: All right, a six point question on Trabia Garden...

In Trabia Garden, there is a guy muttering in his sleep about GF summoning. What GF name does he blurt out? Is that:

A.) Carbuncle
B.) Cactuar
C.) Tonberry
D.) Pandemona

barretboy14: I'm going with C.) Tonberry.
Agent0042: Correct, for six points! ... Gummi Bears, the category for the second round is Trabia Garden. How many points on Trabia Garden?
Gummi Bears: I'll take six points.
Agent0042: Okay, six it is...

(repeats question given to barretboy)

Gummi Bears: Going to have to take a guess --- A.) Carbuncle.

Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, it's C.) Tonberry. You have one strike, but you have eight points. ... Okay, nobody talk. Both of your booths are open. This is the end of Round Two. In just a second, I'm going to give both of you a chance to stop the game. ... Would either of you like to stop the game? ... No? Then we'll continue. ... barretboy14, you're still in this. Your third round category is Laguna Loire. How many points would you like to play for?
barretboy14: Eight please.
Agent0042: All right, eight points.

When Laguna tells the characters about his plan to defeat Ultimecia, he tells them to all think of one place and imagine being in it. He says it's all about three things. Which of the following is not one of those:

A.) Love
B.) Determination
C.) Courage
D.) Friendship

barretboy14: I think it's A.) Love, but I'm not really sure.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, it was C.) Courage. You're at two strikes. ... Gummi Bears, the category is Laguna Loire. How many points on Laguna Loire?
Gummi Bears: Ah, hell, give me a ten-pointer...
Agent0042: Okay, ten points, then...

Which of the following was the very first thing said by Laguna in the very first Laguna "dream sequence:"

A.) Huh? ......Hmm... Okay, fine!
B.) Now where'd they go?
C.) Well, you see... It's just that, uhh...
D.) None of the above

(... ... ...)

barretboy14, the category is Boss Monsters. How many points please?
barretboy14: I'll try for ten. I can always ask Mr. Denny if I get5 stuck.
Agent0042: Yep, wouldn't hurt since you already have two strikes. Okay...

If you manage to successfully defeat the XATM092, the giant spider monster in Dollet, you randomly receive one of several items that grant you a bonus that can be categorized as which of the following?

A.) +40% Character Stat
B.) +40% GF Stat
C.) +60% GF Stat
D.) None of the Above

barretboy14: It's going to have to be a guess --- A.) +40% Character Stat.
Agent0042: No, perhaps you should have asked Mr. Denny. It was B.) 40% GF Stat. I'm afraid you've struck out. And Gummi Bears has been timed out, which means we need two new players...

Let's meet our newest contestants! Since Swedish Fish was higher up on the list than IDX Rider, he's in. From Lanham, Maryland, he's been with us on the Shrine for well over a year now. He went by Kailas. He's 14-years-old and has his own band. Mr Jack has been her about as long as Swedish Fish. He's 18, works as a contracts assistant and lives in the UK.

Okay, you two. Shake hands, head over to your respective soundproof booths, and let's play Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One!

02-20-2007, 04:55 PM
Whew. Okay, finally...

... ... ...

Agent0042: Okay, going for a three-point question on Historic Game Events. You have eighteen, this would put you at your desired total of 21.

After a series of adventures, Laguna Loire surprisingly ended up becoming the president of an entire nation. That nation is:

A.) Esthar
B.) Galbadia
C.) Trabia

Mr. Jack: A.) Esthar

Agent0042: You're correct, and you've just won Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One and 250000 gil! ... Swedish Fish, come on out of your booth. I'm sorry to tell you, your opponent has won the game. You struck out, unfortunately, but nobody leaves empty-handed. Here's 1,000 gil!

I'll post the full summary of the game later this evening, but until then, let's begin Final Fantasy VIII Perfect Twenty One. Mr Jack --- here's how it's going to work. I'm going to ask you a series of true/false questions on the same category, starting at 1 point and 10000 gil and rising to as much as 6 points and 60000 gil. You can get out at any time after the first question, but if you risk it and lose, you lose everything you earned to that point. Except the 25000 gil. We're not touching that.

Okay, the category is GFs. For one point, and 10000 gil...

True/False - The term "GF" stands for "Guardian Fury."

Mr Jack
02-20-2007, 05:02 PM
that would be false....guardian force i do believe

Agent0042

Agent0042: This is a trivia game, not a help thread. If you want to sign up, say that you're interested in playing, and you'll be added to the list. Or rather, you would be if you qualified under the rules (which are back on the first page of the thread), but you don't currently.

Agent0042
02-21-2007, 04:51 AM
Okay, here's the summary of that last match:

Agent0042: Welcome to the game! Let's get started right away. The category for the first round is Galbadia Garden. How many points on a question about Galbadia Garden?
Swedish Fish: I'll try a five point question to start out.
Agent0042: Okay, starting conversatively with a five point question:

At Galbadia Garden, the party learns about the supposed execution of which of the following characters?

A.) Raijin
B.) Seifer
C.) Watts

Swedish Fish: That would be B.) Seifer.
Agent0042: And you're correct for five points. ... Mr Jack, welcome to Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One! Let's get started right away. The category for the first round is Galbadia Garden. How many points on a question about Galbadia Garden?
Mr Jack: I'm going to try seven points on Galbadia Garden.
Agent0042: Going for seven points on Galbadia Garden...

Galbadia Garden's headmaster, Martine, ends up in what town and carries which Tetra Master card if you lose it to General Caraway?

A.) Winhill and Shiva
B.) Fisherman's Horizon and Ifrit
C.) Balamb Town and Ifrit
D.) Deling City and Shiva

Mr Jack: That would be b - 100% sure - im a big fan of Tetra Master.
Agent0042: Correct, for seven points! ... Okay, Swedish Fish, your category for the second round is The World Map. How many points on a question related to The World Map?
Swedish Fish: I'll go for six.
Agent0402: Okay, a six-point question, which would bring you up to eleven.

The World Map contains many secret Draw Points. Although they can be found throughout the world, most of these draw points are located on the Islands Closest to Heaven and Hell. But which island has more draw points?

A.) The Island Closest to Heaven
B.) The Island Closest to Hell
C.) Both islands have an equal amount of draw points.

Swedish Fish I'll say C.) Both islands have an equal amount of draw points. I've really only used the islands for leveling, but this sounds about right.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, the correct answer was actually B.) The Island Closest to Hell. It's larger and has more draw points. You still have five points, but one strike now. ... Mr Jack, your category this time is The World Map. How many points in this category?
Mr Jack: I'll Try 8 points this time, please.
Agent0042: All right, an eight point question, that would bring you to fifteen points.

Of the following locations, which is the only one that is accessible without the Ragnarok?

A.) Cactuar Island
B.) Dollet - Long Horn Island
C.) Deep Sea Research Center
D.) Island Closest to Hell

Mr Jack: I'll try Cactuar Island because you can reach it via chocobo.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, to my knowledge, you can't get to Cactuar Island via chocobo. You might be thinking of Esthar - Kashkabald Desert, which you can get to just by walking. The correct answer was Dollet's Long Horn Island. You have one strike and seven points.
Mr Jack: Hmm, okay, I must be wrong then, oops, I was thinkin of when you can get the Ragnarok on Disc 4 by walking to a chocobo forest north of Esthar and maneuvering through the shallow waters to get to the Ragnarok, which is on Cactuar Island.
Agent0042: No, just to clarify, the Cactuar Island is surrounded entirely by sea. I'm almost certain the Ragnarok is found on Disc 4 within Esthar's Kashkabald Desert, where you can encounter cactuars, hence the confusion. ... ... Okay, this is the end of Round Two. Right now, both of your booths are open. In just a second, I'm going to give both of you a chance to stop the game. Remember, please only stop the game if you think you're in the lead. .... ... Would either of you like to stop the game? ... ... No? Okay, we'll continue. ... Swedish Fish, your category this time is Quistis Trepe. How many points in that category?
Swedish Fish: I'll go for six again.
Agent0042: Okay, six points on Quistis Trepe...

Which of the following is one of Quistis's Blue Magics?

A.) 1000 Needles
B.) Acid
C.) Pandora's Box

Swedish Fish: Ah, I know this one. It's A.) 1000 Needles.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry. It was actually Acid. Quistis never learns 1000 Needles, GF Cactuar has that ability. I'm afraid that's your second strike. ... Mr Jack, we're continuing with Round Three. The category this time is Quistis Trepe. How many points in that category?
Mr Jack: 7 points.
Agent0042: How many years before being told she had "failed an instructor" and becoming a member of SeeD did Quistis get her instructor license?

A.) One Year
B.) Two Years
C.) Two and Half Years
D.) Three Years

Mr Jack: I'm going for B.) Two Years. It's just a rough guess and I may be wrong.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, it was actually only A.) One Year before Quistis's fated conversation with Squall in the "secret area" that she got her instructor license. That's your second strike. ... Well, Swedish Fish, you're at two strikes. You're not completely out of it yet, but you're hanging on by a thread. Your category for this fourth round is Notable Sidequests. How many points on this category?
Swedish Fish: Four points on this one, please.
Agent0042: All right, Notable Sidequests, for four points:

In the chocobo sidequest, the ChocoKid gives you two tools to use. Those are:

A.) ChocoSonar and ChocoZiner
B.) ChocoCaller and ChocoBop
C.) ChocoWhis and ChocoLute

Swedish Fish: I remember a "Siner", so I'll say A.) ChocoSonar and ChocoZiner.
Agent0042: That's correct, and you're now up to nine points! ... Mr Jack, you currently have seven points and two strikes, so you're not quite out of this yet. Still a shot you could hang in there. Your next category is Notable Sidequests, how many points do you want to play for?
Mr Jack: I'm gonna go for broke and choose maximum points, 11. Even if I don't know it, it might help other people who play the game to understand how hard maximum is....so lets have it.
Agent0042: Wow. Going all out with an 11 point question on the category of Notable Sidequests. That would bring you up to eighteen points. Remember, with an 11 point question, there are five answer choices and two of them are correct, so you have to get both correct in order to get the points:

In the Obel Lake sidquest, a creature at the lake gives you a series of clues to find treasures. There are many clues, but which two of the following five are not actual clues that this creature gives?

A.) "Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula."
B.) "What I wouldn't give to break near the sands of heaven."
C.) "Mr. Monkey had a rock like this I think..."
D.) "Once upon a time, I found a trinket in the world's coldest forest."
E.) "Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful village surrounded by deep forests. Everyone lived a happy life there."

Mr Jack: Ok, lets break this one down.... I know A is real because i was a dumbass then and had to look up the term peninsula to understand what it was.... I also have an inklink that E is real because it sound kind of familiar... that leaves B,C and D.. Im going to go with D and B, because C sounds logically relevant to this sidequest....Though, having said that, im starting to think you may have snuck a sly answer in there.....If that be the case...i accept defeat gracefully....
Agent0042: Your logic and instincts paid off! You're correct and you've made it up to eighteen points! ... Swedish Fish, your category now is Historic Game Events. How many points for this category?
Swedish Fish: Six, please.
Agent0042: Okay, trying a six point question on Historic Game Events to bring you up to fifteen.

Julia's death was caused by:

A.) Suicide - She took her own life.
B.) Car crash
C.) Illness

Swedish Fish: I believe that was C.) Illiness.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry. Not very dramatic. It was actually a car crash that caused her death. Well, I'm afraid that's three strikes. You're out of the game. However, I must inform you that your opponent could also still strike out in this round. If that happened, neither of you would be champion and we would move on to two new players. ... ... Mr Jack, your category for this round is Historic Game Events. You've made it to eighteen points, so you only need three to win.
Mr Jack: Then let's make it a three point question.
Agent0042: For three points, and possibly the game:

After a series of adventures, Laguna Loire surprisingly ended up becoming the president of an entire nation. That nation is:

A.) Esthar
B.) Galbadia
C.) Trabia

Mr. Jack: A.) Esthar
Agent0042: You're correct, and I have good news! Your opponent has struck out --- you're our champion; you've just won 25,000 gil!

Mr Jack
02-21-2007, 10:31 AM
*yay* - ill have another go!

Agent0042
02-21-2007, 06:25 PM
All right, another go at the category of GFs, playing for an additional two points and 20,000 gil...

True/False - Diablos is the only GF that can learn the valuable abilities Enc-Half and Enc-None.

Mr Jack
02-21-2007, 06:27 PM
Ill go for True....and i wont be able to reply until tommorow so ill quit while im ahead if am right!

Thanx for a good game anyways Agent!

Agent0042
02-21-2007, 06:37 PM
Correct

That is true, so you finish Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One with an additional 30,000 gil to add to your winnings! Not bad! I've already sent out a PM to a couple of people on the list, so I'm waiting to hear back if they're available to play.

Agent0042
02-26-2007, 04:21 AM
Okay, everyone, we've got a new game going! IDX Rider is up against Mr Jack as he defends his championship in the hope of winning more gil than any player in Final Fantasy Shrine game show history! IDX Rider seems to identify with Squall from Final Fantasy VIII. According to his profile, he hails from "Nowhere" and has no interests and is unemployed. A true nihilist, to be sure. He's been with us on the Shrine since about mid-last-year.

IDX
02-26-2007, 06:53 AM
I knew I should've picked a different form of "nothing" for my occupation!

Agent0042
02-27-2007, 07:41 PM
Well, it's that time again, the end of the second round. Would either of you like to stop the game?

P.S.: I really need more people to play, if anyone is interested in signing up, please do let me know here.

Alexandria12
02-27-2007, 09:57 PM
As I'm eligible, I shall give it a go. My FFVIII knowledge isn't quite up to par though, but it seems fun!

So sign me up!!! :)

Agent0042
02-27-2007, 10:02 PM
:) Excellent, sure! You're in. I'll add you to the list.

IDX
02-27-2007, 11:04 PM
Yup. I'd like to keep going.

Agent0042
03-05-2007, 07:14 PM
IDX Rider --- your opponent has just struck out! Congratulations, you're the new champion!

I'll post the full results of the game later. Right now, it's time to begin Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One. Remember, it's six true/false questions, each with a point value moving up to 6 and each point representing 10000 gil. You can stop at any point after the first question, but if you continue and you get it wrong, you lose everything you earned up to that point in Perfect FFVIII Twenty One, but not the 25000 gil you earned for winning your first game.

The category this time is Music. First question, true/false:

The closing song of the game, "Eyes on Me" is performed by Emiko Shiratori.

IDX
03-06-2007, 12:08 AM
That would be false. The woman who sang that song is Faye Wong.

Agent0042
03-06-2007, 02:16 AM
And that's correct, for 10000 gil. Did you want to continue in this category and try another question for 20000 gil (bringing the total to 30000)?

IDX
03-06-2007, 02:47 AM
Sure. I think I can have another go with the music category :).

Agent0042
03-06-2007, 05:16 AM
:) Wonderful! For an additional 20000 gil then, here's another true/false:

The tune "The Landing" is only heard in one sequence in Final Fantasy VIII.

IDX
03-06-2007, 05:20 AM
That would also be false. They play it during the Garden Battle.

Agent0042
03-06-2007, 05:23 AM
And you're correct once again, bringing you to 30000 gil! Try your luck with yet another one?

(P.S.: I don't have time to post the results of the game tonight, but I almost certainly should be able to get it posted tomorrow. "Results" meaning the full summary of the questions/answers, etc.)

IDX
03-06-2007, 05:25 AM
Doesn't bother me. Let's do it.

Agent0042
03-06-2007, 06:37 AM
Neat. Let's try another then, for 30000 gil to bring the total 60000 gil.

True/false:

Final Fantasy VIII has two chocobo themes --- "Mods de Chocobo" (played while riding a chocobo) and the less well-known "Odeka de Chocobo."

IDX
03-06-2007, 06:46 AM
That one would be true.

Agent0042
03-06-2007, 06:57 AM
Right again! Gonna keep going for 40000 gil? (BTW, if so, you'll get your next question tomorrow, or rather later today sometime in the morning, eastern time.)

IDX
03-06-2007, 06:59 AM
I'm in central time and yeah, I think I can keep going...hopefully.

Agent0042
03-06-2007, 04:53 PM
All right then, you're in for the next question for 40000 gil...

True/false:

It is possible to beat the game without having heard the tune "Blue Sky."

IDX
03-06-2007, 11:06 PM
Hmm, that's actually a good question. I can't even remember when the tune is played. I'll take a guess and say that the answer is false. :/

Agent0042
03-07-2007, 12:14 AM
Ooh, sorry. This one was actually true. That tune is part of the whole sequence involving the mobile garden. It plays when Rinoa runs out to the balcony, but if you chose to send Rinoa on the Missile Base mission instead, then this sequence doesn't appear and you don't get this tune.

Well, the risk didn't pay off this time, but you're still our champion, which means you'll continue on with the game and perhaps have another chance to play FFVIII Twenty One later. I'll keep you posted.

IDX
03-07-2007, 03:44 AM
I had a feeling it had to do with that cutscene, but I couldn't actually remember if music played in the background. Oh well, had fun!

Mr Jack
03-07-2007, 10:12 AM
All right then, you're in for the next question for 40000 gil...

True/false:

It is possible to beat the game without having heard the tune "Blue Sky."

id have said true - simply turn the volume down! lol - good game IDX...

IDX
03-07-2007, 02:17 PM
Yup. Good game.

Agent0042
03-07-2007, 07:41 PM
id have said true - simply turn the volume down!
What's that phrase? "Antics with semantics?" :D

P.S.: I meant to post the results of the game last night but got totally sidetracked. I will try by all means to get them up tonight.

Agent0042
03-08-2007, 05:19 AM
Agent0042: Tonight on Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One, Mr Jack defends his championship as he aims to earn the most money ever won on a Final Fantasy Shrine game show. So let's play FFVIII Twenty One. Both of our contestants are now in their booths and we're ready to begin the match. We start with our new challenger --- that's IDX Rider. The category is Rinoa Heartilly. How many points on this one?
IDX Rider: I'll start out with six points.
Agent0042: All right, a six point question on Rinoa Heartily:

In Rinoa's dream, which she tells him about in the flower field at Edea's house, she and Squall made a promise to:

A.) Go fishing together
B.) See shooting stars together
C.) Be together for the rest of their lives

IDX Rider: My answer is that Rinoa and Squall made a promise to see shooting stars. B.)
Agent0042: You remembered the dream and got yourself six points! ... Mr Jack, the first round category is Rinoa Heartilly. How may points on that one?
Mr Jack: I'll try seven points.
Agent0042: K, starting off with a 7 point question on Rinoa Heartilly. Here we go...

Normally, Rinoa's limit break allows her to "combine" with her dog Angelo for a special move. However, Rinoa goes up into space, her dog Angelo does not go with her. So Rinoa gains access to a new limit. This limit is:

A.) Angel Wing
B.) Sorceress's Guard
C.) High Illumination
D.) Saving Pinion

Mr Jack: I never actually noticed that it was because Angelo never went up to space before, but the answer is A.) Angel Wing.
Agent0042: Angel Wing it is, for seven points! ... IDX Rider, you have six points so far. This time, the category is Vehicles and General Transporation. What's your thought on this one --- how many points?
IDX Rider: I'll try eight points this time..
Agent0042: All right, going for an eight point question on Vehicles and General Transportation. That would bring you up to 14 points:

In order to reach Caraway's Mansion when you first arrive in Deling City, Rinoa instructs the party to board:

A.) A Taxi
B.) Bus 02
C.) Bus 08
D.) Bus 20

IDX Rider: Wow, how am I supposed to know that one? I'm going with a wild guess here --- I think that's C.) Bus 08.
Agent0042: Well, perhaps you remembered something, or else it was just a really good guess! You now have 14 points! ... Mr Jack, it's Vehicles and General Transportation this time. How many points on that?
Mr Jack: I'll try another seven-point question.
Agent0042: All right, here we go. This will bring you up to fourteen points:

When Squall and Rinoa board the Ragnarok, they find that it is filled with nasty monsters called Propagators that have to be fought off in pairs. These Propagators come in four different colors:

A.) Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple
B.) Red Yellow, Green, Orange
C.) Red, Yellow, Green, Purple
D.) Red, Yelllow, Green, Blue

Mr Jack: I'm going for B.) because I believe the was an orange one.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, it was actually C.) Red, Yellow, Green, Purple. There was a purple one, but not an orange one. Well, that's one strike. It's still fairly early in the game. ... That's the end of the second round. Would either of you like to stop the game? ... ... We'll continue. Okay, IDX Rider, you have 14 points. This is the third round. The category is Esthar. Seven points will get you to the desired total of 21. Will you be trying for seven points?
IDX Rider: I was a bit scared by the last question, so I'll go with baby steps and three points.
Agent0042: All right, only three points on the category of Esthar. That would bring you to 17.

In order to get to Esthar, the party has to cross a bridge connecting from:

A.) Balamb Town
B.) Fisherman's Horizon
C.) Timber

IDX Rider: That would be B: Fisherman's Horizon.
Agent0042: Yep, Fisherman's it is and that brings you to 17 points. ... Mr Jack, the category for the third round is Esthar. You have one strike and seven points currently. How many points in this category?
Mr Jack: I'm going to try seven again.
Agent0042: Seven it is:

The music piece that plays throughout most of your stay in Esthar is:

A.) Martial Law
B.) Residents
C.) Trail of Tears
D.) Silence and Motion

Mr Jack I have no idea, so I'm going to try my Second Chance and ask Enya for help on this one.
Agent0042: All right, I'll check in with Enya... she opted for D.) Silence and Motion. She called it an "interesting tune" and said that it's one she knows well. You can go with Enya's answer, or you could still opt to go on your own. Remember, you get the points if you're right, but it's two strikes if you're wrong, regardless of what answer you ultimately go with.
Mr Jack: I'll trust Enya on this one. I was thinking "A.) Martial Law" myself.
Agent0042: Wise decision! Enya came through for you --- you're up to 14 points. ... IDX Rider, the category this time is The Ending.I gotta ask, how many points are you playing for?
IDX Rider: I'll do 4 points to make it 21!
Agent0042: All right, this would bring you to 21 points:

Which of the following is said by the final form of the boss Ultimecia?

A.) Life... Dreams... Hope... Where did they come from? And where are they headed? These things... I am going to destroy!
B.) Reflect on your... Childhood... Your sensation... Your words... Your emotions... Time... It will not wait... No matter... ...how hard you hold on. It escapes you... And...
C.) All life bears death from birth. Life fears death, but lives only to die. It starts with anxiety. Anxiety becomes fear. Fear leads to anger... anger leads to hate... hate leads to suffering... The only cure for this fear is total destruction.
IDX Rider: That would be B.).
Agent0042: And you're correct, and you've reached 21 points! However, I can inform you now that your opponent has the ability to tie you within this round. If that were to happen, we would go into a tie-breaker situation. ... Mr Jack, the category is The Ending. You need seven points in order to reach 21. Will you be playing for that?
Mr Jack: I will indeed, and a big thanks to Enya for her help on that last question!
Agent0042: All right, seven points! I can now inform you that your opponent has already reached 21. Therefore, you must get this correct in order to tie the game and move into a tie-breaker situation. Else, IDX Rider is our new champion.

Who says this in the ending --- "Shut up! Just calm down and think where we have to go." Is that:

A.) Irvine
B.) Selphie
C.) Zell
D.) Quistis

Mr Jack: I have seriously no idea, I'm going to go for D.) Quistis, though, because it seems like a girly thing to say and Quistis is more of a leader than the rest.
Agent0042: Your instincts were partly right, but unfortunately the correct answer was B.) Selphie. ... IDX Rider, come on out of your booth, you're our new champion!

We move on to a new match. Our current champion, IDX Rider, is pitted against funnyboy4004. Like IDX Rider, funnyboy identifies with Squall from this game. He joined us on the Shrine back in September. He doesn't have a lot of time to be active on the Shrine, but he's still a welcome addition to our game. Little else is known about him. Well, head on into your booths and let's start a new game of FFVIII Twenty One!

Agent0042
03-09-2007, 01:14 AM
I really need some more players, folks! I understand the reluctance because of the time committment. And I know also that FFVIII is a bit dated and that it isn't the most popular FF here on the Shrine. So depening on how things go, this game may not be around much longer. We'll see!

J. Peterman
03-09-2007, 07:39 AM
AGENT I CAN GET 0 POINTS IN A GAME IF YOU EVER NEED ME TO

REALLY I'LL GET ALL THE QUESTIONS WRONG

Agent0042
03-09-2007, 11:12 PM
Frasier, it would be fun to have you in sometime, just to see you get zero points. :)

J. Peterman
03-09-2007, 11:23 PM
No problem.

Agent0042
03-11-2007, 02:22 AM
This is the end of the second round. Once again, our players are given the opportunity to stop the game. Nobody has tried this so far, will this be the first time? Remember, only stop the game if you think there's a good chance you are in the lead.

Very important --- if you would like to to stop the game, post it here, but if you would prefer to continue, inform me by PM.

rinphie
03-12-2007, 09:57 AM
sounds REEEEEAAAAAAALLLLLLLy fun! sign me up!

rinphie
03-12-2007, 10:13 AM
but wait, i live in singapore, so it will be really difficult for me to answer the questions on time, could u give me alittle more time?

Agent0042
03-12-2007, 03:52 PM
Sure, at this point, I'll take just about anyone, given how few people are signing up.

Agent0042
03-13-2007, 03:20 AM
Agent0042: Okay, heading into the third round. funnyboy4004, you have 15 points. The category is Villages and Cities. Six points will get you to 21, will you be playing for that?
funnyboy4004: Yep, I'll go for six.
Agent0042: All right, let's see your question for six points...

During the game, the player can help the natives of this location in the creation of a statue of Laguna Loire:

A.) Fisherman's Horizon
B.) Winhill
C.) Shumi Village

funnyboy4004: You know, I have actually done this sidequest thing. It's C.) Shumi Village.
Agent0042: And you're correct --- and you're our new champion! IDX Rider, come on out of your booth. I'm sorry, you only had 17 points, your opponent has reached 21. You've been a marvelous champion and a great player. You leave us with 25,000 gil!

funnyboy, we now begin the portion of our game known as Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One --- an opportunity for you to add as much as 210,000 gil onto your 25,000 gil you won for winning your match. And the best part is, we're not touching those previous winnings, those are yours, no matter.

So here we go, up to six questions with escalating gil values, all in the same category. And that category this time is Laguna, Kiros and Ward.

So here we go, the first true/false statement, for 1 point and 10,000 gil:

Laguna, Kiros and Ward originally serve as soldiers in the Estharian Army.

IDX
03-13-2007, 03:40 AM
Congrats to funnyboy4004 for winning! I'm not sure about if signing up again is possible for previous players, but this is fun and I'd definitely like to play again!

Agent0042
03-13-2007, 03:48 AM
We haven't had a lot of players yet, but if it's at all workable in the future, I'd definitely consider allowing past players to return sometime.

P.S.: Summary of this match will go up sometime tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that.

funnyboy4004
03-13-2007, 12:26 PM
that would be false. Not sure if i post here or PM you?

Agent0042
03-13-2007, 06:36 PM
This is all you and me, so everything's open right now. I don't see what the point of sending it by PM would be.

Anyway, that's correct. It's the Galbadian Army. So now, would you like continue and risk that 10000 gil for a chance at an additional 20000 on another True/False from the same category?

funnyboy4004
03-14-2007, 12:43 AM
Yes please.

Agent0042
03-14-2007, 03:19 AM
All right, trying for two points and an additional 20,000 gil, true/false...

Laguna, Kiros and Ward can combine their limit breaks for a special attack.

IDX Rider: That would be C.) By car].
Agent0042: And you're correct, and you have four points. ... funnyboy, the game begins with this category --- The Galbadia Missile Base Mission. How many points from 1-11 would you like to play for in that category?
funnyboy4004: Hmm, I'll take ten.
Agent0042: Bold move, trying for ten points in the category of The Galbadia Missile Base Mission. Let's take a look:

A.) "To go on ahead"
B.) "That they'll go on ahead"
C.) "Stand by for further orders."

funnyboy4004: I'm really not too sure on this one. I'll go with A.) "To go on ahead."

IDX Rider: I must say, those are some pretty sweet pics. I'm going with C.), that's from the attempted assassination of Edea where Squall is driving the car.
Agent0042: It is indeed, bringing you up to 11 points! ... funnyboy4004, the category this time is [b}FMV Sequences[/b]. How many points on this one?
funnyboy4004: Not too sure on this category, only five this time.
Agent0042: All right, only five points in the category of FMVs...

Which of the following is not a description of an actual FMV within the game?

B.) Citizens flee Esthar in a panic
C.) Two monsters called Iguions attack Rinoa

funnyboy4004: That would be B.) Citizens flee Esthar in a panic.
Agent0042: That's correct, that never happened. You now have fifteen points! ... This is the end of the second round. I now give both contestants an opportunity to stop the game. Would either of you like to stop the game? ... We'll continue. IDX Rider, you have 11 points. The category is Villages and Cities.

During the game, the player can assist the natives of this location in the creation of a statue of Laguna Loire:

A.) Fisherman's Horizon
B.) Winhill
C.) Shumi Village

funnyboy4004: You know, I have actually done this sidequest thing. It's C.) Shumi Village.
Agent0042: You're correct, and you're our new champion!

funnyboy4004
03-14-2007, 02:38 PM
That would be false.

Agent0042
03-14-2007, 06:41 PM
Oh yeah, definitely false. All right, try again for a chance at an additional 30,000 gil?

funnyboy4004
03-14-2007, 07:58 PM
Yep

Agent0042
03-14-2007, 11:15 PM
All right, continuing for a shot at another 30000 gil...

True/false:

The very first thing you "hear" Ward say in the first flashback is:

"Hey, aren't we here to fight a war? You know, against the almighty Timber army?"

funnyboy4004
03-15-2007, 03:13 AM
true i believe.

Agent0042
03-15-2007, 05:16 AM
It is true, you're now up to 60,000 gil. Risk that on another for an additional 40,000 gil?

funnyboy4004
03-15-2007, 09:08 PM
yes please.

1 question. Whats the highest gil anyone has ever gotten?

Agent0042
03-15-2007, 10:06 PM
Results are posted in the first post in the thread. If you were to get this and stop, you would do the best that anyone has done so far on Perfect FFVIII Twenty One. Of course, you could still choose to keep going and win even more (or lose it all.)

All right, true/false:

The play that Laguna, Kiros and Ward take part in is called "The Dragon's Revenge."

funnyboy4004
03-16-2007, 02:29 AM
I remember this scene but i do not remember the play name. So im going to be guessing here.

Im going to say True

Agent0042
03-16-2007, 04:05 AM
"The Dragon's Revenge?" Nah, sorry, but I made that one up, completely. It was "Death of a Sorceress."

Well, you still have your 25000 gil from your match and you're still the current champion. I'll see about lining up your next opponent and hopefully we'll be moving again shortly.

Agent0042
03-16-2007, 05:49 PM
Another match begins. This time, it's our champion funnyboy4004 up against Alexandria12. A fan of this game's moogles, he joined us in the Shrine in November and lives in the United States in New Jersey. He's 23 and enjoys hobbies such as video games (of course), going to concerts and watching football.

Agent0042: Second category --- Fujin and Raijin. How many points 1-11 in this category?
funnyboy: Crazy for doing this, but I think I'm going to go for the full eleven points.
Agent0042: Wow, 11 points. That would bring you to 21. Let's see your eleven point question on the category of Fujin and Raijin:

Which two of the following are actual attacks used by Fujin or Raijin in the battle at the hotel in Balamb:

A.) Fujin Special
B.) Malestrom
C.) Sai
D.) Demon Slice
E.) Raijin Special

funnyboy4004: I'm pretty sure the answers are C. Sai (Fujin's special attack basically) and E. Raijin Special
Agent0042: And you're correct, you just picked up an additional 50000 gil! funnyboy4004 remains champion, with a two-question 21. funnyboy, it's time once again for Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One. The category this time is Weapons. For one point and 10000 gil, true/false:

In order to obtain a weapon, it is not necessary to have the Weapons Monthly magazine that lists it, all you need are the proper gil and items.

(P.S.: As is standard, full results will be posted later on --- sometime early tomorrow, definitely.)

funnyboy4004
03-17-2007, 01:15 PM
that is true. You do not need the weapons monthly. I get lion heart on first disk like everytime i play.

Agent0042
03-17-2007, 08:16 PM
Correct

Try again for 2 points and 20000 gil?

(Full results will be up later this evening --- sorry for the small delay on this.)

funnyboy4004

Agent0042
03-18-2007, 12:29 AM
buster blade --- read the rules.

Okay, trying for an additional two points and 20000 gil, true/false:

One of Quistis's weapons is the Flaying Tail.

funnyboy4004
03-18-2007, 04:57 AM
I believe that is False. There is a slaying tail.. Not flaying.

squall3587
03-18-2007, 05:24 AM

Agent0042
03-18-2007, 10:08 PM
squall3587 --- no. (sigh) Why can't people read the rules?

Anyways...

Correct

Just as you said, it's the Slaying Tail, not the Flaying Tail. Try another for 3 points and 30,000 gil?

Oh, and this is overdue, the results of the previous match.

Agent0042: Last time on Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One, funnyboy4004 became our new champion, winning 25,000 gil. He now takes on Alexandria12 in his quest to win the most gil ever awarded on a Final Fantasy Shrine game show. So let's play Twenty One!

We'll start with funnyboy. You're playing this game for 50,000 gil. We begin with this for our first category --- Junctions. How many points from 1-11 on this?
funnyboy4004: 10, please.
Agent0042: Bold, a ten point question on the category of Junctions. Let's take a look:

Which of the following GFs comes by default with the abilities Elem-Def-Jx4 and ST-Defx4:

A.) Ifrit
B.) Alexander
C.) Cactuar
D.) None of the above

funnyboy4004: Um, I believe that would be D.) None of the above.
Agent0042: Correct! Only Doomtrain comes with both of those. You have ten points. ... Alexandria12, the first category is Junctions. How many points in this category?
Alexandria12: Oh dear. Junctioning was never my strong point. I'll take a moderate five point question.
Agent0042: All right, five points on Junctions:

What is the maximum number of magics it is possible to have junctioned to Elem-Def?

A.) 3
B.) 4
C.) 5
Alexandria12: My guess is going to be B.) 4.
Agent0042: And you're correct, for five points! ... funnyboy, the category this time is Fujin and Raijin. How many points?
funnyboy4004: Crazy for doing this, but I'm going to go for the full eleven points.
Agent0024: Wow, eleven points! That would bring you to your desired total of 21.

Which two of the following are actual attacks used by Fujin or Raijin in the battle at the hotel in Balamb:

A.) Fujin Special
B.) Malestrom
C.) Sai
D.) Demon Slice
E.) Raijin Special

Very important --- remember that on an eleven point question, there are a two correct answers and you must answer both correctly. Remember, if you're at all uncertain, you do have your second chance available, although if you use with your second chance and answer incorrectly, it's two strikes.
funnyboy4004: I'm pretty sure the answers are C.) Sai (Fujin's special attack basically) and E.) Raijin Special.
Agent0042: And you're correct --- you remain our champion, you just won additional 50,000 gil!

funnyboy4004
03-18-2007, 11:33 PM
Yes ill go for it

Agent0042
03-19-2007, 01:20 AM
All right, we'll try another for 3 points and 30,000 gil, true/false:

Energy Crystals are a required component for every characters' best weapon.

squall3587
03-19-2007, 01:36 AM
srry i forgot that you had to be a member for 3 months, stupid of me. ill wait

funnyboy4004
03-19-2007, 03:21 AM
I believe that is false. Im pretty positive at least Irvine's weapon doesn't need any energy crystals. Not sure on the others..

Agent0042
03-19-2007, 05:13 AM
You're correct. It is false. Try another question for an additional 4 points and 40,000 gil?

funnyboy4004
03-19-2007, 08:01 PM
yes but i have a question.

If there are people who are waiting to challange i won't because i don't want to control the game, i want others to play to.

But if not then Yes i guess ill go for it.

Agent0042
03-20-2007, 12:40 AM
Well, we do have Lukey ready to try for another match, so since you said to go on ahead with it, we will. Congrats, you claimed 60000 gil, and don't worry, if you win this next match, you'll once again have another shot at FFVIII Twenty One.

But now, we welcome back Lukey. Lukey played the very first match and it ended in a tie. He was promised a chance to return and so now he gets that shot. Let the game begin!

Agent0042
03-23-2007, 08:53 PM
All right, this is the end of the second round, the point where both of our players get a chance to stop the game. If either of you would like to stop, post it here, the game ends immediately and whoever has more points wins. To continue, just send me a PM, alternatively I will continue the game automatically if I haven't heard from both of you by the time I first login tomorrow.

Agent0042
04-01-2007, 07:45 PM
Well, after another coin-toss situation, funnyboy4004 is still our champion. I'll post the full results soon, but until then, it's time once again for Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One. Category this time is Zell Dincht. For one point and 10000 gil, true/false:

When Duel-Auto is turned on for Zell's limit, the player has no control whatsoever over what moves are selected.

funnyboy4004
04-01-2007, 09:16 PM
i believe that is true.

Agent0042
04-02-2007, 04:24 AM
Correct

No control whatsoever when you have that on, so you're left entirely to luck, which probably won't get you the best results. Try another for 2 points, 20000 gil?

funnyboy4004
04-02-2007, 07:54 PM
sure

may i ask what my current gil status is?

Agent0042
04-03-2007, 03:32 AM
Sure! You're at 235,000 gil currently. That's 175,000 from your match victories so far, plus 60,000 that was earned in the Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One. Oh, and just as a reminder, I keep the results in the first post of the thread, so you can check at any time for the updated tally.

Technically 245,000 if you count the 10,000 you just won, but you risked and chose to play this next true/false. For two points, and an additional 20000 gil in Perfect Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One:

Zell's student ID number is odd.

funnyboy4004
04-03-2007, 08:34 PM
to be honest i have no clue... but im going to say

true

Agent0042
04-03-2007, 09:04 PM
Wrong

No, sorry, it is in fact even. Zell uses this as his excuse for being in the quad during the Garden invasion --- Squall had ordered those with even student ID numbers to report there.

Well, you're still our champion. I'll try to get the results of the previous match posted within the next couple days and we'll see about getting you another opponent, though there doesn't seem to be much in the way of takers at the moment.

Agent0042
04-05-2007, 10:35 PM
Here's the summary for that last match:

Agent0042: Last time on Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One, funnyboy4004 won his second match and additional 50,000 gil. He now faces off against Lukey, returning to the game after having lost a tie-breaker early on. Let's play Final Fantasy VIII Twenty One! We begin with funnyboy4004. All right, first-round category --- The CC Group. How many points from 1-11 in this category?
funnyboy4004: Hmmm.. Shouldn't be to hard, I'll go for a 10 again.
Agent0042: You do like to play it risky. It's a move that's certainly paid off to date. All right, here is your ten-point question on The CC Group, second-hardest in this category:

In addition to being identified by card suit names such as "Heart" and "Diamond," the CC group members have also given themselves titles of royalty. Which of the following is not a correct matchup of suit with royalty title?

A.) Card Prince Spade
B.) Card Prince Club
C.) Card Princess Diamond
D.) None of the above

funnyboy4004: Pretty sure it's D.) Spade is a male, Club is a male, and Diamond 2 females. So prince, prince, princess.
Agent0042: No, I'm sorry, the correct answer B.) Card Prince Club. Club's title is actually "Knight." Well, it's still early in the game. That's one strike. ... Lukey, the category is The CC Group. How many points in this category?
Lukey: Nine, please.
Agent0042: All right, for nine points...

Which of the following members of the CC Group is actually a duo of two:

A.) Card Magician Joker
B.) Card Prince Spade
C.) Card Queen Heart
D.) Card Princess Diamond

Lukey: I'm pretty sure it's Diamond. It's two girls, and Card Queen Heart is Quistis (or was Xu Heart?). D. Card Princess(es) Diamond
Agent0042: Correct! Oh, and yeah, Xu was Heart. Quistis was the "king." Either way, you have nine points. ... funnyboy4004, you don't have any points. You also have one strike. The category for the second round is The Balamb Garden Invasion. How many points in this category?
funnyboy4004: 10 again, please.
Agent0042: All right, ten points on the category of The Balamb Garden Invasion:

When Squall comments that "When Zell gets here, we'll divide into teams," what excuse does Selphie give for Zell not being there?

A.) "He's talking with Headmaster Cid, he'll be here shortly."
B.) "I think he's taking a nap. Yeah, he said he hasn't slept at all lately."
C.) "He's in the cafeteria. Yeah, he said he was starving."
D.) None of the above

funnyboy4004: I believe that's B.
Agent0042: It is B., and you have ten points! ... Lukey, it's the second round and the category is The Balamb Garden Invasion. How many points on this?
Lukey: I'll go all out for 11.
Agent0042: Going for maximum points. That would bring you to the hefty total of 20, a very good score. Here we go...

Squall gives out orders / statements at the beginning based on the choices you make. Which of the following are not correct matches of a choice with the order / statement:

A.) Prepare our defense ---> "The enemy will probably come aboard. We must concentrate our forces at the front gate and the quad. If your Student ID number is even, report to the quad. If it's odd, report to the front gate."
B.) My feelings on this ---> "As you may know, Seifer is with them. I plan to settle everything, once and for all, with this battle."
C.) The Garden's course ---> "Evade as long as possible. Try to throw them off-course."
D.) What to do with the hot dogs ---> "Our provisions must not fall to the enemy. Hide the hot dogs, but safety first."
E.) Take care of the junior classmen ---> "Those who have Student ID numbers ending with an 8, take care of the junior classmen."

Lukey: Shit, tough question. I'll start with C, because I reckon Squall says the Garden's course is not to evade but to go forward. The second I'm a little more confident with because it's an action I usually choose; D, what to do with the hot dogs. Squall doesn't mention safety in that one, rather tells the cafeteria ladies to hide them in a secret safe. So I'm going for C. and D..
Agent0042: Excellent choices, they get you 11 points! ... Okay, this is the second round. Would either of you like to stop the game? ... We'll continue. funnyboy4004, we've reached the third round. You have ten points and one strike. The category this time is Playable Character Quotes. How many points from 1-11 in this category?
funnyboy4004: Hmm, well. I'm gonna lay all the cards on the table and go for 11.
Agent0042: All right, going all out for 11 points, that would bring you to your desired total of 21. Here's the question, two answers please:

Which of the following were said by Quistis:

A.) "Back from your adventure, Squall?"
B.) "Get over here right now! You HAVE permission!"
C.) "Whoa! Sorry to interrupt! But it's an emergency. We got radio contact from Esthar's Presidential Palace."
D.) "But since I like you so much, I thought you should go first."
E.) "I wonder if there's anyone who'd do the same thing for me? Oh well... So where's the princess that changed the ever-cautious Squall?"

funnyboy4004: Hmm... I would say B. (the Timber mission), and hopefully E. (not sure where but i think i remember this from somewhere.)
Agent0042: Correct, for 11 points! Oh, and E.) is optional, she says this one once you're back on the ground if you took her into space. ... Lukey, the game continues with the third round. You have 20 points. The category this time is Playable Character Quotes. You only need one point, so let's get right to this...

Who says this --- "Then go talk to a wall."

A.) Squall Leonhart
B.) Selphie Tilmitt
C.) Rinoa Heartilly

Lukey: Oh geeze that's a tough one. It's very much a Selphie or Rinoa thing to say.

A. Squall, of course!

From here, there were two tie-breaker questions, but it ultimately had to be resolved once again by a coin-toss, which favored funnyboy4004.

funnyboy, I don't have another opponent for you at this time. As it is, I think it may be time to retire this game. I'm running out of questions and it does take up a lot of time. It's been a fun time, but I think the time is right to end this. And I recommend the newly revived trivia thread for more fun trivia times.
