So i have my psx out, and I wanna restart playing ff8, cos my last save file got corrupted
But it seems that my disc one freezes at the very star of teh opening cinematography on the beach
I am using PAL format and wonder if anyone else has this problem. Ive tried flipping my playstation over, bashing it on its cover, do you have any other recommendations
It goes on my computer on an emulator but I'd rather play it in the playstation
Either your disk reader is messed up and needs to be replaced or your disk is scratched.
Try it out an a newer playstation because the PSX is ooooold.

Madame, you are now two generations behind. Also, buy a PS2. $70 for a PSX is total bullshit.
PSX's cost $70??? Damn, when the PS0nes came out they were $50 brand new. I would recommend the SlimLine PS2 though. No problems with that at all.

Try smashing it with a hammer. That might work. :-P
With that aside, odds are it's your game disc. The same thing happened to me with FFVII, the game would constantly glitch up when it reached an FMV. My game had a scratch, but I was stubborn and replayed the part at least 60 times before it actually managed to work.
It's completely up to you whether or not you want to go out and buy a new copy.
You can find a ps1 for $10 on ebay! Well if you can afford it, I would reccoment a ps2 slim. Its quite cheap now than ps3 is out

Could it be possible that the disc have problems? Can you check it on a different PSOne?

I agree with buying a new system... though, my brother says he saw a PSX at an EB for 15 bucks. There's the slimline silver and the bundle that's still keeping the PS2 strong.
Also, is your copy of the game legit?

It's not a question of if the game is legit or not because it DID work before. I have realized that Sony just LOVE to put weak read heads in their video game systems because of my problems with the ps2 and hearing complaints on the ps1. Here are some things that I do to get a game working.
Firstly, don't bang the system - it's not its fault it can't read the disc! If I dirtied a page and told you to read it, it would be difficult for you too.
Check for dust and scratches. If you see none that doesn't mean that none is there - the surface is dark after all, so - on to cleaning the disc anyway!
Use room temperature water and don't be afraid to completely soak the surface of the disk. Next, take some soap on your finger and soap the entire surface of the disk gently, moving your finger in a circular motion. (This gets most of the dust and grease). Then wash off ALL the soap and dry (COMPLETELY) with a soft cloth.
Test the disc. If it doesn't work it's probably scratched. Moving on...
Wax the disc. Waxing a scratched disc fills in the gaps made by scratches on the plastic surface. If you are willing to spend some money, there are CD waxes you can purchase but if not, I've found that car wax works very well! Just get some wax on a soft cloth and gently polish the disc. Test the game again. If it doesn't work - moving on...
Since the disc can be read on a computer's CD-ROM drive, make a copy and use the backup CD. That is assuming that the ps1 has a mod chip of course!
Hopes this helps - good luck!

If you can get the right settings, honestly, emulation is a lot better than playing it on the ps (yeah, I read that you prefer playing it on PS). You can try testing the discs on the computer at least to see if it crashes there or not. If it does, it's prob the disks, if not, then I suggest going for a slimline ps2.

This thread is over five months old; the person who originally posted hasn't been on the site since the day after she started this thread. You're all trying to help someone who just didn't stick around. Who knows --- perhaps she ended up buying another system after all. I'm just gonna close this...
