About 4 and a half hours ago, which was 4 hours before the 'official' launch. Which means I've put off connecting to WiiConnect24 for 4 hours (in case I get the store I bought it off in trouble for breaking street date for me), but I'm currently updating my console, which brings me here.
So far:
Wii Sports: A lot more fun that I thought it would be, but I sprained my shoulder playing tennis. Yes, I know you can just use wrist movements, but where is the fun in that?
Wii Play: Crap, but for $10, what do you expect? The neat Table Tennis/Pong makes it worth the purchase.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: I still suck at Zelda. I MUST PERSERVERE THOUGH.
Also: people who I like, PM me their friend codes so our Miis can get jiggy with it.
Awesome
With any luck, I'll be able to get my Wii connected soon, so I'm hoping to see Lii's Mii pretty soon!

Just Z-target all the time; that way when you press A, you'll do a jump attack and do double damage anyway. And spin attack (Shake the nunchuck) whenever you can.

I picked up my Wii at about 10pm on the 6th, so I felt a bit naughty too... but I phoned ahead and they told me they didn't give a shit (gotta love that aussie laid back style). So yeah, I jumped in a picked one up... the store was very sparsely populated at the time, which really surprised me.
I picked up a few extra peripherals for starters, to make sure the princess and I both had what we needed to mess around with each other in wii-goodness, and then I hit the shelves to snag some titles.
I decided to get The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Its my first ever Zelda game, and it was hailed as the Wii's launch killer app, so fair enough I thought. I quite like it, the princess absolutely loves it, and it was definetly a good buy.
Wii Sports is just great fun. End of story. Its one of those titles that will suppliment a party nicely. But I just know that either me or the princess is going to break something as the controller flies out of our swinging limbs.
In the end I also decided to get Red Steel as well, and thus far its quite enjoyable and holds its own, which is lucky because I had no idea of its existance until I saw it on the shelf, so it was a bit of a gamble.
To top it all off, the guy at the counter threw in Wii Play for absolutely nothing... so as a free title it does just fine :-).
One thing that, alas, ruins my Wii experience ever-so-slightly is the fact that we don't have our ADSL internet connection anymore. Its bad enough we trying and maintain a network with one desktop and two laptops off a dial-up connection... but at least the option is there for us to do that regardless of how stupid it is. The Wii prerequisite of a broadband connection means we're offline for now. Maybe for Christmas I'll look into getting us both an ADSL2+ connection.
Anyway, two thumbs way up for Nintendo's Wii.

One bad side effect of playing the Wii:
I'm generally a rather unfit person, and i've spent the last two days playing hours and hours of Wii Sports (because it's more crowd friendly than Zelda, being multiplayer and all).
At the moment, I am in pain. I have muscles aching in my arms and back that I didn't even know I had.
Which is bad, because everyone has finally left me alone so I can play more Zelda (i'm halfway through the Goron Mines), and I can't bring myself to play because it freaking hurts too much to do a Shield Charge.

haha i have the same thing going on =/ also wii sports keeps telling me that there is a pause function and that i could go outside if i really wanted to. and it shows you the window and the wiimote lying ON THE TABLE. i thought that was hilarious. we were playing pretty much non stop from 7am til 12 the next day, at which point i moved houses, but there were about 12 people around at different points in the day, the living room was packed. great fun.
also had fun designing mean mii's of people we dislike because lol.

My problem isn't with sending messages at all apparently. I mean, I don't know if the Wii has to be connected to Wiiconnect24 to send and receive messages; the only problem I've noticed is it takes a while to send and receive them.
I updated the Wii to 2.0, which is apparently some type of parental control shit. But for the past day or two, I have never been able to access the Wii Shop Channel. I'd do a connection test; half the time it works, the other it fails. Then when it says I'm connected, I'd go to the Wii Shop Channel and it would either say I'm not connected to the internet, or I can't connect to the server. It got to the point where I actually said 'I'm tired of this piece of shit'. About a Nintendo product. :(

When you register an e-mail address, your Wii emails a confirmation message to them; when they reply to that message, their address is registered.

Okay so that was a weak defense.I'll try again. So far the Wii has made shit FPS titles for two reasons. The graphics are mediocre and and the controls were a pain in the ass making it hard to aim. Mainly the controls. This was the downfall of Red Steel. Even the Call of Duty series, which previously released the well-made Call of Duty 2 couldn't harnass the controls in Call of Duty 3, giving it a lower score against the other Call of Duty 3's.

I see this trend continuing because the DS also had this trouble when it came to third party game makers making games for the DS, except the Wii is way more complex, control-wise. Not saying the Wii will never make a good FPS, I just think it won't come close to the XBOX 360 or PS2.

As far as I can tell, apart from okay graphics, Call of Duty 3 doesn't fall short at all. All of the aiming is essentialy seemless and the controls for grenade tossing and all are pretty intuitive. I haven't played Red Steel yet, but it is supposed to be pretty good apart from the momentary control glitches.

For starters, comparing games from different consoles based on the numbered rank is nearly impossible; when reviewers do a numbered ranking, they're basing it off comparisons to other games on the same console, or in a similar vein. The type of FPS we have seen on the Wii literally has nothing that we can compare it to.
Also, just because there hasn't been a fantastic FPS yet has nothing to do with the console. Red Steel was horribly flawed in many ways; poor graphics, broken level design, and horrible implementation of the sword fighting. Call of Duty 3 was considered inferior to Call of Duty 2 on every console where both were released, because CoD3 was designed by Treyarch, creators of CoD2:Big Red One, not the original CoD and CoD2 developers. The reviews of CoD3 marked it down because it was a port that had glitches and worse graphics than were necessary.
As anyone who has played a well implemented wii-mote pointer game can attest (the Bow in Zelda, the plunger-shooter in Rayman, or even the Duck Hunt in Wii Play), the pointer allows for a high accuracy and response rate than an analogue stick, almost on par with mouse control. All that is required is good implimentation, which will undoubtedly occur further down the line.
To prognosticate for a moment, i'd suggest that the first FPS to really pull off the control scheme on the Wii will be Metroid Prime 3, and that every FPS that comes after it will rip it off.
Also, just for the record, I don't know where you're getting this bullshit about the DS having trouble with third party developers. If you haven't noticed, the console is trouncing the PSP in sales all around the world, and you don't get that sort of success without third-party support.

Afaik the wii has two fps titles currently available for it. Your argument makes about as much sense as stating the battle arena toshinden is a pile of crap, then concluding that all beat 'em up's on the playstation must be bad.
The graphics are mediocre
Irrelevant.
the controls were a pain in the ass making it hard to aim. Mainly the controls.
Really? And is this the reason given in each and every review averaged by game reviews? Is it possible that there's some other reason they have docked the wii versions points? Hmm.
This was the downfall of Red Steel.
The downfall of Red Steel is the fact that it's not a great game. It's pretty average. It's a title rushed out the door to cash in on launch day. imo.
Even the Call of Duty series, which previously released the well-made Call of Duty 2 couldn't harnass the controls in Call of Duty 3, giving it a lower score against the other Call of Duty 3's.
Alright. Let's have a look on game reviews.
Call of Duty 3 is a great showcase for the Wii’s unique control scheme.
They don't seem to mind the controls over there. Apparently it was marked less because of inferior sound (^_~) and gameplay (presumably wii's lack of multiplayer)
After spending a short amount of time with the controls, I have come to the conclusion that this is in fact the best first-person shooter control scheme currently available on the console.
Pros :
Cool control scheme
It brings a new motion-controlled mechanic to the game, and it works brilliantly.
beyond proving that the Wii's controls can handle first person shooters, it doesn't hold up as anything but yet another middling World War II shooter.
Not the controls, apparently. Just the game.
the game controls extremely well on the Wii controller. In fact, the first-person controls are the best yet on the system.
Once I found the inversion controls (you have to back out to the root of the game to set this particular option) I was suddenly having a whole different experience. I popped four Nazi helmets off of their perch without a moments hesitation. After I had completed the first mission, I was almost as accurate as I was with the 360 or PS3 control scheme. This is a testament to the organic nature of the Wii controls.
The Good: Once you learn them, the basic controls work well
A lot of the reviewers seemed to find there was a high learning curve, but that they were actually extremely intuitive when you became accustomed to them. Certainly, pointing to gamerankings, telling us the average rating is lower and saying it must mean the control scheme is bad for these 2 games and will be for every other wii fps is silly to say the least. If anything the Wii version (of CoD 3) seemed to lose marks more for lack of multiplayer and comparatively poor graphics than because of bad controls. And even the reviewers who made negative points about the wii controls usually balanced this with some positive remarks as well. It seems unlikely that, considering the basic advantages most people seem to see in the wiimote system, these will not be ironed out in many future titles.
But it's all up in the air right now. It is far too early to say the wii will definitely have poor FPS's when, a) they have shown some promise so far despite the bad and b) the control system is so different and it may take devlopers an amount of time to come up with the optimum control scheme.
I see this trend continuing because the DS also had this trouble when it came to third party game makers making games for the DS, except the Wii is way more complex, control-wise.
To develop for? Wouldn't mind some proof. Even if this is so, PS3 and XBox360 titles cost a lot more to develop. The Wii is in an unusual position.
Not saying the Wii will never make a good FPS, I just think it won't come close to the XBOX 360 or PS2.
I don't know. I don't think there's much to go on just yet.

For starters, comparing games from different consoles based on the numbered rank is nearly impossible;
It's very possible to a certain extent. Fail.
Your comment on Red steel helped saved me time on countering swedish Fish's comment. Another critical flaw people said about this game was it's poor controls. I never compared Cod 2 to CoD 3
Notice i said third party game makers. moving on
To prognosticate for a moment, i'd suggest that the first FPS to really pull off the control scheme on the Wii will be Metroid Prime 3, and that every FPS that comes after it will rip it off.
agreed.
Also, just for the record, I don't know where you're getting this bullshit about the DS having trouble with third party developers. If you haven't noticed, the console is trouncing the PSP in sales all around the world, and you don't get that sort of success without third-party support.
Again, please read before you say stupid shit. Notice i was refering to the third party game makers trying to make use of the touch screen since nintendo always focus's on creativity rather than graphics, thus me saying "except the Wii is way more complex, control-wise" at the end of the sentence. The DS encouraged games to use it's touch screen and most of the games that tried failed. The difference between the DS and and the Wii is that you are forced to use the Wii remote and you are not forced to use the touch screen. Most of the DS's best games made little use of the touch screen.
EDIT: I will deal with one arguement at a time. I will comeback to yours later if i feel up to it, udo

It's very possible to a certain extent. Fail.
If you're an idiot who trusts other people to make their decisions for them, sure. I'm willing to bet that if you've even played a FPS on the Wii, you probably haven't taken the time to get to know it as well as reviewers do.

Even the Call of Duty series, which previously released the well-made Call of Duty 2 couldn't harnass the controls in Call of Duty 3, giving it a lower score against the other Call of Duty 3's.
Don't contradict yourself. Your fanboyism idiocy is showing. Also, udo pointed out the reasons why CoD3 got a lower score on the Wii (graphics and lack of multiplayer).
Notice i said third party game makers. moving on
Rayman Raving Rabbids is made by Ubisoft (a, shock-horror, third party developer). If they had Michael Ancel consulting on Red Steel, it probably would have been a better game.
agreed.
If you agree with me on this, then why did you state this (which is, by the way, the only reason people are arguing with you?):
Not saying the Wii will never make a good FPS, I just think it won't come close to the XBOX 360 or PS2.
It seems ridiculous to even compare these three consoles, considering that none of them have a top class console FPS.

I'm interested to know what you consider the DS' best games, if you make a statement like this. Just off the top of my head, top-class DS games that make extensive use of the touch screen are Super Mario 64 DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Nintendogs, Tetris DS, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, Cooking Mama, Brain Age, WarioWare Touch... the list goes on. Even games that don't make extensive use of the touch screen in actual game play (like New. Super Mario Bros) have multiplayer mini-games that exclusively use the touch screen. And games that don't use the touch screen for a control use it for other reasons: for example, in Mario Kart DS, the mini-map on the touch screen is essential to gameplay.
In fact, i'm struggling to think of any decent DS game that doesn't make use of the touch screen or dual screen in some innovative way.

You really are a dumbfuck. Do you even know the definition of fanboy? Again idiot, i merely stated Cod 2 was well-made I didn't compare it to anything. Just because i mentioned Cod 3 in the same sentence as CoD 2 does not mean they are compared. Moving on.

I already stated that Wii will probably come out with a good FPS. Just because people try to copy metroid 3 doesn't mean it will turn out well. For example many games have tried to rip GTA off and have failed.
It seems ridiculous to even compare these three consoles, considering that none of them have a top class console FPS.

Ok first off i said third party games. Second you don't explain how you thought the game well incorporated the touch screen into the actual gameplay. Mini games dont count, sorry.

FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL.
The reason I didn't respond earlier is because I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you were going to respond with even more bullshit. I would be wasting my time with you, because you're just some guy in the world who likes to tell himself crap like that over and over again, and hopes it will become true. You don't see the facts that other people present right in front of your face, so you just say 'oh this point sucks. FAIL. oh that point is wrong. FAIL.' Here's something for you. You fail. How about that? You fail at life, you fail at everything.
Now you see how utterly retarded it is to use the LOL YOU FAIL excuse to cower away from points that are so clearly more factual than yours.

Also, it's kind of cute how you consider PS3 and 360 to be the pinnacle of FPS goodness. ;B i would say wii developers are setting their sights pretty low if they only aim to outdo PS3/360 FPS games. =)
Still waiting for Van Finel to pull the powder that was his dignity out from under Duo's post and attempt a comeback.

Also, chewey, do you want your name changed to goron, Goron, or GORON?
Edit: Can someone explain to Van Finel that Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center aren't first party games, and for him to tell me all these 'awesome' DS games that don't use the touch screen?
Edit 2: I could just change his ignore list. That would be more fun.

Mingle feature is something you choose when making/editing a Mii. It's on the same screen as name and favorite color and stuff.
Mii Plaza is where you see your Miis. In the upper right, there's a button to go to Mii Parade.
Mii Parade, assuming you have at least one Mii set to mingle and the travel settings there set to "Travel", and assuming you have a friend set up the same way and registered, will then, have Miis set to mingle from your friend's system to visit yours.
So it's a way to see what other people are making, and then you can drag those Miis and copy them to your system, if you like them. It's a really neat idea, and I wish it didn't require registering, cause that kinda ruins it. Still, I'd like to have it work for my friends at least.
