I was on www.ffshrine the other day when I came upon this interview. The last question of it could ruin the game for some fans (like me) so read at own risk.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nemian: Why hello Mr. Interviewer

THE ODA: y0 y0 Nemi-o.

THE ODA: Whadda' ya' say we have a little questions, and then tea and crumpets?

THE ODA: Sound good to you?

Nemian: Oh, simply scrumptious

THE ODA: Great! Allright...

THE ODA: Straight from the FFOZ Community, questions that they wanted to hear answered!

Nemian: Yay, my heart races with anticipation

THE ODA: I'm sure it does, I'm sure it does.

THE ODA: Alright, My first question from the people of FFOZ....

THE ODA: "Can you give us an idea of the layout of the world?"

THE ODAo: What kinds of things can you tell us about the world of Final Fantasy XI?

Nemian: Hmm, well, it's a world filled with a lot of water. The land is comprised of 2 large continents, and many smaller islands

THE ODA: Are they easy to navigate through? Or does it take a while to walk from place to place?

Nemian: The largest continent island is home to Bastok in the south and Sandoria in the north. Windurst is on the 2nd largest island.

THE ODA: Are the towns and areas REALLY big with a lot of places to explore?

Nemian: It takes a while to go anywhere on foot. A good 15 minutes across some zones

THE ODA: And are the towns huge, like they show in the trailers?

Nemian: They are big, but I wouldn't call them huge

THE ODA: Alright, and the next question...

THE ODA: Can you change Kingdoms at anytime? Are you able to switch like 'Ships' in PSO?

Nemian: To my knowledge, you cannot switch Kingdoms, but you can visit the others anytime you wish. There is no 'ship'-like system in place. But the Beta only has 1 server, so that could change.

THE ODA: Alright, now on to some questions about actual gameplay.

THE ODA: It was mentioned that stats increase randomly when your character levels, does this mean you have no control over your development in this area and have to rely on luck?

Nemian: Yup, that's the way it works. In games like Everquest every character ended up the same as people played to make the best character. Can't do that in FFXI.

THE ODA: Do you personally think that's a good feature, or is it harmful to gameplay?

Nemian: I like it, think it's good.

THE ODA : Have you had the opportunity to really test the alliance feature? What is it like? Does it warp the other 6 (or 12) to where you are, or do they have to hike their way there?

Nemian: I haven't been in an alliance yet, but I do know that you got to walk everywhere, unless you've got a Chocobo or something.

THE ODA: In that case, have you ever tried Quests? What are they like? And can you explain a typical quest?

Nemian: Well, Ive done a few quests, and they mostly seem to be fetch an item type quests. Though there are many chain quests (Do QuestA to get QuestB).

THE ODA: What kind of tasks must you complete to get that item? And what are the rewards?

Nemian: Well, sometimes it's kill a monster for the loot, but occasionally you just need to find the right spot to complete the quest. It's usually money or class equipment.

THE ODA: Speaking of Class Equipment...Do classes have level requirements or weapon requirements?

Nemian: Yes they do. My current sword for example can only be used by a fighter or red mage who has reached Lv6. The advanced classes are also restricted by level requirements.

THE ODA: Do the requirements seem fair to you, or are they hard to reach?

Nemian: somewhat fair. They could use a little balancing, but it's not bad.

THE ODA: Speaking of weapons and such...

THE ODA: How often does the game save? Any nasty "losing equipment/stats due to sudden disconnects"?

Nemian: Wouldn't know how often it saves, that's determined by Square. But I just had a nasty disconnect last night (power outage). And it saved my status right where i was standing, with everything I had.

THE ODA: Wow, that's defiantly advanced from Phantasy Star Online.

Nemian: FFXI shouldn't really be compared with PSO at all

THE ODA: Yeah, it does seem way more advanced.

THE ODA: Now, does FFXI have advanced features, like the "Loot" System?

THE ODA: How exactly does the party loot system work?

Nemian: Everything the party collects goes into a pool. Money and EXP are automatically removed and divided from the pool.

THE ODA: So no one gets to pick what they get, it's all random?

Nemian: Yup, it works out that way, usually. But if no one but you wants an item, the party as a whole can decide to give it to you

THE ODA: What about when you are defeated in battle? Does the whole party get held back or is it just you?

Nemian: Just you.

THE ODA: The party fights without you?

Nemian: they can if they want

THE ODA: And that last and final question that I think everyone really wants to know...Is there any form of PKing or even an arena made to PK in? And if so, can you explain in detail exactly how one challenges, and or goes about fighting in a PK match?

Nemian: There is no PK/PvP of any sort, not even the ability to slap each other. Square doesn't want it in their game.

THE ODA: Aww, and there you have it folks. Straight from Nemian. Straight from Final Fantasy Online Zone.

THE ODA: I think it's about time me and you, go get some crumpets....

Nemian: Nah, Ill just take a strumpet

THE ODA: Damn, I think we're out...

Despite the no PvP in the game I will still probably play it. I just hope square changes their minds.
