Innocence

As I walked down the street
A young boy said hello to me
He skipped merrily down the block
And got some candy at a shop

And as he ran I began to think
Who this boy will grow up to be
A great man who will benefit the world
Or a hate-causing criminal

Innocence
Defined him
He showed the greatest gift
Liveliness
Hope
Joy

Innocent
He was
If he were to die
He will have not died in vain
He will have died in love

Great child I thought
I smiled at that thought
But the next morning on the news
I learned he had been shot

What effect will that have on him
Will it have one on me
I cry to the thought of innocence
Innocence
Was that young boys fate

I really like these verses. They're really thought provoking... I hope I can read more of your pieces in the future.
