I was wondering, for all you anime-viewers/music-savvy people out there, can any of you suggest an anime series that has a good techno soundtrack? (I like any sub-genre of techno, but I'm partial to DnB ;-) )
P.S.- I wasn't sure if this should have gone in the Anime or Music forum, so I stuck to this one since anime is the sub-theme of this topic.

Techno itself is a sub genre of electronic dance music. Not everything electronic is techno OK :(
First off, which have you heard that you like? I'm not suggesting anything only to be told "Well I have that already." Happens too damn much. Spit out the details.

I'm going to move this to anime but leave a redirect, so people will still see it. I think you'll get better answers that way.

Well, thanks for clearing that up, I'll make sure to get my facts a bit straighter than I thought I had them. Well, in that case, I'm into Techno *and* DnB, and as for sub genres of Techno, I can't say I'm too picky. As for what I've heard that I've liked, I would say the Samurai Champloo Soundtrack would be my favorite, although I also liked the "Tactics" song from the Trinity Blood Soundtrack, so as for songs I don't have, there's a pretty wide list to look through and recommend. If you want anymore details, feel free to ask, I'm a bit on the vague side by nature... :eggsweat:
EDIT: Thanks for the help Ndi, I hope you're right! ^^
wasn't samurai champloo going for some urban sounds? (the only thing i heard was the intro so...)
the outro is nice though. if the whole album has that type of feel to it i just generalize as electronica cause to me, techno is specific enough to know what NOT to call techno. when i hear the word techno, i think of things like sandstorm by Darude. but when i hear the word electronica, it could be very eclectic and open and just pretty much awesome. even bjork can be thought of as electronica imo. especially when her songs get remixed by dj's and stuff. (which happens often)
you got any other examples so i know what you mean? it could turn out you just want trance. O_o

Hmm, well, I also have the Trigun (The 1st Donut) Soundtrack and the Bebop (TANK: The Hits, I believe is it's title) Soundtrack, so you can base your suggestions on whatever electronica tracks may exist on those if you wish. I'm gonna be honest here, I can't say I follow the whole Electronica sub genre divisions, so if anyone wants to clear that up for me, I'd appreciate it, I'm in midst of a revelation of sorts. (Personally, I thought Techno was the main genre, since people I know mostly refer to it in that manner) However, any Electronica suggestions are ok by me, I just *prefer* DnB.
P.S.- I'll add that I listen to Basement Jaxx, Mark Farina, Dieselboy, among others in that area, in case that helps anyone more music-savvy than me.

Mark Farina and Basement Jaxx are both more House influenced, especially Farina wich is pretty much pure House(even tho he does some trip hop and dub sideprojects like some of his Mushroom sets etc)
both of'm are great tho and if you can, try and get a hold on Mark Farina's 30th birthday set, its probably one of the greatest and most fun House sets i've ever heard(if you dont find it pm me, i'l upload it)
ot:
the opening of Texchnolyze has a Techno track, Naruto and Bleach have some small D&B themes for the fights, all of it is real cheesy stuff if you ask me
dont think there is much animé using the kind of techno/d&b you'd want and if they use it itl be one track and thats it i guess
Bebop has a real cool D&B tune tho called "The Real Man" wich i guess hearing from the live bass in the background is Yokko Kanno's take on "Squarepusher (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squarepusher)'s Style D&B"
you can get it here
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1955/5267 if ya dont have it yet
and then there's this cool amv from Koji Morimoto for Ken Ishii's "EXTRA"

THATS Techno

its not completely accurate but most of the guidelines are pretty much spot on and fun to read
damng django. i'm hella glad you're here man. i myself only have a general basic knowledge. that link is fantastic. i think i can actually poinpoint what i really truly love the most, and that way, i can be more precise in my searches for new music. ;_;... your awesome man. thanks a lot!
btw, who made that guide. i found a mistake in the wording of one of his explenations in the "new wave" category. here let me list it.
"It's no wonder that the music 20 years ago still sounds way more interesting than it does today."
i think what he means to say is "It's no wonder that the music 20 years ago still sounds way more interesting than [the music of] today."
i love the second track of new wave. i still can't thank you enough django. this is gonna help me big time in narrowing down what it is i truly love. i always said trance but it could turn out i've outgrown it now and i like something else instead.
thank you thank you thank you >.<
EDIT: holy shit, this whole time it turns out i was listening to "synthtron". >.< i fucking love playgirl by ladytron. i got this song from a CD in the "revolution" magazine i got free copies of way back in 1999. (revolution magazine was barely coming out then and they were offering like 1 or 2 free copies of their new mag. i got them and they came with free music cd's. some i liked, some i hated, (they were too 70's for my tastes). but one i really loved was "Naan Commercial Hits" which had this song in it among others. man i LOVE how i'm finally understanding the true names and origins of what i've been listening to all this time. i wonder what else it turns out i liked but never knew about. lol this is great. ^^
EDIT #2: out of curiosity, i decided to research that old magazine and found this out.
Revolution Magazine / labels (R)
Profile: Now defunct electronic music magazine.Ran from 1999 to 2001.Free CD with each issue
wow. that sucks. i only got 2 issues and 4 cd's from them. i shoulda subscribed. >.<
EDIT #3: after another 30 mins or so still in the HOUSE category, i'm really surprised to find jpop in here, but not only that, but i think they're using songs from slayers. ^^ hahaha. this is awesome. 3 of them are anime for sure if not slayers lol. maybe that's why i love jpop too, it has house origins. and i've been listening to house ever since power 106 (rap/hip-hop station in southern california) has been playing house way back in 94/95. they don't play house no more but i guess it was enough to influence me. :D

Ghost in the Shell has some good techno music, in my opinion.

Thanks for all this info, especially the guide into electronic music, which has definitely helped me get my mind straighter about Electronica in general. ^^ And I suppose you're right about the anime, although I guess I could assume some of the tracks would sound cooler in the show rather than standing alone...Oh, and the Yokko Kanno song you sent was great, thanks a load for that link! And although the amv you sent was a bit...scary/creepy as heck, it sounded great, and I suppose that got the definition of techno through pretty well. I'm glad you dropped into this topic and saved me from a little too much musical ignorance! >.<;
P.S.- Thanks for the blogspot link, I'm hooked on that site now! ^^;
thinginthetub: I hear it has interesting music, but I rarely see the show (I'm not a big fan of Ghost in the Shell), so if you could suggest any particular song for me to check out, I'd appreciate it and download it ASAP. =D
