Hey guys.

I am doing my first play through of Final Fantasy II when I ran into a problem.

I cannot beat the last battle against the Emperor.

I know a lot of people on here are FF Classic veterans and have knowledge as to how to beat him.
Any good tactics?

Also, are there any weapons I should go back and get?
If so...where?
Keep in mind I am playing the Dawn of Souls for GBA. So some names of weapons and such have been changed.

Thanks in advance for any positive feedback.

Never got that far in FFII but from what I've heard the Blood Sword does a ludicrous amount of damage and generally makes the final boss very easy. I suggest you look into picking one up.

Yeah that was my initial plan.

The only problem is that in Dawn of Souls there is only one Blood Sword. (In original NES there were two.)
The only way I could have obtained the Blood Sword is by talking to a character before I entered a dungeon about halfway through the game.

So I am afriad it is too late for that.

My advice go back to the moon, i think thats the place where all the floors are crystal or ice and those jellies are there, the pink ones.. theres a set of stairs and a very small room at the bottom right down there, inside of an open doorway, kind of isolated and purposless it would seem..

run around in that room for a very long time and kill the pink jellies over and over again. They drop the best armor in the game. Admantite armor that can be equipped by most if not all of your characters and it will help u knock the bejeezes outta the last boss.. also make sure you have high levels. He's not like future FF end bosses where their all wussies, this guy will give you a run if your not high level. i'd say at least like level 60 if I remember correctly.. I was like 12 and i'm 29 now so yea, a lil hazy..lol.. but the armor.. so awsome..

He also uses lighting and ultima alot, he's really no pushover so be ready and have curing always ready to go and stay at max hp always, use your best items if you need to it is after all the last boss.. I believe you may be able to reflect some of the things he does to you as well, I forget how the system works now for abilities in that one. also I'm not sure if it works in ff2 but casting reflect on yourself then casting offensive spells on yourself increases the damage of the spells..remember.. cure, cure, cure, never stop curing.
I must of beat that game a dozen times lol.. Loved it.. best storyline ever easily..

p.s look for online walkthroughs.. it helps sometimes ^^.. just google "final fantasy 2 walkthrough" I'm sure there are still some around..

Since you don't have the Blood Sword, evasion is your most important stat. Wear light armor (The Genji equipment will cripple you), and cast blink on your party and berserk on your main attacker.

Here's a better plan, first. Level up all your defensive magic and Blink, Shell, Safe, what ever it's called in the game. Also make sure Aura, holy and Ultima are high leveled too.

Start by casting blink and then shell, and then safe. Blink will keep the bastard from hitting you and sucking up all your HP, and in case he does, you have safe to lower the damage. Shell is there to weaken his magic attacks. (Don't use reflect because you'll need it to cast cure on yourself)

From there, just have two of your players cast defensive spells or heal using magic or items, while the other two cast Ultima and Holy. Also make sure you boost there magical attack with Aura. That should be all you need.

The important thing is to keep a pattern going. I had Firion cast Ultima endlessly, Maria cast Cure on everyone endlessly, Guy use ethers, cast Cure or attack, and Leon attack with Excalibur and Blood Sword. You can just follow that pattern, minus BS of course. Try not to let anybody die, if somebody does, just restart.
