ok, so apparently ffvi advance should be released sometime this winter, although an exact release date is unknown.

the game is supposedly going to feature a number of upgrades as far as graphics and sound go, but probably nothing drastic, and really nothing confirmed at this point.

what we do know is that the game will at the very least feature two new espers, which for any fan of ffvi is kind of big

so yeah i can't wait for this because i've been waiting to replay ffvi for awhile now but i dont want to do it until this release comes out. let's use this thread to speculate and post info and stuff ok!

I just hope they bother to fix the myriad of bizarre/game breaking programming errors this time rounds...

Well... Personally I don't like VI so much.
I'm gonna buy III DS and V Advance.
Well... For all you fans of VI out there, Good luck and finish the game for me.( or for yourself... )

It's going to be essentially the updates and upgrades that FFIV Advance saw. Enhanced graphics and music/sound, re-worked dialogue, bestiary, maybe some new enemies and weapons, and one giant extra dungeon.

Information on the new additions to the game:

*SPOILERS*

The decision to allow players to use General Leo and Gestahl is...interesting. I thought Square was pretty anti-'randomly bringing characters back from the dead'.

EDIT: If those links don't work, just go to the main site and click on the GBA tab.

I try clicking the links, but nothing happens.

I'm both upset and relieved that FFVI Advance isn't coming out until Feburary 7th. I still have FFXII, FFV Advance, and FFIII DS to complete. But I want FFVI Advance now.

Yeah, the sites being shitty. I originally got the links from this (http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/index.php?showtopic=10149) thread. However, it seems the jury is still out on whether this information was just the result of a hack, so I would wait before you take it with more than a grain of salt.

EDIT: So it turned out to be a hack after all. Pretty relieved tbqh.

I'm not too happy about Leo and Gestahl, but okay why not...
I hope the rest of the new extra stuff will be better than that though, I don't think a couple of new Espers and supposedly dead characters being brought back will be enough for me (+ I think it kinda ruins the story, I hate it when a character goes for a brave sacrifice, everyone cries about it, "oh what a hero" etc... only to have that character revived a couple of hours later - FFIV anyone? - i don't know, it kinda ruins it... dying is an important part of a sacrifice, that's the whole point of it, isn't it)
Anyway I hope the EX dungeon will be super hard. FFVI is a GREAT game, but it's far too easy.

New espers is win, and new playable characters is win. I don't ever comment in the FF part of this site, but since FF6 is my favorite game of all time, I am excited for this. I don't even really like the other FFs.

I'm stoked about all the extra stuff they're putting in; so far the games have been pretty much direct ports with little effort. A couple of new jobs in FF5 does not a new game make.

Hopefully the extra quests and summons will make this feel more like a FF6 extended edition.

Although, I have to admit that since I got my Wii, I haven't touched FF5 advance; pressing A to fight just doesn't seem interesting any more when I could be GETTING PAST THE NEXT TEMPLE BY SWINGING MY WII-MOTE!

...i'll probably go back to it when I finish Zelda, but FF6A will be out by then.

Final Fantasy 6 is the best game of all time!
the music in FF6 is better than any of the final fantasy games

and personally i think FF7 is just a rip off of ff6
but everyone was all wow'd over the 3d graphix
big deal man
after 7 came out it was all about how the game looked
and they lost the entire story of final fantasy
1 2 3 4 5 is the REAL Final Fantasy
6 was the next step and boy did they create an all around master piece witht hat one
7 8 9 10 (cough) 10-2 11 ad 12?
ok is it me or did they just start sucking after 7?
7 has a great story line yes
but it is no 6
and i can't believe they would even tamper with 6 and make new stuff for it.
if they changed the graphix and did ANYTHING to the musci i am gonna be so friggin' ticked off. but hey it's just my opinion. i just hope there are other that feel the way i do about 6

side note, has anyone heard the version of "Dancing Mad" by the black mages? (dancing mad is the final battle with the goddesses and kefka at the end of FF6 for those that don't know)
YOU ALL MUST CHECK THAT OUT
and tell me that i'm wrong and ff6 didn't have the most incredible music!

woopie!

Actually the music does sound a little different, as the GBA does not have the means the faithfully reproduce SNES sounds - at least not in the case of FF6, which was at the time a breakthrough as far as SNES music quality is concerned. Obvious changes affect the overworld theme(s) - they had to modify the flute sound - the boss theme and others.

I've read countless hate comments on how they "butchered" FF6 music, just because it isn't 100% identical to the original music we all love, and i found all of them to be frankly ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE FF6 music, as a matter of fact I believe it's the best game music EVER, but hey that's just me. I'm halfway through to the GBA version and these MINOR music changes haven't altered the game quality one bit. You just get used to it. I mean, what the f*ck are you gonna do, rebuild your GBA so it perfectly emulates FF6 music, or - I've actually read this - play the original OST while you play? NERD! Go ahead and complain, ruin the whole experience, while you could be (re)discovering a true masterpiece on your handset.

It's already been released in Japan and well, even though i can barely speak Japanese (let alone read it) i REALLY couldn't wait.
I will definitely play the english version when it's released though, i'd like to see what they did with the translation.

I didn't think the music changes were all that bad, either. The first time I got to battle, the "weird" sounding opening "dun da dun da dun da DUN DA" was the first thing I noticed, but you definitely do get used to it.

This is my first time playing the game through in Japanese, so it's actually kinda refreshing to play it like this. Heh, I also love the fact that you can change from kanji to furigana.

Not really, the GBA sound quality is slightly inferior. Direct comparison confirms it. Not that it really matters...

The voices on the opera sound better though.
