I found it pretty good. I got stuck somewhere so ive not playes it since.
And by stuck i mean can't find the exit to a place, rather than not being able to beat a boss.
Ive played it and i think its a very nice game and of course enjoyable.

The job system is amazing and makes FF5 a great game, although the story is usually predictable and utter shite. Also Faris's accent is the worst and most annoying attempt at a dialect have ever seen. 2 bad one good, uhhh it does have a good soundtrack.
It's an awesome game imo. Very hard though, if you don't take time to level up every now and then. Took me about 60 hours to master every job for everyone (but i only managed that in the void) and I managed to beat Omega and Shinryu after that amount of time, so if you're committed, it's worth it.

I liked FFV. The job system is ace. In fact, it rather makes up for other areas in the game.

Long, fun and kewlish.
1 tip: don't re-enter the library, ull get stuck.... Wasted quite a good game...
What do you mean don't re-enter the library? When shouldn't you do that? I never got stuck and i re-entered there heaps of times :P
*spoiler* weeeell until it got sucked into the void :)

It worths the effort. The enemies here are VERY tough and it takes several hours to master all the jobs. It's a challenging game and its very satisfying when you beat X Death

I thought it was good. Story wasn't great but the gameplay was good. I found it harder than ff6 and ff4 which is good.

I love FF5. It's probably my second favourite of the series right after FF6. Sure, the story is much more simple than the other FF games, but the gameplay is extremely fun. The character interactions is also humorous and likeable. I like Faris.

Final Fantasy V...
I already finished it once...
Still play it...
Butz mastered all jobs...
And...
I got...
One thing...
To say...
I STILL LOVE THIS FRIGGIN GAME!
Sorry for the annoying message... :P
But you seriously have to play this game, the optional bosses are hard...
Well... the game is pretty hard... but it's so much fun...
Two tips for when your near the end.
Tip 1 : If you need to master jobs, go train in the Cleft of Dimension, Final Stage.
Tip 2 : If you want to train some more before going after that nasty ExDeath ( European name ), Stay in the castle right before the final stage.
Good luck on it.

Definitely worth it. I played though it back when it was only available in English via the FF5e ROM patch, which was vastly superior to the Final Fantasy Anthology rush job. But yeah, I would most certainly recommend it.

FFV is the first Final Fantasy game I played, so I have a special place in my heart for it... I think it's a good game regardless, though, and worth playing for the music and gameplay if not for the storyline and characters.

I played V recently. I'm a 100% addict, and I just about had heart failure when I realised I missed a whole bunch of items. Laugh at me, I can take it ;)
V is good. Collection isn't complete without it. (Although you CAN have a complete collection without XI, just thought I'd mention...)
FFV is definitely one of my favorites in the series. I liked the Job system a lot, as well as most of the story. And it's the source of one of my favorite FF characters, Gilgamesh, and his cool music. (The rest of the soundtrack is also beautiful.)

only the hero and gilgamesh made the game worth to play for me,
you dont need to play it.
play FFIV, its nFar more better, especially the story.

I prefer FF6,FF5 didn't seem to have an interesting plot, but hey,I've only played the beginning.
Yeah, the story doesn't get as interesting until later. Honestly, the first few hours have a pretty bad story. It's a game of patience.
But why reccomend him to play IV instead? Why not... play both? I love all three of the SNES-era games more than any others. :D

That's odd. I thought I posted in and was subscribed to this thread.
Anyway, I adore Final Fantasy V. I love the music, the characters (particularly Galuf and his granddaughter Cara/Krile) and the overall plotline. The Jobs system in this game was pretty fun. Yeah, I'm an FFV lover and I own the soundtrack. I don't think this game gets nearly the love it deserves and it's hard to keep myself from spending cash I don't have so I can buy a GBA / DS to play FFV Advance, which I read has three or four new jobs, such as Necromancer.
In the beginning, there was a Void...
When the Void was filled with four elemental spirits,
The four crystals were born and the world was created. Since then,
Hope gave the earth blessings
Courage lit the flame
Kindness made water as the essence of life
And Quest let wisdom ride upon the wind.

Forget the Anthology version. Go play the new FF5 Advance.
I support this post in every possible way. The new translation is superb, and everything runs smoothly (unlike kinda how things of FF4A got a little choppy every now and then).

My favorite 2D FF is V, the job system is the best and the music is awsome, not the best plot but the gameplay makes up for it.

FFV is actually one of my personal favorites; tragic, heartbreaking and with very courageous men, or should I say women.

I like 5 the job system adds an element of strategy to the game that previous games lacked. Not trying to say anything negative here I just recall when a friend was playing FF7 for the frst time and how he managed to get lost looking for the ancient temple is beyond me. anyway he wandered endlessly for hours fighting until he was in his high 50's and then complained the game was too easy. Well' of course it is if you are using simple brute force. With the job class system and the painfully slow leveling you can't just use brute force.

Wow, we're really into reviving the month old threads today aren't we? But back on topic, V is brilliant imo. The job system is one of the best ways of learning techniques in my opinion and wasn't as.... girl/perv oriented as FFX-2 was.

I'm enjoying it so far (have just killed Atomos). Its a good game and its pretty satisfying when a character masters one the classes. The story is ok but a tad predictable.

I'm with the 'Gameplay not the Story' FFV guys. To me, every character seemed a bit too cliche. It was like they were cardboard cut-outs. I did like Galuf, though. But I did not like Krile. Just didn't click, I suppose.
It was an okay romp, I liked the music, and I liked the environments. Never really had to train, though I did stumble on some parts. The story seemed a bit boring, but it was enough to keep me going. Fighting the Slightly Malignant Space Tree was a big let-down though. What the hell, guys. What the hell. X-Death seemed like Golbez mk.II, to me, too. And it was refreshing to have a badguy who was actually pretty bad inside, but he was a fruitcake with some of his schemes. I think they lifted him from certain men wearing thin mustaches and striped pants.
It was alright. Just cliche and sometimes it felt a bit played-out storywise. Some parts felt very, "Didn't I do this before?"-ey.

I am actually greatly enjoying this game.
Its a lot of fun, compared to the older versions. (I've played 1, 3, 4, and currently on 5)
I really like 5 best because of its Job system, its very fun, and not too complex.
The story is ok...nothing to write home about, but still good.
I really think its worth gettin.
And there are 4 new job classes that look pretty sweet too!

I'd advise against it. Square should be doing more than just churning out remakes. Looks like they need more practice making real games these days, anyway.

Get the game! Complete your FF library! Dance like Peter Garrett! Fall on the floor and laugh hysterically until you're blue in the face, or suffocating, or both!
Just get it! MwahahahaHA!!!

Personally, I think it's a good game, but I didn't get around finishing it, and I just like the FF games with more characters in them (i.e. FF6 and 7)
I honestly could not stand V (I played the anthology version which I picked up for VI, of course. And yes my copy of VI Advance is already pre-ordered and payed off :)
As some have said, the story isn't up to snuff. The focus, IMHO, is on mindless level grinding and while I adore leveling to 99/100 in the story driven entries in the series, here it feels meaningless to me. I never became attached to any of the characters because the need to limit characters in the "job" games in the series (III, V, X-2) leaves you with what are in essence 4 empty avatars (except X-2, which I do enjoy).
I'm playing III right now and abhor it for the very same reason. But as has been said here, it's a main-lineage Final Fantasy, it must be played.
And, for the record, no FF collection is complete without a tour of duty in XI :-P

If you level to anything even close to 99 in this game, you are dedicated / nuts / both. Trying to do that in this game would be madness --- there just isn't any enemy / enemy set that gives sufficient EXP for it to be at all reasonable.

Just finished this game in the last hour. It is definately worth a purchase. The job system is very well done as is the story. ExDeath can grow annoying at times but he's still a pretty good villain.

Well call me nuts, cause I did it. Just how I am. I'm doing the same in III right now. I'm at the mythril cave in Kazus, level 15, and all my characters are lvl 99 Freelancers and Warriors. I'm not leaving til they are for all the jobs from the Wind Crystal. OCD is a blessing and a curse :-P

Okay, just out of pure wild curiosity, what is your playtime on FFV to have gotten them all up to 99?
It was around 90 hours. The Skull Eaters were a great help in mastering all the jobs for everyone. I'm going to be 100% honest and admit I don't have the save file anymore (how convenient, right?). That's a long story best left for PM, if you're interested.
I wasn't trying to be boastful, just relate how strong my OCD tendencies are. Feel free to flame the noob, I don't mind.
