i think the easiest way to remix a song is with fruity loops.
don't know where you can legally buy it though,
but you can search on torrent portals.
for example mininova (http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=fruity+loops)

Hmmm...first, you need to use some audio editing software (duh). Try the freeware " Audacity "...google it or go to PC World.com (in their downloads section). Or, I recommend giving " Acoustica " a try...an earlier version of it. It's trialware (lasts 5 days), before you have to buy a license for it.
It's easy (kinda)...you basically cut and paste.
You're only limited by imagination and samples.
I'm registered at acidplanet.com...they offer free samples there to use in your remixing.
I don't know to what extent you want to remix your music to, I usually just extend the original track. For example, for "when the lights go down" by Armand van Helden, I just looped and faded in the middle portion of the track.
Simple.
You've got a Playstation2?...try out MTV Music Generator (there's one for X-Box too) to get the feel for how to do it.
That's how I started out.

You need a virtual Dj program, or a real-life turn-table.
