As far as I know, that's the only way to get a Rename Card.

And for in the Colosseum, I suggest you choose Umaro for the battles. ;) Then Cactuar shouldn't be much of a problem.

Or if Umaro isn't an option, the Sniper Sight relic ensures the character never misses with physical attacks; use that and the Genji Glove. As long as the character doesn't do any magic-casting (you can just deplete their MP beforehand using Rasp), the Cactrot will die in two turns as it only has 3 HP (you'll do 1 HP per strike). Deplete Celes's MP, then give her the Sniper Sight and Genji Glove, and make sure she isn't wearing a sword afterwards. Since you're required to have Celes, this is fairly reliable.

Best place to train: Dinosaur Forest.

It's a forest right in the north-west above The Veldt. It's filled with Tyrano, which give a lot of exp. and magic points. =) They're not so hard, only their Bite Attack is a bitch.

But a day in dinosaur forest with Shadow equipped Illumina, Offering and Exp. Egg = :D

There's one other dinosaur there, called Bracosaur, and, well, it's one of those random creatures you just can't beat easily, due to very high HP and the casting of Ultima. ^_- So watch out for that one, though.

When it's a pincer attack, I'd suggest you give someone Offering and Black Belts, and someone Dragoon Boots and Dragon Horn, and just make sure you have the better espers to summon (Palidor, Fenrir, ...

You can also try putting them to sleep, or cast Vanish on them and then use X-Zone or Doom.

Those status-magic hardly work on enemies of this level, though.

Oh, yeah, I just defeated one of the tougher dino's, that Bracosaur: that creature will automatically do Ultima. If it doesn't do Sneeze before that, there's always the handy Life3 magic. =)

Really? I usually Vanish those things before using any magic on them, that way it always hits.

Well, Odin teaches you Meteor, and Raiden, the upgraded version teaches you Quick. The espers themselves I hardly use, but what I do, is teaching everyone Meteor first, and then simply later going back to Ancient Castle to get Raiden, to learn the other spell.

And I do that simply 'cause Meteor is much more an effective spell to use than Quick. ;)

Rename Card --- there's actually a lot easier way to get Rename Card. Since you've fought the Tyrano(saur)s in the forest, then you probably have some Imp Halberds. Imp Halberds can eventually be turned into Exp. Eggs, but one of the items along the way is the Rename Card and the enemies you fight to get it generally aren't too tough. Try it out.

As for Meteor --- you can also learn it from the Crusader esper you get for beating the eight dragons. The main reason you might want to keep Odin around is that it's the only esper that gives a bonus to your characters' speed stat at level up. Gain some levels on a character with Odin equipped and you can really speed them up. But I would definitely recommend getting Raiden eventually --- Quick actually is unique to that esper and I rather like that spell.

And it's actually a much faster option for getting Meteor --- it teaches it ten times faster than Odin does.

Though, all in all, it's actually not all that much hassle to go back. It only takes like around 20 minutes following the straight path and back. Maybe 5-10 if you use Mog / Moogle Charm.

Somebody mentioned Bracoasurs --- Bracosaurs are great because they sometimes drop Economizer, which is really useful because it reduces the MP cost for any spell or esper cast by that particular character to 1. And they go down to Vanish / instant death-type spell just as easily as the Tyranos.

And they're awesome experience. I always train in the forest with the dinosaurs, gets your levels up v.quickly.

FYI-There's a big bird monster in the Phoenix Cave where Locke can steal Economizers from.
