(FFVIII,) Raised the bar for Rpgs, never before did any FF delve that deep into romance, sure there was romance in the prior ones, but never one that went that deep. I liked the whole cliche "knight going to the ends of the earth to save world and his woman". The cut scenes were never before so detailed, the made the story jump out you were'nt playing the game you were in the game. I thought the whole orphanage thing was strange at first but I liked it after thoroughly revising it.

I believe FF VII did about as good a job as FF VIII storywise. FF VIII seemed to have a more involved romantic aspect then FF VII, but FF VII caught up by having well made character interactions. I do give props for FF VIII cutscenes though as they were extremely well done.

Final Fantasy Tactics, closely followed by Final Fantasy X. Actually, these two games are the only FF titles that I thought had anything notable in terms of story.

lets hear some reasons WHYYYYYYY
for example: (SPOILERS)
i liked ffix's story the most- it returned to the "roots" of final fantasy after a quickly-staled "futuristic" series of games, and yet still remained original. Right off the bat we're introduced to both a happy-go-lucky thief who seems to be on the "dark side" (ie kidnapping a princess), and on the opposide end of the spectrum, a quiet, innocent black mage, interested in seeing an intriguing play, and a couple other characters (including a calm but curious princess and a hot-tempered knight) representing everywhere inbetween. I dont want to turn this into a review, but it was a well designed hook IMO.
i thought the plot unfolded at a good pace, and any hole that i could think of was accounted for by the end of the game. there was always enough going on to keep me interested in playing, and like i hinted before, i believe the characters were some of the best the final fantasy series had to offer, and proved to be a great asset to the story as a whole.

They're all good stories, yet they are so different i'm not even gonnna bother to compare them. So yeah, the best stories are all of them.
