I like FF10's battle system, mainly for the aeons. There really great, imo.

i most liked the ones from VII...VIII had the lame "only 4 commands" and "draw magic" mechanics, and it was annoying to get your magic on the same page in IX...X's wasn't bad either

I know I'm gonna get shot but I like.... FF8's the best, it made you have to strategize more and have a balanced team when you can only have 4 commands.

IX wins hands down.

It was basic and delightful.

a combination of 8 and X-2 would be best the heat of batlle profession changes with the whole stocking magic thing was genius because you could use 100 of your strongest magics with mp you get like 20 and you have to use osmose to get more mp tough luck if your weak 7 mp what's that gonna do for you but the four commands was a bit cheap if you use ffX-2's whole proffesion list commands you get more than enough commands

I also liked X-2's the best, but only marginally over my second choice of X based purely on the easiness of switching characters whenever you want and knowing exactly how many turns before the enemy attacks.

If I had my way though, I'd make a battle system without menus that was based entirely on the actions of the controller. This would most likely be a Wii game, and I'd have it so that when you were indicated on whose turn it is, you could block the attack by holding up your shield (nunchuck extension) and then use the actual controller for an attack. You would be able to slash any way you wanted by holding the controller like a sword and holding a button and swinging. To cast magic, you would hold the controller still, press another button, and then perform a required move to pull off the attack. The same would go for every battle command.

It might be too complicated for some, but it sounds like a lot of fun. It would give you the feel of actually being there.

Yeah I agree that would be fun but with all the random battles performing magic would get repititive and tedious.

But I see where you are coming from because the battle would take more strategic moves and taking on bosses would be fun.

I like all the battle systems from the ones I have playes, FFVII, VIII, IX and X. I can't wait to try out XIIs. I would have to say FFVIII and FFX had the best battle sytems.

Final Fantasy VII's battle system for me, it had all your basic FF commands and it made FFVII a joy to play.

FFX's battle system made the game way to easy but I kinda enjoyed it anyway.

FFVII's 'system' was majorly broken; FFX and FFVIII's doubly so. At any rate, I would go with FFX-2.

X and FVIII were terrible. X-2 was okay, but i diliked everything else about the game. FVII had a great battle system. Easy to use, and it was easy to customize your heroes

I'll go with the system of FF6, followed closely by the simplicity of FF9's

And stupidly easy to break, too.

FFVII made it too easy. I liked when you had to be a certain "class"

Like in FFI, Red Mages couldnt learn all the same spells white/black mages could

just little things like that prove (in my mind) the classic battle systems could kill FFVIIs, FFVIIIs, and FFXs.

I liked FFIX =]

FFVI and FFIX, obviously.

It's quite obviously FFX-2. It is fast, high-octane and extremely fun. Also, it rewards you for not just mindlessly bashing the x button, and requires at least a modicum of strategy. Also, the battle system is designed in such a way that having only 3 playable characters is fully justified. It was quite excellent imo, and much better then any other FF.

How could you consider 8's battle style terrible, the junction system made your strength multiply farther than any weapon or armour could do. The only downfall with 8's battle system was the limited commands.

Where do i start. I got through the whole game without using the attack button once. I used summons nonstop through the whole game. Magic was used like an item which made it no different then items. Having to use "draw" was incredibly gay and time consuming.

You've missed the point. The fact of the matter is, the ability to chain attacks is there. It's a significant leap foward from any previous FF. Also, the speed of the battle system makes the game highly enjoyable.

Any battle system that doesn't require you to train your characters is fudamentally flawed. Also, the junction system totally unbalanced the game, making it stupidly easy.

Having to use "draw" was incredibly gay and time consuming.Wow that's crazy I beat the entire first w/o ever summoning a gf, made it harder of course, and two of my main characters didn't even use the junction system. I was trying to see what would happen in Trabia garden when they just "remember" the past nothing changed so I was upset.

FFVI and FFIX with FFV

Combine those three for the perfect battle system i think, maybe FFX-2 also though

I liked the system from IX best, though I am fond of how Aeons were handled in X, and the speed of X-2's system.
