Well today was a very unfortunate day for Mr. Bunniesworth's princess. The little darling has finally caught the chicken pox and is feeling really awful. Seeing as she is an adult, its actually quite serious but she has been given the green light to head home and be in my care.
So... entertainment is the real issue. As I am about to hit the stores later today and stock up on games and DVDs that she can use to pass the time. I was wondering if "The Silent Hill Collection" was worth buying for her. It features Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4. Please bare in mind, we are both die-hard Resident Evil fans... so any similarities are a plus.

Two major issues:
- Silent Hill 1 is not included so, are their any major story elements that we will miss?
- Does it have an "easy" option? She hated Resident Evil: Code Veronica because playing on normal was just too hard.
Other then that, any thoughts are more then welcome. Its retailing for $75AUD so it seems like a good buy if she'll be able to play and enjoy it.

Silent Hill is the exact opposite of the Resident Evil series
its pretty much all about psychological scares
you dont have to start out with the 1st but it'l give more value when playing part 3
as for difficulty its allot more puzzle oriented then RE but hardly anything you'l break yr head over and there's also an easy option for both action and puzzles
q:$75AUD how much is that in American dollars or uro's?

I got this kit, and have not been disappointed (except when my larger than life friend sat on it and broke the case.)
Silent Hill 2 seems to be the best, and in that game there is an option for "no enemies." Shows how little the game is based on straight scares, no?
However, for entertainment, it's a risk. It's a love\hate thing with slow progression. Rent first, basically.

Silent Hill 4 is hard. You can't kill many of the enemies, but that also contributes to the general horror of it.
I beilive they are great games.
Silent Hill 1 is a great game too, i still play it even if its on playstation 1.
It has a great horror feeling. You wont miss anything about the general Silent Hill story, but i would say if you buy the collection, you can buy Silent Hill 1 from ebay very cheap (if u have the money of course). It is always up to you ;)

Ok well I did get it for her (and me too of course) and yeah, we just played through Silent Hill 2 for the first time and we enjoyed it. It doesn't rate better then Resident Evil for us, we just love that series, but it was great in its own right... but the story was a little confusing we thought... we're going through some plot-analysis stuff and me thinkgs we'll be running through that one again in the near future. Onto the next one :-).
Silent Hill is better when it comes to scaryness. But RE has...uh...hmmm....LEON!

Silent Hill has a better atmosphere, but Resident Evil is still better on many levels to me personally...

Silent Hill series is a lot creepier and gives yo the feeling of not knowing what will come in the next corner but the Resident Evil series focus more on action and cheap shocks. My personal favourite is Silent Hill 3 because it returns to the origin of the first Silent Hill game and is a real sequel to it compared to alternate storylines of Silent Hill 2 and 4. Gameplay is pretty much similiar to the first one and i like the fact they took away the flawed partner system( although it did return in part 4). And 3 has the best graphics in the series. It outshines Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 in many levels. If you havent own any of the games i think is worth it to get the collection.

Silent Hill 3 (well as far as I can tell from the hour or so that i've played of it anyway) is linked to the first game so it's probably worth getting hold of the first at some point if you want a little more in depth understanding of the background story once you've played through it. =)
Hope that your other half is now feeling better.
Has actually anyone played Silent Hill 1?

I played it most of the way through, liked it alot although unfortunately never got around to beating the final boss at the end. I just watched my bro do it when he played to see the ending as in the end was too lazy lol.
I definitely plan to play it all the way through one of these days.

I recommend you play the first Silent Hill before the third since its story ties with it.
Actually, I would have recommended playing it before Silent Hill 2 but what the hell.
Silent Hill 1 has nothing to "jelous" about th rest games of the series. It was and is a great game for its time.

There wasn't much the princess and I could do about the first Silent Hill. We found a very comphrensive plot-analysis for it so we "know it" but just never experienced it. So yeah, that seems fine for our purposes.

We are up to Silent Hill 3 now. Well, she's playing through it... but I'm not far so I'm enjoying seeing it all develop. The atomsphere is great, I can't fault that, and the stories are interesting (though I did actually see that whole Silent Hill 2 twist coming)... but Resident Evil just has a sentimental attachment to us; we fell in-love with the people and the place in general. Ok, well I did... the princess only got into video games after we met, but she got on the bandwagon pretty fast. But Silent Hill is great... there's no reason we can't get up to our elbow's in both... I'm sorry I didn't pick up on it sooner :-).

You do realize there are multiple endings, right?
Which Silent Hill 2 ending did you get?
Odin, are there multiple endings in all silent hill games?
I have gotten everything there is to get on the first Silent Hill game. I like this one the best out of the series, with 3 being second. You don't really need to play the first game, unless you want a better understanding as to what those siren noises mean (if you don't already know) and a better understanding of the storyling of Silent Hill 3.
I personally like Silent Hill over Resident Evil, because Silent Hill can creep my out and the multiple endings, but RE doesn't most of the time. But RE 4, in terms of action, is better than SH or the other RE IMO.

Oh yeah, we've seen the three major ones unlockable during the first playthrough. The two "funny" endings we aren't going to bother with, but there is a sixth is there not??

Yup I believe there is. The "Rebirth" I think it's called, I think you get that by collecting the four ceremonial items (available only in a replay of the game). I have a pretty good idea of what happens but won't spoil it for you. Not that i actually bothered re-playing the game to get that ending myself, but I read up on it instead as was too lazy lol =)

What do those sirens mean? And I'm going to go out on a limb and say that though we're still early in Silent Hill 3, that I can imagine where Heather relates to the first game.
Okay, here's a fair warning about the good ending + of the first Silent Hill game:
When you get the Good Ending+ (I think the outcome is the same for the Good Ending as well), Harry Mason (main character of SH1) recieves a baby from Alessa in her Final Boss form (that angelic-like person) and Cybil, Harry, and the new baby escape together. So Heather is this new baby, but all grown up. She doesn't know that she isn't Harry's real daughter or about her coming from Silent Hill. And the big clue that this game actually relates to the first one is when they mention Harry's name. It's been a while since I've played SH3, so if anyone finds any errors, then feel free to correct me.
And about the siren noises, it's basically telling you that "The Darkness" is coming. That's when everything changes from things looking normal, to a Hellish-like look to everything.

Yeah I new about the baby emerging from the end of Silent Hill 1. I figured that would end up being Heather. I guess that an advantage to reading a plot analysis so soon before playing a new edition to the series.

Warning spoiler included in this post on first game below:
One thing that I don't get about that ending was whether or not that was supposed to be Cheryl being reborn again, and if not what happened to Cheryl.
There's probably some fact that i've forgotten which would point out the answer as it's a while since i last sat through the game, but annoyingly my memory is pretty foggy when it comes to remembering later events.

Cheryl wasn't Harry's real daughter, either, she was the "good" side of Alessa and she had been absorbed by the final boss.

Funnily enough all this talk about Silent Hill 1 and 3 made me decide to start Silent Hill 3 again yesterday, after all the months it's been gathering dust on my shelf.
Annoyingly i'm already stuck! Silent Hill 2 I found a doddle but i'm finding this a fair bit harder. Still I intend to persevere till i reach the end this time. Thank god for internet guides lol.
I havent played sh 3, can you clean something for me? (spoilers ahead)
Is Harry dead?
Play SH3 and find out!

Are you planning on getting hold of a PS3? If so then you should be able to play it on that. However if you don't think it's likely you are going to get to play the game for a long time yet, drop me a pm and i'll let you know. =) I won't post it here though as the answer would be a major spoiler for anyone in here who's not gotten very far in the game just yet.

Im not sure if ill buy the game, but if I do so i would difenetley buy the collection. I also want to buy the first Silent Hill as my Sh1 CD is a copy and i dont want to continue buying copy cds. :)
Btw Konami made a huge mistake by not adding Sh1 in the collection. A lot of people dont go buy it for that reason

Hehe I do know where you're coming from ;)
I have to say that at times the atmosphere does genuinely creep me out when I play these games even now. Particularly when it's a matter of my character being plunged into all these dark corridors for the first time and, as well as knowing there are all these monsters lurking around, not having a clue as to where i'm heading without having to keep referring to the map every few seconds lol. You have that strong sense of disorientation, whilst feeling trapped at the same time, till you've gotten to know your surroundings better.
I remember the first time I played SH1. It was at one of my mate's house and it was his sisters game. I played it and he hated it so much (it creeped him out big time) that he gave it to me. His sister was pissed, but she got another one anyways. The Silent Hill series still creeps me out after all those years and I love it!
I get more frightened when i play Sh than when i watch a good horror movie. :-P Meybe its cuz i played it at a very young age :) Bt i guess thats what keeps it interesting ;)

With SH being a game and it being necessary for the main player to control the main character, you get a much stronger feeling of being involved directly with all the weird happenings which makes it freakier than if you're watching a movie as at least during the extra disturbing parts you can think to yourself "well at least that not me on screen" lol

You may find the prices on Amazon are cheaper than in the stores, although have to say i've not checked myself as myself and my bro collected all 4 games between us.
Have to say though it beats me as to why the 1st game wasn't included with the others in the collection.
Yeah i think they thought its an old game and on ps1, who would care. But it should be included. (im at the school in sh1 now :-P)
Btw, the silent hill origins is going to be only on PSP?

I looked on amazon and they didn't have it. Going to a different video game store tomorrow because they have a book of upcoming games and one's that have just been released. Hopefully, this will be in there.
Good luck on finding it Rider. Hmm you could try out eBay 2.
