In my many years of playing and enjoying the FF games, I have to say the classics were best.
And I'm not just talking about FFVI. =]
Now don't get me wrong I still love all the FFs, but I don't think the newer ones (PSX and up)
could ever match up to the classics. (1-6)
What are your thoughts?

My feelings are mixed when it comes to which era was better. Out of the first 6 games, I found FFIII, FFV and FFVI to be fantastic, but FFI, FFII and FFIV to be mediocre. Out of the PSX/PS2 era though, the only game that I found average was FFVII (and even then I quite enjoyed it). It’s 3/6 vs 4/5 (not including Tactics, although I thought that was great as well), so I guess ultimately I prefer the PSX/PS2 era.
Well it is true, the only people who think VI is lame...
are the people who haven't played it.

My feelings are mixed. It's not that I automatically like the first six FF games more than the ones after FFVI. Although the oldies do have a shared feeling, probably 'cause it's more medieval/fantasy-styled, which i enjoy more (like in FFIX). :)

Thats right. When i started playing 7 and 8 (i started with 9 and played the classics a bit before starting playing them) i thought: What the hell is this final fabtasy? :).

<3 Same here. But still, for me, loving a FF game, it all comes down to which story has had the deepest impact on me. Although there are a lot of members here that really dislike FFVII's story line and all, but i really got into that story and it's characters much better, than, FFVIII, for example. Final Fantasy VIII was then again (at first) one of my least favorites, since it didn't really had the Final Fantasy feeling, like you said. =)

Look fuckbag, stop being a god damn asshat and jump off a fucking cliff.
Oh, and by the way, you need to stop posting.
It'd be appreciated.
I'd much rather read Trent's posts.
It seems like whenever a topic is created about such a harmless topic, stupid cunts like yourself have to belittle someone.
Like it is your job.

It's entirely not my fault your threads suck and Trents posts are full of animal pictures that are fucking retarded.

I think the classic Final Fantasies are better, but depending on how well I like FFIX, that could change in a few weeks. FFIV is probably still my favorite, I say FFVI is the best, and compared to the trash that came out on the Playstation era so far, its no contest at the moment.
EDIT: Gina, acting like a child after you say you are leaving FFS isn't going to help things.

I'm eagerly awaiting FFIII for the DS, as that comes out in a couple of months. And I'm sure I'll pick up the FFV and FFVI GBA remakes as well, so that should rekindle the old school love once again.
Please help me out.
I joined these forums were for people who would put the FF series as one of their favorites, and that this was a nice little website where you could discuss the games i na civilizied manner.
And I have only been on these forums for about a week so I don't know many of the people here.
But it would be cool that if you found a thread stupid/pointless/lame to just press the Back button and let the people who are trying to discuss continue on

I donno. I like 'em all from VI through the XII demo, except X-2 and 8 did seem to drag on a bit but was still worth playing. I have 1, 2, 4 and 5 but never gave them a chance. I'm wondering if I get a DS for 3, will I actualy finish it.

I personally enjoy FF4 out of all the others, but that's because it was my favorite when it came out for the SNES.
Oddly enough, I enjoyed playing FF1 on the NES, but I gave that up when the battery for saving died, so I couldn't play it without turning it off ;_; but the FF1 & 2 remakes are just as fun.....at least on Origins, the GBA version is way too easy since they changed the MP system on it.
The only PSX/PS2 games I play are FF7 & FFX, more of FFX though as I'm still trying to max out my characters.
I think IX and X are the only ones that are worth truly playing and getting all the extra stuff.

Personally, I think FF9 is the only post SNES era FF game I would consider playing through more than once. As for classics, FF4 and FF6 would be my choice picks.
PS : I liked the NES version of FF1 a whole lot more than the GBA remake. Why they replaced the magic tier system with a standard MP system and added in the auto-retargetting when enemies die I'd never know.

I can understand why they added the auto-retargeting, even though I wish they hadn't. As for the MP, that was totally inexscusable. They turned a decently hard Final Fantasy game into a total joke; you could save inside dungeons, reuse your ultimate magic spells over and over again, and the worst of it is that YOU COULD BUY ETHERS. What the fuck is up with that?! Part of the fun of FFI was having to save what little magic you had for the bosses and try to scrape your way through the dungeon. It was what was unique about FFI, and they ruined it.

THEY RUINED IT FOR ME FF1WITHALLTHIEVES BECAUSE I AM TOO LAZY NOW TO SPEND TIME ON A GAME AND GO LIKE BAM BAM I WAS LIKE DANG THIS IS SO EASY SQUARE-ENIX BLEW UP THE CASTLE OR SOMETHING
Oh, and I feel that Final Fantasy II sucks more than Andruw Jones' batting average, whatever that may be.

Indeed. As I understood it, FF1 is supposed to be based on DnD and thus faithful to most of the conventions of DnD.

Not to be disrespectful, but as with all the working + studying + girlfriend + social life it gets kinda hard to sit down for three hours and finish a dungeon, so i'm glad for the mid-dungeon save points
but i agree with the rest, it's become too easy
but i prefered the PSX era...as well as the classics, but i've got a good history with the latter ones ;)

How coincidental.
Also: FFIV Advance is the best version of the game.

I started with FF7 then 8 so I felt Final Fantasy should be more science fiction fantasy than medievil fantasy when I played FF9.
Then I played the classics and realised I was wrong.
The end.

Conveniently, I beat FFI with all thieves just a few months before I finally got a girlfriend.
That aside, you misinterpereted my statement about mid-dungeon saving. There were no save points in DOS; you could save right in front of a boss or any other spot in a dungeon, making for easy retries on bosses.

My favorites are FFI and VI of the classics I've played....
(Somehow, I just really like playing FFI...>>
I DID get the "Dawn of Souls" port that is easier, but the new dungeons and cameos were kind of fun...=])
I should get the original...
I haven't even finished FFVI yet, but I love it....
The music is beautiful, epic, melancholy, and longing....
I loved the Opera scene, too...."Aria De Mezzo Carattere" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. ....XD And it's only MIDI-synthesized. I think the soundtrack I've heard so far is wonderful, even with its old music-data type. I would love to see them orchestrated and remastered as a tribute to its original, but the original by itself is already wonderful....
