Castlevania has been a lot better the last few years over Final Fantasy imo. With such excellent titles as Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, and Dawn of Sorrow, it's simply adventure gaming at its best. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is already looking great too, so I anticipate that to do well.

I'm in full agreement with Smokey here. The Castlevania games are of excelent quality and I enjoy playing them more then FF on average.

However, I've been playing both of the series since I was 8. I have an immense love for both of them. However, I do have favorites of both genres:

Castlevania - Simons Quest (NES)/Dracula X (PcEngine)
Final Fantasy VI (Super Famicom)/Final Fantasy Legend II(Gameboy)

They're still not exactly comparable since Castlevania is a platformer and Devil May Cry is essentially a third-person shooter.

Besides, the 2D Castlevania games are still going strong. Dawn of Sorrow is one of the best games available for the DS, and Portrait of Ruin looks to be every bit as good.
