He's really retiring?

I am very suprised as the guy is still young, good at what he does, and has done very well out of it.

Still on the other hand guess he's now made his money, so doesn't need to carry on working in the music business to do that any longer

FurrY
11-16-2005, 04:25 PM
Well, you got to think about his family and his daughters....

Nightowl9910
11-16-2005, 05:06 PM
Must admit I don't know alot about the guys family. I did realise he had a daughter and an ex wife but that was about it. Still that is very true.

Still i've enjoyed alot of his music and feel it is a bit of a shame, especially as me and my boyfriend would have liked to have seen a concert of his. Still Madonna has pretty much retired but still does songs every now and then (even if some of them are pretty weak lol) so maybe Eminem will choose to do the same in the future.

Eminems music isn't for everyone, I used to hate listening to all that stuff myself but then once i started listening to some of the lyrics properly it started growing on me after a while. Still the hood/trackie bottoms image still hasn't hehe.

He did write his own lyrics as well as perform them. You can't say the same for many artists, and damn original some of them were too, even if they are counted as s**t by many (not excluding myself in past times)

I really don't like Eminem, so I am one of those people that look upon this as good news.

He can't really hit a tune with his voice in anything except when its a chorus. And thats only sometimes.
Also i dislike his lyrics.

But then again music and people rely on different opinions.

Eminem is lyrics are also hilarious and fun and some of them can be a bit sad though but still :D

eminem makes really good music. he is really really great with words. i dont see how someone could deny that =/

i think its a good idea for him to do so, especially since he created the monster known as 50 cent. he loves his daughter a lot and keeping her out of harm would be a good idea. besides, its not like he'll never rap again or anything.

I admit one of the first things about those that I liked/found funny was all the swearing, still thats my shallow sense of humour lol.

Still I was impressed with the tune "Stan". That is a song that people can relate to on many levels, particularly as it tackles the disturbing issue of how obsessed people can become with artists in the entertainment business. Even people I know, who aren't Eminem fans, like that song because of the points that the lyrics touch upon.

It was that song that changed my opinion of Eminem. He isn't what his public image shows him to be.

Started reading a comic, and suddenly everything became gray
I couldn't even see what I was tryin to read
I went deaf, and my left ear started to bleed
My mother started screamin, "What are you on, drugs?!?
Look at you, you're gettin blood all over my rug!" (Sorry!)
She beat me over the head with the remote control
opened a hole, and my whole brain fell out of my skull
I picked it up and screamed, "Look bitch, what have you done?!?"

Well I don't see whats wrong with those lyrics, although admittedly i haven't heard those ones as though have listened to quite a few Eminem tunes there's plenty yet i haven't listened to.

Still those lyrics tell me that a first person view of the experience of parent abuse is being expressed in that song, therefore tackling the subject of child abuse, again another serious issue which occurs worldwide. To me it shows that alot of thought/emotion went into the words in order to get that message across clearly to listeners.

Well anyway, without rambling on about all that, I can see why Eminem is retiring as it's understandable why he would put his family/daughter first. So long as he continues to rap every now and then then i'm happy =)

Brain damage is even one of my favorite tunes of him and the whole Slim Shady lp is a classic
didnt really follow much of him after that as i kinda left the whole hip hop scene when it finally exploded on the entire world(wich he was a big part of) but the songs i still bump into with D12 etc are still great(My band is friggin hilarious)

WTF! When did he retire!? Pity, he was an excellent mc.

I think that if more people listened to the actual lirycal content in most of his songs, the lyrics and the great fashion in which he presents them is amazing.

I think Sing for the Moment is a good example of his talent:

".....It's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing
Except for a dream and a fucking rap magazine
Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long
Idolise their favourite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives
So they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die
Till they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe
We're nothing to you, but we're the fuckin' shit in their eyes
That's why we sieze the moment, and try to freeze it and own it
Squeeze it and hold it, 'cos we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through out lyrics that you hear in our songs"

If I could capture the rage of today's youth and bottle it
Crush the glass from my bare hands and swallow it
Then spit it back in the faces of you racists
and hypocrites who think the same shit but don't say shit
You Liberace's, Versace's, and you nazis
Watch me, cause you thinkin you got me in this hot seat
You motherfuckers wanna JUDGE me cause you're NOT me
You'll never STOP me, I'm TOP speed as you POP me
I came to save these new generations of babies
from parents who failed to raise 'em cause they're lazy
to grow to praise me I'm makin 'em go crazy
That's how I got this whole nation to embrace me
And you fugazi if you think I'ma admit wrong
I cripple any hypocritic critic I'm sic'd on
And this song is for any kid who gets spitted on <---- instead of "spitted" it should read "picked"
A sick song to retaliate to, and it's called..

You find me offensive? I find you offensive
For finding me offensive
Hence if I should draw a line on any fences
If so to what extense if
Any, should I go? 'Cause it's getting expensive
Being on the other side of the courtroom on the defensive
They say that I cause extensive
Pshycological nerve damage to the brain when I go to lenghts this,
Far at other people's expenses
I say your all just too god damn sensitive
It's censorship
And it's down right blasphomous
Listen to shit now cause I won't stand for this
And Chirs-stiff-pher Reeves won't sit for this neither
And let's clear this up too I ain't got no beef with him either
He used to be like a hero to me
I even believe I, had one of those 25 cent stickers on my re--fridgerator
Right next to Darth Vader
And Darth must have put a hex on him for later
I feel like it's my fault cause of the way that
I stuck him up in between him and Lex Luther
I killed Superman, I killed Super--man
And how ironic, that I'd be the bad guy
Kryptonite: The Green Chronic

I love that part of Rain Man :-D especially the first line

You should probably use Google, it's a little known search engine but it has developed a rather rabid fanbase. After a simple search I found thousands of articles on his retirement, although none of those I read were on a site I would consider reputable, but I can see how FurY came to the conclusion that Eminem had retired. So, no reputable sources and practically no interest on my part mean that this is as good an article as I'm prepared to find on the subject:

Well I'm pretty sure he is still finishing his "Curtain Call" (greatest hits) album, so he is not officially retired.

Um, I guess someone has not heard Return of da Baby Killa, by Brotha Lynch Hung.

No, I have not heard it but I just had a look at the lyrics on the net and........

"You better pray
When you see me put that nine up in that pussy, ho
Cock it back slow
Rock it back and forth, wait for the nut, then let my trigger go
Boom!
Pussy-guts all over the room
If you ain’t seen it,
Then you’re fiendin’
For the meanin’
Of that nina of doom
2 inches in and, uh, 4 inches out
You back that nigga that pack that gat
And hit that indo-sack"

........the whole song is fucked up, what is this shit.

agree'd 100%

and as far as his lyrics. they are either meant to "take the piss" (this should help denny understand!) or are simply made to get a rise out of people. And a lot of his songs are funny. i really enjoy him as an artist, although I like his older stuff a lot more. I think its perfectly alright for him to retire, because I think he's sort of worn out his niche in the music world.

Well I talked to my friend who went to his recent concert here in California. He told me Eminem, about half way through his show told the crowd "I've heard all these rumors about me hanging up my Mic, you want to know what I think about that shit", he then proceeded to pull his pants down and moon the crowd. He then said "That's bullshit, I'm never going to quit, you can bank on that."
