What's the worst thing that can happen to an artist? *thinks* Lose both his arms!
>_< Errmmm... hehe, not what I was getting at.
I made this terrible terrible decision of subscribing to an art class... why stiz this terrible? Well, 1st I draw ( used to anyway ) anime, which is way different from photography. I rely on creativity, these creeps want me to copy... The fact is I'm very good at copying things. In less than 3 drawings ( cuz the third never got finished ), one with pencil, the others with crayons, I was able to get to what they say it to be the highest level in art : oil paintings.
I now spend +3 hours everytime I go to that so called art class, drawing on topics I don't like, having a hell of a lonely time ( cuz they're all freakin old; me bein 16 >_< ), and getting SATED from drawing. When I return home, I can't get myself to draw any other things than just plain lines that mean nothing, nothing at all.
To make the things worse, I've lost my hardly gained touch to draw anime properly...
Add this to my already f-up life and... nah, forget it...

Seems like you need inspiration. Adam Smith is one of my favourite artist and he makes oil paintings only. He's friggin' good at it too. It's just that his topics and designs are a bit different from the rest. He has worked on various fantasy projects including Chronopia and Warhammer, painting large scale battles for the most part. I'll show you a few paintings if you're interested.

As for anime. I find that manga inspires me more than anything. Especially something with a distinctive style, like Lone Wolf and Cub or Blade of the Immortal.

Hope to see more work from you soon.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Sounds like your brain has picked up on the fact that you aren't using imagination in that class, and now it's having trouble going back to it.

You need to go out and do something that stimulates your mind.
Funnily enough, that usually means go play some sport for me. It gets my mind in another place, and clears it of all the rubbish of the day.

Make sure that when you get inspired, immediately put it onto paper, even if it's just a quick and simple scetch. You'll be able to pick up on it later.

Good luck!

;P

actually. i dont think it's lack of inspiration. i think i've either been where he's at..or i'm there right now.

what i think i understood is that you loved it when you drew anime and stuff. and now, you realise that OTHER people's definition of "true" art is NOT anime.

i kinda feel that myself. not to mention that anime is just a style you know. and styles come from oneself. so it's worse to copy someone elses style. the copying in an art class is not a style but techniques or soemthing in order to improve your own skills. i know. i'm taking art too.

so that what i think your feelling. let me know if i'm close.
