I've just beaten the Ruby Weapon by using ONLY Cloud. I started with the other two members dead and I didn't revive them for the whole fight, and neither I needed the Final Attack Materia because I was not even knocked out.
I'm feeling very proud about it =)

It`s not reallt that amazing considering Ruby gets rid of two team members using the vortex. So, it`s usualy the case beating him with only one person. But good job, i`ve never beat it.

No, actually it wouldn't be necessary to have to fight with less than three people: if you start the encounter with one character alive and two dead the Weapon will immediately make the gray stuffs appear behind you. Then you can revive both your companions and it will not make them disappear anymore

Heh, I defeated him with just Cloud after Ruby removed Barret and Tifa from the battle - Cloud was mastered at level 99 with Ultima Weapon, Ribbon, Mystile, Master materia etc. It took a while, and I had to use quite a few Elixirs, but in the end, it just came down to a slugging match with Cloud trading blows with the beast (having Big Guard, Regen and Haste helped enormously).

In the end, it ran out of MP ('Ruby WEAPON has ran out of mind power'), meaning it couldn't use half of it's attacks, which made it a little easier by that point. It must have taken about half and hour at least, but I eventually managed to do it in.

One hour and a half?!?!
Me too I had Cloud level 99, Ultima Weapon, Mystile and Ribbon.
Then I hade two Master Summon: one with support MP Absorb and the second with HP Absorb, so I never needed to use elixirs, ethers or what else, W-Summon, HP Plus, Mp Plus, two Magic Plus (master) so that every attack of KOTR scored 9999 hit points and two Speed Plus (master) that made me evade almost every Ultima the Ruby spelled.
I also had equipped Master Command and Revive with Final Attack but I didn't need them.
It took me about 10/15 minutes to beat it, just the time to cast the KOTR seven times (two per round with the double summon), so I didn't 'suffer ' as I thought I would have done =P
I had already beaten that weapon a long tme ago, but using all the three characters and it has been very hard anyway, so I got really surprised when I found out how easy it was this time. Spacco!

I keep telling people to do this every time they tell me to revive the party members. I hate reviving party members and coming into a battle preplanned. So I walked in there and raped him too. Yoou had Mystille equipped right? It stops his Ultima counter attack. =D

Then it's mystile that helped me avoiding Ultima? Fine, I thought it was because of the Spleed Plus :P
I think that starting that fight with two dead members it's the best, and that going into a difficult battle preplanned with an efficient plan is just what differenciates a good player from a medium player =P

I may have been able to do that, but not with my equipment. You see, I was on a quest to get a set of Master Materia for each of my used characters. So, I fought him with rune armlets and all the materia I wanted to level up. My HP was only around 3000 for each person. So yeah, I kind of needed Final Attack and all three of my characters.

I just never managed to beat it. Kudos to all who could though.

if u never beat an easy thing to is us w-summon hades. KOTR it will para lise him so he wont counter then KOTR for massive damage after a bunch of those he dies

How about beating a difficult battle with one person instead of three people is what separates a good player from a mediocre one. Not planning. Final Fantasy battles don't require planning. Ruby Weapon was not hard. Emerald Weapon was not hard. I beat Emerald at level 50 without the underwater materia. I didnt even KNOW there was a materia that stopped the timer.

Thats certainly not something i could do in a hurry, although i ve gotten pretty far in the game i ve still got work to do before i could hope to suceed in doing that =)

Ok, but how is it possible to beat one of the weapons with only one character? You MUST do this two things:

1)Have a high level of the character and the materias he uses
2)Equip him with the best weapon/armor/relic, the best materias and the best materia links; and this is planning and we're again at the starting point.

...hell I am just happy I beat the weapons, I dont need to go make it harder! hahaha

1 thing to take him out EASY is all lucky 7 its maybe hard to get but its worth it :D
