Any real metal fans here, ones who are not ashamed to admit they own a Manowar album, or something of that sort? I mean real, "warriors of Steel", fans of Rhapsody, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Demons and Wizards, that sort of stuff, and the more weird bands, namely, Finntroll.
So, hark, are there any actual metal fans out there?

Depends on how and when someone is a fan. If it's about owning a CD or actually wearing merchandise and going to concerts?

I like metal but only certain bands, none of which are mentioned aboved. I abhorr bands like Manowar, Rhapsody, Blind Guadian, Hammerfall, etc. because I think they're fucking ridiculous. Guess I'm not "true" enough.

Yeah, I'll admit I'm not too clued in on many proper metal bands out there, I really need to one day slog through a whole load of albums to see what's really out there.

Anyway, not to be confused with a troll, I'm quite the metal fan, just get me and my mate scott togther and we'll rant about metal for hours, I just need to be educated in the ways of lesser known bands.

I don't want to look like a poser so I won't say that i'm a complete metal maniac. I do listen to alot of metal bands but I don't go all out and buy as much cd's as I can and buy all the merchendise available.. Most metal bands I like were thrown upon me by friends.. They either recommend me to songs, burn me cd's or lend me cd's to listen to. I don't have alot of cd's myself but I have heard alot of music.
I prefer industrial metal than any other kind but I don't label myself as a fan just based on the industrial bands I like (Marilyn manson, Rammstein, Rob zombie etc..).
I also like some traditional metal like judas priest and iron maiden ,some thrash metal like pantera and metallica and some progressive metal like opeth and dream theater.
When it comes to the other, more screamed genres of metal like Black, Death, Doom etc, I only enjoy them when i'm in a bad mood. The screamed out lyrics, mix of orchestrial sounds and heavy instruments sort of sooths me and calms me down. Cradle of filth, My dying bride, Venom, Marduk, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Emperor etc, are a few bands in these genres that I listen to on occasion.

This all depends on what you mean by 'real metal'. There are a lor of genre's out there and fans of one genre will concider their favourite as real metal.
So your thread title would be better as 'Do you like power metal?' Which is what Dragonforce, Man'o'war et al are.
Personaly i dont mind Dragonforce for the cheese factor. Kind of amusing.
I generaly listen to the heavier stuff such as Chimaira and Lamb Of God. Im also a bit fan of a UK, underground hardcore metal band called Stampin Ground. Awesome stuff.
But as for my faves.......its gotta be Maiden! :)
I presonally am a big fan of K.I.L.L.S.T.O.M.P. and bLooD sMasH and many more very obscure metal bands that only TRUE metal fans know about.
Finally! Someone in this thread knows what some REAL real metal is! I mean, there's real metal... but then there's real real metal, such as K.I.L.L.S.T.O.M.P. and bLooD sMasH.
Some other real real metal bands I like:
gorothoros
eviscerator misanthrope
Hell Meteor
Milk From Satan's Cattle
Doomgrief
chilDSlaughter
pedo mc tax me softly, black person (whom i love)

Dragonforce is childish emo/geek music.
Real metal was forged during the 80's and the early 90's.
Listen to Quiet Riot, Iron Angel, Leatherwolf or Sinner. That's music.

Strapping Young Lad
The Devin Townsend Band
Amon Amarth
Death
Pantera
Opeth
Spawn of Possession
Cannibal Corpse
Dethklok [even though its a cartoon, but it does have Gene Hoglan in it]
Lamb of God
Sacred Reich
I can't think of anymore right now. I also dig some prog metal. Even other types of music.

I listen to the type of metal that comes from bands that were around when Real Metal was pure, when it was clean and balanced, not when it was distorted more than a Picasso abstract painting, with vocalists lacking the energy to keep the music tamed, when bass was actually there, when drums weren't all about how fast you could slam the double bass pedals.
When it was Hellbent for Leather, Screaming for Vengeance.
Come forth, Defenders of the Faith and speak the true word of metal!
Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, DIO, Ozzy, W.A.S.P., Black Sabbath and lol Metallica, those are the examples I lay unto forth this thread.
I think that means my hand wins the game.

Now that is a jackass comment right there. I love all kinds of metal, and I still listen to many other genres such as Classical, blues, jazz, latin (everything but rap), so YOU are not a true metal fan, metal is not for narrow minded people.
Anywho, I go from Sabbath and Purple, to Priest and Maiden, up to Shadows Fall and Lamb of God. I like Blind Guardian, Slayer, Metallica, Yakuza, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Machine Head, Pantera, the usuals. But as for bands that are less known, Kalmah, Fleshcrawl, Gates of Ishtar, Venom, Siebenburgen, Suffocation and on and on.
I wouldn't call myself a metalhead or anything like that, but Metal is a big part of my musical journey and influencment. I play guitar and drums, and I play a lot of this stuff on drums (blast beats/double bass and wat not). I play more Zep and Hendrix on guitar though.

Any music with a heavy bass and guitar, and badass drums is metal in my opinion. Sure, it might sound shitty, but who cares. I don't really care who plays it, as long as I can rock out to it. There are some bands, like, Trivium, that I do not like. Other bands, like Soulfly and Slipknot are alright. I even like drum machines. Devin Townsend's latest album, Ziltoid, the Omniscient, has a drum machine in it, but I still love the album. Dev makes it sound great, and the drums rule, even for a machine. If a band makes their metal music on a computer, do you really care? I don't. You should like the music for what it is, not what some idiot on your favorite metal site says about them. Hell, if you've listened to them for the first time and don't like them, give them another chance.

Lol im a huge metal fan but calling all those POWER metal bands true metal is just a bit exagerrating........Its a brilliant genre though,im a bit surprised you didnt include Sonata Arctica and Hammerfall in your picks as well lol.Problem with Dragonforce is that a lot of their songs are similar which even constant guitar solos cant fix
