Im not sure if there is already a Rob/White Zombie thread but i'll make one anyway.. If there is already then please feel free to close this one.
Anyway's...
Rob zombie was once the lead singer of the band 'white zombie' but he split up with them and went solo. Zombie's real name is Robert Cummings.. I find alot of people categorize his music as Nu metal but in my oppinion is more industrial and some songs can get a teency bit grindcore and a little bit thrash. White zombie is more thrashy and heavy than his solo stuff.. His solo stuff is alot more industrial sounding..
What does everyone else think of Rob Zombie/White zombie? How do you prefer him? Solo or White?

Ooh That reminds me.. He has also made two movies: House of 1000 corpses, Devils Rejects.. he has also made a series of comics entitled; Rob Zombies Spookshow international
He also made the hallucination scene in the beavis and butthead movie..

haha. I liked House of 1,000 Corpses despite it being an absolute shit movie.
I realize Rob Zombie's got elements of industrial music, but I think calling his music flatout industrial is a bit of a stretch. I like a few tracks, but it's not the sort of thing I'd admit to often.

I hate labeling music really but compared to bands I know that are typically considered grindcore or thrash, Rob Zombie/White Zombie is pretty different. I've actually never heard anyone refer to his music as 'nu metal' either. As for "properly labeling" his music, I really don't know what phrase could be used.
I do like some of his stuff, and he seems pretty skilled with sequencing which I really respect. His live perfomances are well executed, there's a lot of energy and that's a breath of fresh air considering how many other rock acts just stand in one place the whole time. On the negative side, his lyrics suffer quite a bit from being total nonsensical nods to horror/sci-fi films and comics in pretty much every song. While I also like that stuff, it'd be better if his lyrics were more varied and atleast sometimes contained subject matter people could relate to on a more personal level.
I also understand that he doesn't really give his band a lot of creative control. I realize he is far from being the only "selfish minded" musician when it comes to song writing, but I would still respect him a lot more if he atleast let his guitarist do more than just chug palm muted power chords along to the electronic backtrack in more than a few songs.
As for his work as an artist, I think he has a pretty appealing style. As with his lyrics, it's not hard to spot his influences, but it's still sort of cool.
Tis all, I guess.

The House of 1,000 Corpse made me laugh as hell, after the graveyard part, i just didn't understand what happened, very abd movie indeed, reminds me of House of Wax...
When it comes to shitty pseudo-metal that is supposed to be weird and spooky and mostly just comes off as juvenile, I guess you could do a lot worse than Rob Zombie.

I disagree with that pretty much completely. No one ever said lyrics had to be something you can relate to. In fact, if you listen to a lot of the stuff that came out in the late 70s and early 80s, you'd find it was pretty similar.
I listen to music because I enjoy it, not because I'm looking for messages that might mean something in my personal life.

I was stating why his music does not agree with my own personal taste...not trying to riddle off some bs "fact" I dreamed up. That's cool that you can look past it if lyrics don't mean much. I absolutely do not care that your opinion on the matter differs from mine and can completely respect that. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm sorry if I gave off a negative vibe with what I said, I surely didn't intend to.
I think I was the one who came off a little more negative than intended, actually. I wasn't berating you or anything. Just giving my own POV.

Ah, I see. I just took the "no one ever said..." sentence as if you thought I was trying to throw my opinion around as fact. Sorry 'bout that.

What do you take me for, someone who listens to shitty pseudo-metal that is supposed to be weird and spooky and mostly just comes off as juvenile.

well obviously you have some experience with it, judging from your rob zombie comments !
To suppose that you could do worse than Rob Zombie doesn't really imply that I have experience with it. All I meant by the comment was that he is surprisingly listenable for someone so impossible to take seriously.

that is the sole funniest thing ive ever heard. Ive seen a manowar dvd and almost half the footage is spent on motorbike scenes on highways. the rest is tight leather and chains. raunchy.
Ih and I like Dragula by rob yombie. not much else though.

Manowar is the worst band ever. RIDING HORSES MADE OF STEEEEEEEEL.
Anyway, I don't think Zombie wants to be taken too seriously as his main inspirations are campy sci-fi/horror properties as mentioned above and as that campiness is a large part of the charm to most who are into that stuff, I doubt that in his relentless homages and references to it that he somehow believes he is giving it more notoriety.
On a note of possible maturation past the whole "shock rock" sort of feel, he has been performing live shows for a while now simply in t-shirts and jeans, with a much more limited stage spectacle than before. Who knows if this will continue on to any future music releases though, provided there are any.
Not that I care. If I don't though why'd I bother myself typing this shit?
...son of a bitch
Dragon Force is worse than Manowar.

Eh. Manowar probably knows on some level that they are being silly. Really I think that creating a shitty fantasy metal band and knowing you're being a goofball is worse than actually being into it. I don't find Manowar nearly as obnoxious.

Manowar takes themselves absolutely seriously. They think they're the hottest shit out there. My dad is a huge fan of theirs and thus I have had to sit through many sessions of their bullshit. Every single song is about one of two things: how "metal" they are, or nonsense about vikings and kings. They take pride in considering themselves "the loudest band in the world" and absolutley love parading around in leopard printed loin cloths. Nothing about it to them is a joke or silly. They honestly think that they're a great band.
I know I didn't give any great argument for that, but trust me, it's just extremely obvious and I really hate talking about them because I don't want to start vomiting.
But see, them taking it seriously is what makes it humorous to me, which implies to me that on some level maybe they find it humorous too. Things are often funniest if you convince people you're serious.
