I have 10 N64 games, and am looking to expand my collection.
What I have so far:
Super Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Starfox 64
Waverace 64
Diddy Kong Racing (X0)
Banjo-Kazooie
LOZ: Orcarina of Time (<3)
LOZ: Majora's mask
Super Smash Brothers
Perfect Dark :D
Suggestions?
Aidyn Chronicles ~ The first mage was good, it was a nice dark "mature" type Rpg for the N64 system.
A bit wonky and the 3d graphics are terrible but a very enjoyable game anyway.

Does anyone else see that the title of this thread is still "Over/Under rated games"? The edit button here sucks. :/
What do you want the title changed to?
Also, you have most of the best N64 games already, but off the top of my head: Paper Mario, Mario Tennis and Golf, maybe one of the Rush games, Ogre Battle 64, Rayman 2, some Mario Party (I never played past 2, but it was great multiplayer fun. Don't get the original though, it destroys your controller).
If you ever come across it for really cheap, you could try this old espionage action game for N64 called Winback. It was kind of like Time Crisis mixed with Goldeneye but in third person, if that makes any sense, and a lot of people hated it but I thought it was one of the more fun action games to come out at the time. It had a small amount of that old-school arcadey feel that's been almost lost now. Shitty graphics though.

How can you have a N64 and not have Goldeneye 007? IMO, it is one of the best first person shooters on a console (For it's time, and to me, it can still hold it's own even today.).
Also, I'd recommend Star Wars Rogue Squadron for one reason alone : Flying around in that flying hunk of junk, the Millenium Falcon.
I don't think there's that much reason to get Goldeneye if you've already got Perfect Dark, which is a vastly superior version of the same game. I guess just to do the different missions in Goldeneye. But really, Goldeneye isn't all that... it was pretty good when it came out, but after getting used to PD it just feels slow and mucky to me.

Jet Force Gemini was a lot of fun.
Harvest Moon 64 is great, but not for everyone.
I also remember having some fun with the bomberman games on the N64, but I like almost everything that has to do with bomberman.
Oh man, I forgot about Jet Force Gemini. I liked the parts of that game that involved blowing stuff to bits, but I had to spend too long trying to figure out how to get to the next area and it bothered me too much to actually buy it. Still pretty fun though.
I'd say you're slightly crazy for advocating the N64 Bomberman games though. >_>

N64 games. Thanks, BTW. ^_^
Also, I had Rayman 2, but it was the most frustrating game I have ever played, even more so than the Megaman games. It made me want to kill everyone and everything around me and smash every expensive vase in my general vicinity. So I traded it for Perfect Dark, which I prefer to Goldeneye because it has realistic blood (It freaking sticks to walls!), badguys that scream in agony (because I'm a cynical bitch), and an alien. A PLAYABLE alien, if you can get the cheat. Not to mention guns that can shoot through walls, Americans with British accents (lol), and voice acting that's so bad it's good. One of Rare's few gems.
I was going to disagree with you about Rayman 2 but then you mentioned not liking Mega Man, so I gess I'll just chalk it up to poor taste!

Um was Pokemon Snap any good?
If you like rail shooters I think it's a pretty good game. The photoshooting aspect gives it a unique twist (you don't just shoot at the target, you wait until it's in the pose you want) and if you are a Pokemon fan (like me) it's a treat to see all the Pokemon in their "habitats" just being Pokemon.
But then again I think Pokemon Stadium was a fucking awesome idea so maybe I'm just biased.

ok. i'm gonna settle this. and you should all listen to me because i'm a nintendo loyalist, member of the ncrew since like...97 and.... i rule. :p (nah j/k you can ignore me and make fun of me. :))
anyway. long ago, when n64 was the shit, and ps WAS shit, (hehe) i loved goldeneye and hated perfect dark. i thought (and still do actually) think goldeneye rulz. i rented perfect dark, and for some reason... hated it. (mostly because back in the day, i hated missions altogether. mission based games pissed me off. i was lucky i liked goldeneye. but for some reason i kinda did...anyway..)
after many years, (like...4 or 5). i took advantage of gamestops "buy 2 n64 games get one free) so i did. however i was stuck for my 3rd game. i couldn't decide.
i decided to come back later in the week to see if they had new n64 games to choose as my free one. i saw perfect dark on the 3 occassions that i went back hoping they'd have a new n64 game, untill i said, "well, better something than nothing casue this offer is gonna end tomorrow" and so i got perfect dark. (which btw, was priced at 4.99 for your information). i mention its price because we all know that's how used n64 games sell for most of the time. but heres the kicker. what was REALLY surprising. was this game was BRAND FUCKING NEW!!!
5 years after its release, and the game was newer than a newborn baby. still had the plastic over the box itself. perfect condition. i still remember removing the cartridge from its little plastic bag. i was ultra happy even though in the back of my mind, from a previous rental years ago, the game sucked. you just don't get lucky like this. even though i remember hating the game, the fact that it was new, made me happy like hell.
anyway, when i returned home, i gave it another chance. after a few hours of play, i now think that perfect dark.....is the greatest game ever made! (let me clarify, GREATEST FPS GAME FOR THE N64 ever made). so there you have it.
long story short. (sorry, i just thought it was an interesting story). but as tk was saying. if you have perfect dark, you don't really need goldeneye. but since i'm a collector, i have both. haha!
anyway. i'm too lazy to recommend games. so i'll just link you to my entire game collection, and you can go ahead, and assume that my n64 collection are my reccommendations and you should buy them or die!

I didn't think so. The only places I found it to get "jerky" was the large field where you find Elvis in Alaska, and the top of the dataDyne building. But you have to consider how much stuff had to be shown on the screen in those places. Other than that, I thought it controlled as smoothly as (dare I say it?) Halo.

I loved Pokemon Snap, but I usually am embarassed to admit it, since people get so anti-pokemon.
It was a pretty neat idea for a game, though. I'd love to play another photoshooting game someday. My only complaint with it is that I beat it VERY quickly.

Honestly, I don't think Goldeneye had a whole lot of pizazz. It was kind of goofy, what with the "I'm James Bond... WITH JAGGIES!" thing. At least PD was its own world and didn't feel like it was losing a suaveness it was supposed to have in an impossible translation. The whole aliens thing made it seem a little too Saturday morning cartoonish, definitely, but it didn't really bother me nearly enough to detract from the awesome game I was playing.
In my opinion PD plays a LOT smoother than Goldeneye, but I mean, I guess it probably depends a lot on the person. I'm not an FPS player in general, so I'm not used to the ultra-smooth PC ones. If you're used to those it would make sense than Goldeneye and PD would feel less different to you, I suppose. Me, I have a near impossible time of it when I try to go back to Goldeneye. It just feels sluggish and clunky to me.
As to the N64 in general: I think calling it the "second best system ever" has got to be a really ridiculous stretch for anybody. Some of my favorite games ever came out on this system, but even I, the diehard Nintendo loyalist and Sony hater, will readily admit that there's much more worth playing on the PlayStation. Hell, I'd go so far as to say the Saturn was a better system if you are getting imports (actually for me I wouldn't hesitate, but I realize most people are going to take that like insanity because OMG SATURN SUCKED LOL), and the Dreamcast definitely was, and even the PS2 I'd say... but the N64 was pretty good. It managed to produce a surprisingly high volume of quality titles, especially later in its lifespan.
Guitar Woman
09-03-2005, 06:08 AM
I don't think it was "saturday morning cartoonish." I thought that it had more of an "X-files" feel to it.
And I play PC shooters. They aren't much different, except for the fact that you can aim a lot easier. Goldeneye may seem a little klunky to Half-Lifers and the like, but PD is pretty much on the same level.
Also, I really love the N64. I love it more than I love Earthbound (but just a little) and I make sweet secksy love to it every night. If it had had Squaresoft or Enix putting games on it, I think it would have become the greatest system of all time.
But that's the price you pay for using carts. :(
"Beyond Good and Evil"?
Definately!
Come to think of it I have only Ever played any FPS's on N64.
I am dead within 5 seconds if it was a super fast smooth sim I need the clunkier ones to enjoy it. lol

No, I'm just kinda freaked out by the idea that there's a place filled with evil music and zombies with fucking scary faces ready to paralize and wrap themselves around me, then proceed to suck out all of my health while making that fucking creepy zombie noise. Back in the day, Redeads were especialy scary since I sucked at button mashing and could never get them off of me before I died. Perfect Dark
That's a mighty great collection that you have there, but surely you must add these games:
Paper Mario - Such an excellent game that was vastly underrated because it came out at the very end of Nintendo 64's life. It spawed the better sequel for the Gamecube, but by itself this is an awesome RPG.
Goldeneye: Yes, I believe Perfect Dark has the considerably better multiplayer, but this game has the considerably better single-player. If you're looking for the first-person shooter that spawned a lot of todays ideas, get this game.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter - Another underrated game, and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Great controls and visuals for the time, and has really good gameplay values.
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil - The last great game in the Turok series. Pick it up as well.
Meh, 4 is enough for now.
