Hello,
Many problems with this forum and only a few users who can access it make me think that this one will soon be closed.
Can we have some information's from the administrators. Is a solution being sought to re-establish this forum?
I hope youll give us some good news.
Thank you very much for your answer.
turner6 (Daniel)
I second Daniel's inquiry.
The masses that can't access this forum need to know it's working once again by clicking on their established link. Over the last couple of months this forum's has had it's periods of having access and not being able to have access. I only way I knew was to keep checking back everyday on my bookmarked link. Disabling Javascript doesn't come to minds of about 95 percent of those locked out, looking for a way back in.

I stumbled across a post on Reddit advising disabling Javascript to get back into ffs. I've shared the link on another Reddit ffshrine thread so hopefully others will see it and spread the word.

Are there multiple subreddits devoted to FFShrine? This is the one I'm familiar with, where I found the Javascript trick:

I've also done the javascript trick, as well as add the Ublock filters (which work). I also have NoScript installed, which fends off some of the malevolent scripts and pop-ups.
But they're all just sticking plasters for a much bigger problem. The site hasn't even been updated to the more secure, encrypted HTTPS.
As far as I am aware, admin has been missing-in-action for a very long time.
Many people have tried to reach them to no avail, and I'm concerned that the site will eventually succumb, which will be a real shame because this is a great community and rarities are shared here that are otherwise unavailable.
While continuing to track down admin, maybe we should also think about an alternative site, just in case, just as a back up - somewhere we can all go to and reconvene should the site suddenly vanish for good.

I've gotten around the problem by getting rid of lines in the page source code that begin with "showpopup" (via CharlesProxy rewrite)
Also getting rid of the following tag:
async src="//
pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js">
There still are a few quirks but the malware problem seems to go away.

yeah, we do need an overhaul. vb is ancient and insecure engine, i suggest discourse, it's modern and mobile-friendly. or even mybb.us, free host that's been around for more than a decade. i dunno about reddit, it's mostly a meme site and a place for corporate-run communities. they have been known for silencing/removing subs they don't like. maybe voat is an decent option too.

I started this thread because I wanted to know what the administrator is planning to do something to save this forum.
The presence of this forum is very important to us.

I presume my inability over the last few days to open spoilered posts is down to this as well then?
the best solution would be to start another forum and migrate, but then again all this costs money, so I don't know who is going to take the helm in making a new forum, it sure as hell isn't going to be admin since she is apparently dead

I fully share turner6s concerns and legitimate question. Hope we can salvage the forum or move to another one. Im sure there are many participants who are willing to help. It would be nice to have information from the administrators about the current situation.

I've noticed that, too. Annoying.

Spoiler tags can't be normally opened, if you have disabled JavaScript completely in order to access this forum.
To circumvent that problem, you can install the extension "Web Developer" for Google Chrome and choose from it "Disable Inline Styles", which opens all spoiler tags. You have to do that for every page separately, though. But I think it's better than disabling all CSS, which makes everything hard to read. ("Inline styles" are just one part of CSS, and disabling them doesn't hurt readability on the forum almost at all.)
If you use Firefox, you can disable spoiler tags apparently by "opening the menu bar option 'View', 'Page Style', and selecting 'No Style'" (original post here (
Thread 237428)).

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!
All of these "field expedients" are in reality just the re-shuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic. We need a repaired and secure forum. Still,no word from above. I hold out little hope for this site, all the while hoping that I'm totally wrong.

If you add the following filter in uBlock Origin, it will automatically expand all spoilers even if you have Javascript disabled:
forums.ffshrine.org##.spoiler:style(display: block !important)

Mod Leon basically posted a thread to twitter saying "Sarah and Jessie are both MIA 90% of the time and I can't and don't want to contact them so y'all are fucked," and as far as I can tell he's the only mod that's still really relevant.

Well, thats sad, but we got 12-13 years with some awesome people here, and I sincerely hope a new forum pops up somewhere as we had a lot of cool shares during the years.

It doesn't only cost money to make a new forum. Since this is all illegal (or a LOT of it), people might get sued, arrested for running a forum like this. Even sites that were setup very securely got busted in the past (.to domain, letterbox company in some country that doesn't care about copyright etc) but those had arguably more heat on them. And setting it up securely costs a lot more money than just running it on a normal server.

How come the site is still running if no one is at the helm? Who has been paying for all these years the Administrators stopped being active? Would have been nice to have some information directly from the people who know these things. Other than indirectly hearing from some douche moderator contemptuously twitting that we were all fucked. What to go, bucko!

This is entirely conjecture, but I'd think Sarah probably still fronts the fees for running it, albeit at a very leisurely pace, which might be why we get those weeks of downtime occasionally. That's just a guess, though.

Thank you for your input and link to the Twitter thread, somebread. I dont do Twitter but reading through this Gabriel guy explanations, I keep thinking that he has no clue what this forum was about and what it means/meant to some members. At least the ones who love film music and cant find many people to share their passion with. Illegality and having time to create a better place during those 15 years are a moot point. Sure, I wish it was more about sharing taste and opinions than getting free stuff but when anybody took the time to upload some music, I was very grateful and paid attention to what they were sharing. The music speaks for itself and a few remarks are welcome. We could all go to FSM, but even there they rarely discuss film music. At least in the Shrine, we had the music to rely on and could widen our musical landscape thanks to the generosity of the contributors. And for that, I will be forever beholden to this place.

I never visit or use reddit, but I did see a vague recommendation to "block scripts" somewhere. I couldn't find a Firefox setting to disable javascript, and the add-on I used to do it was effecting gmail as well. Another addon "Disable Javascript" can be enabled for specific websites, so that's my solution of the moment.
