Okay so Kimya Dawson is a founding member of weird and hilarious indie band The Moldy Peaches. She does solo stuff too, that's also fairly amusing, but much more laid back. Really mellow, fun singer-songwriter stuff with a terrifically sardonic, or sometimes just outright depressing edge to it. I make the thread because I'm going to see her this Wednesday and I'm pretty excited about it and thought I'd share so maybe some of you goons could check her tour dates and maybe go see her yourselves.

There are some songs you can listen to on her web site.

Hey, I thought the name was familiar. I read about her in John Darnielles blog thingo Last Plane to jakarta (http://www.lastplanetojakarta.com/index.php), where he linked to that 'Lullaby for the Taken' music video.

I thought it was beautiful little tune, so I will definitely have to check out more of her stuff, along with these Moldy Peaches you speak of!

Oh man, this can be a Moldy Peaches thread, too. They are so incredibly great. They have songs with titles ranging from "N.Y.C.'s Like a Graveyard" to "Who's Got the Crack". I fucking love them.

Wow, I just listened to two more of her songs on the website "I Like Giants" and "Loose Lips". I think I am fully into Kimya Dawson now.

I realise with one of her many great lyrics, "send me an IM, i'll be your friend" that not enough people write about instant messaging in their songs!

And I watched the video The Moldy Peaches had on their website, Lucky Number Nine. They have awesome lyrics and it's just fun stuff.

I reckon this is great cheering up music.

It totally is. I don't remember, does AIM let me send files to you? If it does I can send you a bunch of Moldy Peaches songs. I love sharing them.

I listened to some of the live recordings(are they all live?)

Pretty fun to listen to. I'll probably buy something.

I think she just records everything live, but I'm not sure. I don't own any of her albums yet, but I'll probably get one when I go see her.

EDIT: Okay so you know how I was going to see her on Wednesday? Looks like I'm not. Two days after that Read Yellow show, my friend Bin got a fever and a lovely case of pinkeye. I got the fever for like one day, but no pinkeye. Now I have the pinkeye and no fever. Motherfuck. I'd go anyway, except I'm not a fucking asshole like whoever went to that Read Yellow show with the damn thing and got us sick in the first place.

Anyway, the moral of this story: Read Yellow shows are so good, it's worth going even if you get pinkeye. If you already have pinkeye, though, don't go to a fucking show. Man, if I could meet the asshole who I got this from.

What's with all the pinkeye right now? I just got over it myself and I know at least half a dozen people who've had it recently. :(

I hadn't heard of any epidemics, but I guess there's something making its way across the country?

I just hope it goes away quickly. It's not the itchiness that bothers me, it's just being so afraid to touch anything. Like, anything. Like I'm afraid to open doors for fear that I'll spread pinkeye to the rest of my family via the doorknobs.

Whatever. I don't know how often Kimya tours but hopefully she'll come around again. It's not a huge deal. As long as I'm recovered in time for Eisley. Which is in like two weeks, so I pretty well oughta be.
