This is a great series of albums. The NHK Special: The Universe Within was a multi-part TV series and Joe Hisaishi was enlisted to do the soundtracks.

All in all, there are 9 albums. I have been slowly obtaining these over the years, scouring sources and buying what would show up on eBay and Amazon.jp if they were reasonable prices. The style is heavy synthesizer and electronic music, this sounds nothing like Hiyao Miyazaki or Takeshi Kitano collaborations.
