I came across this soundtrack, in MP3 form, here on ffshrine and thought it was great. I had never heard of this movie. Due to the music I sought out the movie (you CAN buy it at Best Buy) and it was stunning. This was very much like a Miyazaki/Hisaishi experience, where the music was half the story just as much as the animation. So I sought out the album, and had to enlist the help of someone who spoke Chinese to jump through all the hoops to get this album. The only downside to the soundtrack is that many of the songs are very short. They work fine in the context of the movie during the scene they are used in, but they end all too quickly when just listening to the album. But at 41 tracks, it takes a while to get through it.
Since this movie was released in North America this year (2018), I really hope it gets nominated for an Oscar in Animation or Foreign Film. Doubt it will, but it is one of the best animations I have seen recently.
The only other album I have heard by this composer is Kaiba, which has a couple interesting pieces on it, but the songs are very short as well.
