Where are the best places to level up?

Especially nearer the beginning of your world map travels..

you could fight that marsh snake thingy, cant remember it's name, 'The Midgar Serpant' or something like that.

i once got killed outside of Wutai pretty early in the game, my fault for being cocky and not using magic :P

The Midgar Zolom gives you near to nothing for exp. Early on, the best way to level up is to set off the alarm in the little tunnel at Junon. After doing so, you can fight some pretty difficult machines for a very generous amount of exp. I reccomend you get Aqualung from the enemies in the desert around Gold Saucer (it's an enemy skill) and then go to Junon to level up.

I have one for the very beginning, just after you jump off the train....
go down the tunnel instead of up, and you'll find 2 guards....it'll say something like"oh no, shinra guards, might be dangerous here..." just move towards them, and that'll trigger a fight....after every battle it will say.....
"There are more ShinRa Soldiers coming....
Run
Stay here"
just keep going stay here....unless you need to cure urself.....i stayed there till i was lvl 20.....

Really? Jesus, didn't know that!

Also which part in the game at Junon can I set off the alarm? I am there now at the bit where you have to do the parade and can't set it off... I'm assuming it has to be later in the game?

Alright no worries found it!

I have to recommend to anyone reading this though to level up in the tunnel at Junon!

Cloud, Barret were on level 25 and about 950hp each, where Aeris was on level 19 and about 650hp..

I just spent the last half an hour getting battles there and Cloud and Barret are now on about level 37 each, and have around 2000hp each. Aeris is now on about level 32 and has about 1600hp!

All that in just HALF AN HOUR.

Thanks for the tip guys.

You're quite welcome. Did you get Aqualung like I suggested? If so, it's fine, but remember to get it when you first go to Gold Saucer.

Note: I'm afraid that you will be a bit disappointed by the next boss you fight...

What do you mean?

They'll all be well too easy from now on because of how high my levels are? =)

If so, I'm prepared. I know Jenova on the boat isn't a particularly hard boss, but on this game I managed to beat her in about 6-7 turns without actually losing any HP! :-D She only cast stop, but that missed!

i suggest kalm (to about level 25), costa del sol (along the beach, to about level 35), and north corel (if you have been training you should have defeated enough enemies to have your first limit break in levels 2 and 3, so fight bombs on the bridge and get your second limit break in each level, that way you can use level 4 limit breaks when you get them, and you should also be strong enough at this point to take a bomb blast, just remember to use cure when you need to)

The easiest way to get second limit break in a level is to use hypers on your characters and give them fury. Your limit meter will fill twice as fast. Levelling up on the monsters in Junon with Aqualung is probably the best you can do at that point.

After level 60, the best way to level up is against magic pots in the left path in the crater.
