HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Greetings folks! I hope you've had a very fine Independence Day. If you're from a foreign country, then hopefully the day has proven to be nice anyway. What I have here today is something that I've been working on for quite a while. It wasn't something that I planned on going very far with, but personal circumstances and general encouragement from friends has pushed me to where I'm at today. Hopefully you'll find much to enjoy here.

Spider-Man 3 is one of those films that certainly deserves the moniker of a "mixed bag" film. There's certainly many aspects going for it, but it ends up being bogged down by a few elements that likely were the results of studio mandates and seemingly odd creative choices. Despite this, it seems all people want to remember are the negative aspects, considering they're much more prevalent compared to the previous 2 films. And I can certainly understand that, seeing as it is under the shadow of its predecessor, which is considered one of the greatest superhero movies of all time. However, I do think that it has good aspects worth talking about. The best one being what we're here for.

The score I think is absolutely phenomenal. Christopher Young brings in every skill he has as a composer to the forefront. Being that this likely will be the biggest film he'll have in his portfolio, he gives it 110%. He is very respectful to the main hero and villain themes that Danny Elfman created, and uses them in unique ways throughout. The new themes are an instant hit, and arguably are much more complex than anything that came before. The general mood and atmosphere are unlike what you'll often see in superhero scores before and after. Heck, even the replacement cues by Deborah Lurie and John Debney are very solid on their own, having distinct styles and fitting the scenes they're for very well. I don't just think this is one of the best superhero scores out there. I honestly do believe that this is my favorite score.

SO, here's what I'm showing:

1). The Custom Archival Edition

Having work started on literally 10 years after the release of the film, this set represents everything we can possibly get about the score. Many cues, alternates, edits, inserts, and mixes are here. There's so much that it ended up rounding out to about 156 cues. Yeah, crazy, right? Now, I know that the overall organization might be a clusterfuck, but I approached this under the mindset that everything would be displayed evenly. So for the first two discs, I chose the most major versions of each cue, so that people can get a good grasp of what the score went through at various phases, as well as the best overall versions. Then the last two discs is literally everything else available, with differences that either were too subtle or just didn't fit the main set in my eyes. However, should the organization not be up to your standards, that's OK. Because this set is designed to be customizable. You can put things wherever you want, or even delete stuff. The choice is yours! :D For those who want a semi-accurate film presentation based on whichever preferred cut, a more straight forward sessions presentation, or a concise list of what each composer did, I've included .m3u playlists for those particular needs.

2). Restructured OST

Well, you decided that the previous set prove too much of a mess to go through, and wanted a more simpler and concise set that shows a lot of the score's stronger qualities. For that, I have just the set for you! Having the goal of reducing Elfman's influence, this set highlights all the new themes Chris Young created, and makes a listening experience that stands very well on its own, without watching the film. Now, I had planned on getting rid of every single instance of Elfman's themes, but two ended up slipping through the cracks. However, despite this, they manage to blend in very well with everything else that is here. This is something that I'm very proud of, and I hope you consider giving it a listen!

An honorary credit goes to SonicAdventure (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=488241), who graciously allowed his own Deluxe Edition (Thread 197942) to be used for my Restructured set. Further credit goes to Vosk on providing some of the material here. One last thanks goes to the gus bus (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=390406), for just being an all around cool dude. :D

Come back soon for an update that breaks down everything involved for the first set! :)

Update (07-05-18): Replaced two (http://www.mediafire.com/file/5f6a68h4x46hiw1/24._4M38_MJ_Visits_Harry_%2528Theatrical_Edit%2529 .flac/file) cues (http://www.mediafire.com/file/bu6gqa0slubgb1s/27._5M42_MJ_%2526_Peter_Break_Up_%2528Theatrical_E dit%2529.flac/file) on the CAE set. Also moved "1M5a Film Ending" to the SFX section on Disc 4 to accommodate the previous change, as well as be a bit more accurate about its contents. The track list is updated to reflect this.

Update (09-04-18): Added (http://www.mediafire.com/file/hq8ddcus6nibhdw/SM3_extra.rar/file) 6 files and replaced one of them. Updated the description and track list to reflect these changes, as well as other corrections and small additions. Additionally, I added a "Sessions" styled playlist, for the crazy people who wanted to hear every single version of each cue after each other. I also decided to change the archive file format from RAR to ZIP, to make things easier for those who are having extraction issues. Lastly, I finally credited SA (sorry for taking this long) and gus.

Update (02-08-19): Added one (https://www.mediafire.com/file/du0ee3uby5r25m1/01._1M1_Main_Title_%28Album_Mix%29.flac/file) version, changed (https://www.mediafire.com/file/9iga08vg261l5za/36._6M52b_DL_Aunt_May%27s_Ring_%28Demo%29.flac/file) three (https://www.mediafire.com/file/vjbcpqba4cvnmgx/38._6M54_DL_Peter_at_MJ%27s_Window_%28Alt.%29.flac/file) files (https://www.mediafire.com/file/wx2y6p66240gl48/31._%5BSFX%5D_1M7_Daughter_Gives_Flint_Locket_%28E ditor%27s_Cut_Version%29.flac/file), and deleted a cue I deemed superfluous. Because of the addition of said version replacing what's on the main set, another shift in the track listing is made. For that, move the other version to the second disc, and change the subtitle to "Promo Mix." A further shift in the track listing is made on the third disc (6M54 Alt. is changed to Alt. Take, and the Alt. 2 is just made the alt, and both tracks switch places). The Vosk credit is also accounted for now, finishing the total amount of people associated with the project. Though I recommend deleting the one cue (6M55 Film Version), you can feel free to keep it if you want. I just like the 156 total is all. :D

Thank you! A score that has always been close to my heart but I never really got closure on. Your treatment is nearly definitive. such a treat!

very curious - the elusive cues that always seemed to be missing (opening montage, pt 1 of newscast, etc), WHERE did you find them? if they are your edits, they are impeccable. they sound like near studio masters. or did i miss a new leak?

You're welcome! Even as a child, the score had such an impact on me, so I'm certainly happy with all that we have.

And yes, those elusive cues are edits, which I'll get to describing eventually.

Nice update bro I am really digging this share. It's phenomenal. Keep the updates coming. Plus you saved many people plenty of time and work trying to compile a complete score (as heard in the film).

For the 2 new tracks are they meant to replace the sfx versions of the corresponding tracks on disc 4? Or is it meant to be an add on?

This seems like great work! I wasn't as enthralled with Young's score as I was with Elfman's, but I've wanted a version of this score for over a decade now; this seems perfect! However, I've downloaded both files multiple times and am being told 7_zip is unable to open as an archive.

Young's contributions are far superior to Elfman's, in my opinion.

Thank you so much for this set. This is truly the definitive version of the Spider-Man 3 score. In all honesty, Spider-Man 3 is my favorite of the trilogy (unpopular opinion), and its music is downright amazing. This is my favorite superhero score along with John Williams's Superman. Anyone else getting a corrupted file error? I'd really love to hear this work, but every time I've downloaded the CAE it seems to be a broken archive.

The links for The Custom Archival Edition and Reconstructed OST are not letting me enter the password. It just says error occurred during processing. Apparently, it's either damaged or broken. Why is that?

I think it might have something to do with the program extracting the files, as it extracts fine for me.

It shouldn't matter though, as I am actually planning on updating the set soon. :D

(for the post above) I use the unarchiver to be able to put in the password on my Mac. I cannot use 7extractor because I'd get the same error as it does not allow for me to enter the password, so its probably the program you're using. I hope that helps.

Huntertech - OMG!!!! I am looking forward to the update brother,

Finally updated the files and the description! Hopefully the files shouldn't have any issues extracting (especially since I made sure to copy and paste the PW from the description). I should say that a lot of the added files are more made to make the film listening experience on those playlists a bit smoother. As well as give an idea as to how some cues might be reformatted for different scenes. 1M1 Film Mix was changed to to have the center channel dialed down by -3 db, as per advice by JHFan (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=271489). Makes it sound a bit better, though I'm still not too happy with the overall mixing.

I should also say that I've considered revising the Restructured set, primarily because I think the Final Battle section is too truncated. But also because I did want to make some of the themes to have a stronger presence. I have some ideas as to how to implement these, but I haven't tackled anything yet, as I was finishing the files for the other set. Probably will see in a few days.

And yes, I still will do the breakdown eventually. I've become busy recently, so it's hard to put aside the time to write it down.

I'm wondering if theres enough versions of the apartment fight track with the stings to make the directors cut version of celebratory swing when he has the black suit after leaving the daily bugle. Also I just realized, you can combine Peter leaves a message by John denney together with Peter turmoil to make the full version of cake girl from spider-man 2. This set continues to amaze me. splendid work by all involved.

Is this the last update? Or do you plan on updating in the future once cleaner versions of the sfx tracks are obtained? :) Again amazing work and compilation. I know how much time and effort has already been invested to get everything to be perfect so. amazing work.

I came here hunting for the music that played when Peter was in shower.
I must say this is one of the most thorough releases I've seen for the last ten years of collecting scores and I definitely getting sucked in into listening every other composition in this collection.

HunterTech - my huge respect for such a great job. Thanks a lot.

Updated once more! I'll admit this particular one primarily came from making an accidental discovery (in that the actual album mix of 1M1 has the bass hits during the Black Spidey segment, which the previous one (now called the "Promo Mix") didn't. Certainly explained why it felt a bit hollow to me. Also would like to give small thanks to GoodMusician (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=208173) for helping clarify the DL alts for 6M54, as I was unsure as how to label them.

Anyway, I'm happy this set this proceeds to still inject joy into those who love this score. I'd still like to clear things up in the post I'm still planning on making, but when life keeps you busy, it's just difficult. Either way, here's to a happy 2019!

Thanks for the update, Hunter. Nice to see you still working on this project - here's hoping one day, that between all the versions I've collected (takehiro, scorepranos, SonicAdventure and yours) there'll be one definitive be-all, end-all version. For certain now I can say it's just as complex as finding a definitive cut of the original Blade Runner.

I was searching for a list of the cues that Deborah Lurie composed to tag properly my files and I found that I missed this release!

Thank you!
