Well, here it is, on the same day of release, a gamerip of Ni no Kuni 2 by the magnificent Joe Hisaishi. With a PC release making it a bit easier to do gamerips, it was bound to happen, right? But someone had to do it. And me being a major fan of the soundtrack in this game, and the game itself, surpassing the original, I believe, I had to do it. You best believe the first thing I did after playing the game a bit was to check the sound files and see if I could get the music out of them. I was able to, thanks to VGMToolbox, but I couldn't get to extract the music out of the bin files, however Vector Hector helped me and did a trick and got the original music to be played with foobar2000 and uploaded it himself (the link is his).. I gave the sound files from my own copy of the game, but he "transformed" them into music so I give him credit for that.

I seriously adore the music in this game, it's much more cinematic and surpasses the first in my opinion. I implore you all to give it a listen, it's fantastic. And even lossless to boot, possibly? Foobar2000 says it goes beyond 700kbps and the game itself says it uses DTS-HD for audio. I hope you all enjoy this as much as me, and now we just need someone to work on this and apply the finishing touches and tag and order the music properly.

Sweet reminder you need to have foobar2000 to play the music, and the vgm add-on. Also, the music is multichannel (6ch.) That's all I have to say. Now please enjoy it as much as I did.

ENJOY AWAY. THANKS TO VECTOR FOR THE UPLOAD AND HELP.

Foobar2000 with the vgmstream add-on.

The upload isn't mine; but I'm just doubting about converting because it doubles the size, besides, the rip isn't tagged at all.

HCA is a highly compressed format, that's why it explodes in size when converting it to a different format.

The FLAC is huge, about 2.1 GB. I've uploaded it to Mega, it's still untagged though. Once I have the game files on my PC I'll dig around to see if there's any titles hidden somewhere, but I don't know how much luck I'll have.

I've added your link to the first post, thanks. But in a way, it's still lossless kinda because it goes further than 700kbps, I should check the Spek and see if it's sonically lossless, at least, somewhat. Though if someone's making an edit, more compressing is gonna be had, because 2.1 GB is just too much for 64 tracks even if I love this music, it's basic 16bit 48 otherwise I'd understand the bloat.

Hey I've download, wonderful soundtrack even better than the first!

However I managed to check that is a true lossless, analized with spectro. It is 2.10GB because you leaved 6 channels and 16/48kHz, I downscaled with foobar2000+SoX resampler+Downmix to stereo.

So now it is 900MB, lossless, 2 channels, 16/44.1kHz.

You can ask me to upload if you want, or tell you the process to do it correctly in foobar if you want!

So i upload a ogg vorbis conversion for those who want to download the music but without being 2.1 GB. It's 1.20 GB, sure it's still take a lot of space but it's due to the 6 channel at once. I have no idea what they are. But i thought it could be nice to still have it if you need to make your own mix.

Glad to hear it's true lossless alright, again given that the sound codecs used in the game are DTS-HD and Dolby Audio I was hoping for it. Glad you're enjoying and I too agree it is miles better than the first, Hisaishi surpassed himself. Also, yeah, thanks to friends I found out the FLAC conversion is so heavy because of the 6 channels. Thank you for the conversion idea, however, I'm not sure if the foobar automatized version will be good. Two friends of mine are gonna work on a proper, manual stereo conversion mix based on how the music sounds in trailers, videos, and whatever. Apparently the 6 ch mix isn't too good, sonic wise. But if you want to upload it for comparison or whatever, feel free.

Thanks for the alternative, anything works, the more alternatives for people to enjoy, the better! But as I said to the other guy me and a friend of mine are gonna try and see if we can do a good stereo mix based on how the music sound in official trailers and videos. Let's hope we're succesful and make a good sounding mix. :)

Alright, thanks to the kind help of TheSkeletonMan939 and JHFan, I was able to get a good manual stereo downmix of the gamerip, still untagged, in FLAC. Weights now just about 878 MB, which is reasonable. Now all that's left to do is give some final checking.. and well.. try to play the game and get acquainted with the music, the order and the names, because someone's gotta tag it and it seems that I'm the only one who owns the game and wants to play so.. but until then.. for anyone who doesn't mind about tags, it's there.

It's a normal 6 channel mix (two fronts, a center, lfe, two rears/sides) but it's done rather shoddily. The LFE channel doesn't have what you would normally consider LFE; it seems to be just matrixed with a lowpass filter, as opposed to bearing the subtle BOOMs and THOOMs you would hear in a proper LFE track. You can even make out instruments in this LFE, which is just silly.
I've passed on a stereo mix to Ponyo for him to tag with track titles. I removed the LFE channel, and reduced the volume of the center (which I believe should always be lowered regardless of circumstance) & of the rears/sides in relation to the fronts. I think this gives the music a better stereo quality than the Foobar downfold, which had the center channel overpowering things a bit too much.
Videos like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LljQQlf3BQg) were used as a guide for how the music "should" sound, but it's not like there's drastic difference between that and the normal downmix anyway. The goal was just to give the music a nice stereo presence which the straight downmix didn't quite give.

It's a pleasure to bring it to you, but I don't wanna take all the credit; I simply provided the files. Vector Harbor helped me extract the music; JHFan and TheSkeletonMan939 helped me make a stereo mix, and other people in this thread helped to bring mirrors for more options.

The game being released in PC made it a bit easier, but as much as I love this gamerip I can't wait for an official CD soundtrack. So far, all there is, is a very expensive CD included in the US collector's edition and no one has ripped it yet.

Wait, wait, where'd you get that info?

Edit: Ahh, from the game? Is there an in-game jukebox then? Is it in order perhaps?

Now we just need an order.. and perhaps composer breakdown? And I can finalize..

The numerical file names are not the order they are in the game.

The only thing I haven't cleared yet is the optional final dungeon, so I don't know if the last sheet music comes from that as a reward or what. I've finished off every other sidequest in the game that gives them as a reward. Could be I've missed a chest in the open world that has it or something.

Thanks again for this wonderful contribution!!!
After 1 or 2 listening I can say that is clearly the best new composition that I have listening in months (as usual with Hisaishi)
It is a pity that we have to listen to this amazing music through these methods (no official releases, game-rip,...) and sound qualities, but hey...I guess this is the world we live in today!

Now that the OST is out, you still gonna do that? I would appreciate it, It really bothers me that only Joe's work gets proper official releases. Rei Kondoh(Okami,Bayonetta) is a great composer and I love his additional music for NNK1, and NNK2's additional music by Level-5's in-house musician Kenichiro Saigo(The Yo-Kai Watch composer) is also great stuff, I love Sky Pirate Base, but I guess since they're not the legendary Joe Hisaishi than they're just irrelevant peasants that don't deserve to be recognized for their work >:|
