Original score by Dominic Frontiere
Original Broadcast 10/14/1963

"An experiment too soon, too swift. And yet, may we not still hope to discover
a method by which within one generation the whole human race could be rendered intelligent?
Beyond hatred or revenge or the desire for power. Is that not afterall the utlimate goal of evolution?"

SYNOPSIS

A brilliant geneticist from London, Professor Mathers (Edward Mulhare), has come to a tiny Welsh mining
village to study the theories of evolution. When young Cathy Evans (Jill Haworth) comes to deliver his
bread, she finds he needs a test subject for a groundbreaking experiment, and suggests her friend
Gwyllm Griffiths (David McCallum), who has just been fired from his job in the mine for causing trouble.

The experiment works marvelously, making him far more intelligent, and thirsty for more knowledge.
But when he wants to continue into the future of mankind’s mental progression, he turns into a being
with frightening telekinetic powers, and an even more frightening disregard for human life.

THE SOUNDTRACK

For all of you Outer Limits fans, this is another of my re-created soundtracks.
Source material is again from a CDs, a DVDrip and a number of re-mixes to recreate the exact sound of
the TV soundtrack, bar by bar.

“The Sixth Finger” features another orchestral soundtrack by Dominic Frontiere.
This particular episode though, utilizes many tracks from Frontiere's other shows.
The Outer Limits episodes "100 Days Of The Dragon", "The Human Factor" and "The Borderland"
provided reused cues for this episode. And yes, some tracks are repeated.
You may also notice that almost every time Cathy interacts with Gwyllm,
the track 'Coffee Time' from 'Controlled Experiment' can be heard.

Please note, I was not able to find any clean source for track "01 Teaser".
Track "01 Teaser" is taken from Stoney Burke's 'Point Of Entry' episode entitled 'The Sniper Misses Anna'.
Even the soundtrack to this "Stoney Burke" episode is riddled with FX.
As a consequence, the track is included verbatim.

As an added bonus, I've included Glenn Gould's complete recordings of Johann Sebastian Bach's
Prelude No. 2 in C Minor,
Prelude No. 5 in D Major,
Fugue No. 5 in D Major and
Prelude No. 1 in C Major.
These were used in that wonderful scene (tacked on by Joe Stefano) where the Professor is awakened at night and Gwyllm is heard playing the piano. He gives us the memorable line "Bach will quite probably outlive us all"!

Not a bad sound track, but certainly worth listening too.
Enjoy.
