Totally agree.
But I have to say: let's watch the film before giving a definitive opinion on the score. It is still possible that the film's nature was so diverse that the score needed to follow that change.
Maybe the film needed every bit of what Zimmer & Wallfisch did. Or maybe not, that's only one way to discover that.
At least, that's what I'm going to do.
In the film it worked perfectly, at least for me, and mixed with the stunning visuals (holy shit, that Roger Deakins!!!) it's a very captivating movie. I loved it and even if it's not superior to the original I would say they are near the same level. Denis Villenueve knows how to make good movies.

Feel the complete opposite unless you're being sarcastic.
Damn, that youngster Zimmer and his lack of talent!
No sarcasm.
Zimmer is an abomination.
And gets worst over time.
Very impressive indeed.

That's what I hope it will be...
...and this is what I fear it is.
As for the characters... that's the same thing I'd say about the original film.
Totally agree on this. Johannsson would surely be more "quiet" and moody as the original. Probably not as iconic, but surely not the explosions of annoying noises like some cues of Zimmer & Wallfisch are.
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS WORK. That's how the score should have been.
May you post it in a new thread in high quality?
That would be perfect.
Wow thanks! Seriously I’m flattered but I don’t think I pocess the gift of scoring haha
Yeah I could do, where would i do that? Upload a higher quality on on YouTube or just upload the file via snedspace etc?

As of today, the film has bombed in the box office. The length of the film, the
limited details of plot, and the simple fact that it is a 35 year old sequel seems
to have shot it in the foot no matter how glorious the reviews. Evidently
only older men are seeing it. Women and the children of today- who have
been weened on comic book explosions- aren't paying out the bucks. Very odd.
Who would have thought? No one seems concerned about the dud score.

I have a strong suspicion that the firing of Johannsson had nothing to do with his score being incompatible for the film, but probably a studio decision because they wanted a "big name" composer who sells lots of CDs. Johannsson's previous scores are not that dissimilar from what ended in up being composed by Zimmer and Walfisch. In fact, there are some pieces of music that Zimmer and Walfisch did that sound very close to music from Sicario and Arrival.

This could be very true, but we'll most likely never know. JJ is contractually obligated to keep his mouth shut on the whole thing.

I don't think so. Yes, Sicario and Arrival had some loud moments... in an otherwise quite score. It was self-contained and "quiet", unlike what can be heard in the album by Wallfisch and Zimmer.
Yes, probably there was also a factior of the "big name" composer, but I think this firing didn't happen without Denis Villeneuve's approval. Or, at least, I hope so.
You don't know how much I'd love to hear what Johannsson did for the film...

I'd say if JJ works with Villeneuve again in the future, things are ok between them and maybe he really was let go simply because it just wasn't working. However, HZ being involved wouldn't be the first time he replaced someone because he sells more.

Great share. Worst score. Zimmer fails the litmus test: a soundtrack is good if it's listenable on its own. "Hijack" tells you all you need to know, but there's also "Sea Wall". Even harsh sounds ought to be kept at a listenable distance, right? I'm not crazy?

Saw the film and thought it was just ok, as it was a bit long and slow for my liking (but I felt similarly about the original, too)... but I have zero interest in listening to that awful score again! People can argue that it suited the film, but quite honestly I struggle to call it "music" as it just sounds more like sound design. How anyone would want to pay money for a 2CD edition of this 'score' is beyond me. I don't come here for music-less scores that might work in the film, I come here for enriching and emotionally satisfying MUSIC. Does anyone here remember when Zimmer used to write beautiful and memorable themes in his scores? It seems like each year he loses more and more of his talent in writing memorable music.

I may be in the minority here but I found this movie a much more satisfying experience as compared to the original. I was never a huge fan of the original (except for its superlative visual and aural complexity and the themes it explored) because of the uninteresting story and a dull protagonist. Roy Batty was very interesting but he had those shades of grey that didn't connect me to his plight in spite of the ending monologue. I never felt anything for Deckard throughout the film and his love story with Rachel was sorely lacking an emotional connect. Blade Runner 2049 is superior to the original in this regard where K's journey was emotionally rewarding and took its time to establish that connection with the audience. His relationship with Joi was poignant and his encounter with her purple hologram towards the end was responsible in making him more human than human. Even though the soundtrack pales in comparison with Vangelis' much superior work, I loved the way Wallfisch used K's theme throughout the movie (especially in 2049 and it's heroic and redemptive version in Sea Wall). He may or may not have been special but he did a special thing - dying for a worthy cause by saving Deckard (much like Roy Batty). Blade Runner 2049 won't be as influential as the original but it certainly is a special movie and best sequel I've seen in ages. Nobody wanted a sequel to a cult favorite and there were so many ways that this could have gone terribly wrong, but Denis Villenueve gave us a special movie with a soul - just like K (or Joe).

Hey man... that's kinda spoilerous on 2049. Unfortunately, not everyone have still watched the film (unless I'm the only one).
You should put a spoiler warning or edit the thing away :)

If that rating is just for the 'score', then I think they're being generous. It may work in the film, but there is nothing here worth listening to separately.

Not wrong... just my opinion, and you don't have to share it.
But fill me in... what about it makes you want to listen to it outside of the film? To me, there was nothing melodious or harmonious about it, nor anything satisfying with the percussion and electronica. Overall it just sounded like some soulless mechanical drone, so I'm curious what would make someone want to put this on.

It has no melody, no sweeping vistas, no melancholy, no romance, no pathos, no REAL instruments as in the 82 film... no love.... just a sonic attack that left my head pounding. Of course for those who found joy in this score, I envy you very much.

PPS: some tracks don't sound too good (distortions, hissing). I guess mastering was not good (both CD and WEB versions sound the same), but at least all tracks aren't like that.
