ALIKI MY LOVE, a 1963 Greek-British co-production, filmed on the beautiful Hellenic island of Ios, starred Wilfred Hyde-White, Jess Conrad and one of the stage and screen’s most talented and beautiful actresses, Aliki Vougiouklaki. Aliki, born in Maroussi Attikis, Hellas, a renowned stage and screen actress well beyond the borders of her native Greece, was the first Greek actress to be paid one million drachmas for her film roles and was also fluent in English, Italian and French. She was also an excellent singer who performed in many musical roles on the stage worldwide and Laurence Oliver called her portrayal of Eva Per�n in the Rice-Webber musical Evita, in 1981, as "the best Evita I have ever seen". The soundtrack music for ALIKI MY LOVE was composed by Manos Hadjidakis, who had achieved worldwide fame 3 years earlier for his fantastic score for NEVER ON SUNDAY (for which Hadjidakis won the 1960 Academy Award). His score for ALIKI MY LOVE is a total delight and this download presents the original LP program in much improved sound. The original monaural tracks were DSD archived and remastered using the extraction process which allows monaural recordings to play properly on the two speakers & headphone systems in use today. There was a fake stereo release (the score was recorded in monaural only) of this soundtrack in the USA, but that LP was not even considered for this remaster since it sounded terrible. Because the score for ALIKI MY LOVE is short (32 minutes) this download is in the high resolution WAVE format, dithered directly from the DSD master file. I hope you enjoy this seldom heard score featuring the superb melodies of Manos Hadjidakis, inspired by the beauty and talent of the fabulous Aliki Vougiouklaki, both of whom are modern day Greek treasures.
