Thank you so much, Hikaru.

Archives this big are better separated into parts that can be opened and processed individually. I need 7.4 GB free space to download + another at least 7.4 GB free space to extract, all at once.

Wow, Mega sucks! Transfer limit, continue 6 hours later; have to sign in to download over 200 MBs.

Why is MEGA giving troubles to you guys? The free download quota should be enough for this archive. But yeah i admit it's stupid...
It popped up at about 5 GB, I couldn't finish part 5.

Thank you!

I'm curious about a couple of things:
- The mp3 rip seems to have small cracks/blips in most of the songs.
- I haven't tried the FLAC rip, but does it make sense to have a FLAC rip when the blu ray source material is high res but most likely lossy (DTS/AC3)?

Blu-ray audio is typically not lossy. Square Enix Blu-ray soundtracks are in stereo PCM.

However, spectral shows a cut-off at 24kHz, which means this is really 24bit-48kHz. So there's an awful lot of wasted space.

Wow, how smartly produced. Or totally not purposely misleading "96 kHz".

Good to know the former, unfortunately not surprised about the later. :/

I don't think it's unlikely that the producers up-converted them from 16 bit with added gain either, but that's a tougher one to figure out.

Extract the RAR, too, the music is in there. On Mega, don't choose "download as zip" if it's already an archive like RAR or 7zip or if there are few files. The only point I can think of in downloading as zip is if there are many non-archived files, for example dozens of mp3s.

Yep.

When a thing like that happens, I make a reconversion to 24/48 or 24/64. It's normal in BDs and I'm used to it (the FF 14 soundtracks in BD are exactly like this).

Exactly what I did. Saves a little over 2 gigs of space.

Honestly not a fan of SE's Blu-ray releases for this reason, but if it's the only way to get lossless quality files, so be it. At least the dynamics of the lossless files aren't more squashed than the MP3s like on FFX-HD. (Although certainly more squashed than the original OST.)

Overall, I still think the Zodiac Age is an improvement and am grateful for its release (and the share, of course).

About the WEB Version:

I've searched on many of english, japanese and chinese sites for the digital version in the last weeks. But it seems that it is only available at tsdm.me and I don't know how that commuinty works. Besides that on mora.jp, too of course but you can't pay with paypal.

But my question to that case: The digital version has only 99 tracks and the rip has 102 tracks. So why the digital version? Anyone knows something definitely about better quality?

The digital is upscale to 99khz but the quality is only around 48 khz , 24 bit so they are same with BD . The Digital missing 3 unrelease track so you better get BD

You dont need to get untouchted version becasue it is just upscale quality . The quality of soundtrack is actually 24bit/48khz but Square Enix upscale it so you gain nothing from it but waste of space .

In short this version that I am upload have the same quality with Hikari version but it is better becasue it has smaller size . If you prefer original you can just convert it to 96khz by yourself

darkarth
08-08-2018, 06:25 AM
I know all of this. I've read the whole thread. Maybe that's not a rational thing to you but I never get why smaller size can be "better quality" than a untouched version. I think everyone should decide by himself if he want to downsample something and at least space doesn't cost that much money anymore. I always try to get an original from its source and only listen to wav just be sure that no one made a mistake.

Or in other words: My philosophy is that I want to listen to music like the artists imagined to and to me that is a part of it.
