Read this first. (http://www.cnn.com/2005/BUSINESS/03/27/japan.sonysuit.reut/index.html)

The most interesting part of this is probably that the suit was originally filed against both Sony and Microsoft, but Microsoft settled out of court. They then went on to buy a majority interest in Immersion Corp. and push the lawsuit against Sony even harder.

Sony's pretty much pwned.

Yeah, I read about this in a magazine just earlier today. Serves Snoy right for sucking!

The thing I'm wondering is why they aren't going after Nintendo. They have rumble stuff in their controllers too.

Erm...Nintendo invented it, as far as I know. It's probably that Sony and Microsoft ripped off Immersion's design.

I wouldn't say that, $90 Million isn't that much to one of richest companies in the world.

yeah.

sony are fucked. microsoft should've been too! but they used evil monopolous ways.

it's not likely to stop anything though- more likely, Sony will just start paying the licensing fees to Immersion. I think the worst that'll happen in PS2s stop being sold or a couple of months. =/

Nintendo didn't invent it, but they didn't use Immersion's tech either, I think. Someone else mentioned that they did use it, but they licensed it like you're supposed to.

How many people actually use that particular feature, though? I typically disable the vibration function in the options on any given game anyway.

Also, it's not as though there are that many different ways to make the feedback feature work in sync with certain actions in a given bit of software.

Alice is a controller whore.

Sony makes billions of dollars off their tv's, cd players, remotes, etc.

This will be like a penny to you fuckers.

I was working tonight and some guy came up to me and asked me a question about the lawsuit. I had no clue what he was talking about, but now I do!

Sony has duelshock controlers
one rumble pack on each side, left and right
if u hit a wall in a racing game and the wall is on the right, ur right side of the controller shakes.

Thanks for that comment

Also

Why should sony pay up, just because they took a dual shock idea and had it for their own, it's not as if nintendo or microsoft havnt stolen any ideas before, right?

Just for the record, since off-the-wall comments are going here. I just bought a PSP yesterday, and it's fucking awesome for a handheld.

I'm suprised Microsoft didn't just take over Immersion. Seems like that's what they usually do when they have a problem with another company.
