This is from what I think was the last film collaboration between Jacques Demy and Michel Legrand. It starred Yves Montand as a successful musical stage actor who goes back to his home town to do a big autobiographical show (and as this is within a semi-autobiographical show...it's very Inception :) Of course he meets a young woman who auditions for the lead female part. Of course he falls in love with her and is about to take her to bed in typical French/Demy fashion (involving a musical number), and of course in typical French/Demy fashion it turns out to be his daughter (did I mention this is a semi-autobiographical show?)
The music is a weird mix of vintage Legrand and 80s pop overlays (especially in "La Perfumerie" and "Interview" - the latter of which sounds like a-Ha should break into "Take On Me" at any moment)
