Note: For this edition, I opted to use two sources: the More Music album and the lossy MP3 bootleg that's been floating around for years. For the base, I opted to use the More Music album as it featured MOST of Newman's music in what I assume to be lossless quality. There's a few uses of lossy sources to complete the set as is notated below in the track listing. The cue "Get Off My Plane" is missing the entire second half of that cue on the lossless source and considering it was such fun material, I felt it a travesty to leave it off. What's more mind-boggling is the lossless album's entire excision of the very last cue "The MiG Attack" which is an exciting way to end the album, even though I admit that every time the cue ends I keep forgetting it's the end of the album and feel a little disappointed that it doesn't keep going. I'm willing to bet that the hour of music included here is all that Newman may have been allowed to record so until something comes along to prove me wrong, this will have to do.
I don't know if I'm alone but I absolutely adore this score. I can understand why it was removed but that aside, I really enjoy what Newman tried to do here. I can't go without mentioning that the only cue that unintentionally makes me chuckle every time is "Welcome to AFO". It comes across as a little kitcshy to me and president-elect Donald Trump should've used that for his entrance music instead of the superior Goldsmith theme because the kitschiness of Newman's version fits the disaster that is the Trump adminstration's humorous overtones more efficiently. That one cue aside, there's some fantastic action material on display here. Newman was definitely channeling his inner Horner in this score.
If anyone can make some high-res artwork, that'd be GREAT! There's virtually nothing for Newman's score, only Goldsmith's. Thanks in advance and enjoy!
