I don't know if many members here actually use or even care a tiny bit about the IMDB message boards, but last week IMDB announced their permanent shutdown.
And it's pretty devastating to think about all those gazillions of threads and discussions getting lost forever. It was my primary source of information. I mean, real information, beside the curated trivia section and other official data.
It was a go-to-place for obscure questions and opinions, a one-of-a-kind platform with a small unique talking spot for each and any person, title, episode or whatsoever.
And those bastards are just flushing it down the toilet, it's downright ridiculous! I'd really like to hammer it into their narrow-minded, heartless faces, bull-fucking-shit!
It's an end we might face one day here too, probably without the cruel reprieve IMDB users are experiencing right now.

'Real' discussion and 'real' analysis too frequently boggles the mind of people who just want to talk about the latest Bay flick and Megan Fox's ass. The message board just wasn't palatable to the general Internet user.

It's not a 'might', it's a 'when'. Either one day Sarah will stop paying the bills or the FBI will shut the site down as a whole. The big question is which will come first.

or the FBI will shut the site down as a whole
Or Varese.
You know if Varese started an advertisement program for third-party websites, they can get Shrine to have an ad on every page on Shrine.
And force all external links to pass through an ad for Varese like linkshrink does.
They can make back their profits on all the piracy that users like bart still commits.
I've never seen anything useful in the IMDb boards.
The most useful stuff I've read is from top-rated user reviews.

Downright ridiculous?! It's part of their goddamn domain and they're well within their right to do whatever they want with any bit of it.

Tbh I didn't even know IMDb had a message board until everyone made a big stink about it shutting down. 95% of users are probably like me and just want a quick reference to which actor was in that one movie. There's no use in keeping something that is used by a very small group of visitors. It's just basic business.

While the past decade has seen the boards become awash in trolling and cape shit (like everywhere else), you will find numerous anecdotes from folks in the biz, film collectors and aficionados as well as relatives, friends and biz associates of both the living and deceased.

I'm sad to see it go, but I completely understand why. Because if you really wanted to discuss any film/actor/person in the industry, there are plenty of those people on the boards who you can get into a lengthy discussion with. Hell, I've done so myself. There have been movies that I didn't quite understand and people have their words and opinions and helped me see things differently. You could also get a specific details about anything - like asking a certain question, and someone would answer it.
But I haven't posted there in years. I'd usually just go to read the conversations and learn some things.

Seen in a sober light, yes you're right. But there's still a fairly active userbase that cares a great deal about those boards and IMDB's management just takes all of that away from us, without any compensation or replacement.
Also, I'd like to see that rational behaviour of yours once the FFS bites the dust.

That really sucks about IMDB message boards! I use it all the time. Why would they do that?

The world isn't going to end for me with the end of FFS, don't worry. All the time I spend here is devoted to moderation-related actions, been buying music legally for years and, well, Film/Movie/Television-music doesn't really interest me (I'm not after unreleased material, recording sessions, etcetera).
So, yeah, not that big of a loss for poor ol' LSK. To be excessively blunt: when FFS will die, I won't give a fuck.

The site died years ago LSK... It's only life support til the plug is pulled.

I know. The only thing keeping it somewhat "afloat" is the Download Links area, whoever was in charge at the time saw easy+fast "money income" with that.

Fine. Then take any site you care a dime about and imagine it vanish into thin air. It's not so hard to understand.

Implying I don't understand? Hahahah! It's not that at all, I'm simply… What's the word in English… Detached, I think: there is no website/board which becomes important to me, a few users are usually another story, but we find ways to keep in touch elsewhere.
Loss of data, or other meaningful stuff? "Been there" many times and always walked away from it, that "jerk-post" which I first made here? That has been my mindset ever since I approached the Internet: I "surf" the Web knowing that any part of it isn't "eternal", so to speak and either the owners of the domain (or technical issues) might take stuff away, among other things. They're doing what they can do, big deal, does it happen to "damage" others? Heh, there are terms of service, usually with a clause which states something along the lines of:
"The user accepts that the website's owners might shutdown the place (or a part of it) without notice, and he/she won't hold them responsible for any damage that may occur as a consequence of such action."
Who in their right mind would call them bastards?

FFS is important, it's like "a second home" for a lot of users but you have to multiply your sources and keep in touch with users you like to continue without FFS and before the final shutdown who will happen one day.

Never heard it, or read about it. A messages board on IMdB?? Never interested me and as 98% of the users don't give a damn.
When FFS is dead, another one will rise up. Remember the Phoenix?? Or even better. Remember the french.... Le roi est mort, vive le roi!
What.cd is dead, apollo is rising....

Your last line is supposed to be a joke right ? The only replacement to What which is rising is PassTheHeadphone known as redacted since yesterday ( and NotWhat to a degree). Staff of Red/NWCD is way better than Apollo one and they have more content and a better invite forum. Also they reached their user limit right now, who know when they will rise it?
Also FFS death will impact more than the death of a general music private tracker, why ? Just because FFS is mainly filled with 'unofficial' content which are for the majority users works (Expended stuff, gamerips etc ...)
when you can still reupload a lot of official stuff on another tracker, or simply buy them if they are still available, this would be mostlikely a merely impossible situation because no one here really will know where to go (obviously, its not like there is an IRC/Discord when we are active on) and because the community is composed of A LOT of leechers who probably never cared about uploading/reuploading stuff
So yeah if the FFS happen to dies tomorrow that would suck

Meh. There's EmuParadise for game-rips and the likes, at least that one allows me to play a bit of Pac-Man while it is doing forum-backups.

A few words of consideration. While life support is a scary premise for someone who would have never learned so much from other sources, I'd just like to thank those who continue to provide input and material in a fashion that isn't covered in crap and hard to make out from true crap. FFS continues to be a place to learn and perfect the science that is scoring.
Thought experiment, you're Gia or Zim and you come across these forums (trolling aside) and you actually learn about what people can't stand. For some, this is a death knell to their careers, for others, the challenge is accepted. If no one ever told Jackson Pollock "I don't get it," the strokes of the brush may have never changed. Einstein, on the other hand, would never stop talking, regardless of people listening or jotting down his beautiful non-sense. In summary - potato - potatoe, but always best served with meat?
