Growing up I never really cared for music one way or another.
But for some reason I was highly optimistic about the last Harry Potter film and the Mariposa Lane Music used in the trailer really caught my attention (as well as other music used in the marketing campaign). I started collecting it all for personal listening, then branched out to trailer music in general, then film scores, and six years later here I am.

I could never be too big about a lot of music back when I was younger, considering that my family would play a lot of the same Spanish shit. However, before my big musical discovery journey that began with Daft Punk's big hit of 2013, I guess you could say this song I had found preloaded on my aunt's old Nokia phone many years ago (https://youtu.be/EOJUuMOp-So) planted the seeds for my taste in general.

Got the soundtrack on cassette for my birthday in 1995. The rest is history.

I suppose the earliest vgm I ever heard was the original Mario Bros theme, but Uematsu and Mitsuda got me hooked with FF4/FF6/Chrono Trigger.

My favorite genre is a lot more obscure though, and there's not really a linear path to get there. I started breaking away from the crap that tries to pass itself off as metal on the radio some time in high school and got into a lot of power and prog bands, most of which I can't stand today. Blind Guardian (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoyToHOWSV8) was a big one that I still have tremendous respect for, and I think if the vgm fans listen to that track they might see room for mutual appeal.

Opeth (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT_waNzdKMg) and Nokturnal Mortum (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U_QYi6spxs) were my gateway drugs into more aesthetic stuff and I ultimately ended up fixed on black/pagan/folk metal for a long time.

I was listening to indie rock and post-rock a lot simultaneously, and I had it in my head for a while that I wanted to hear some black metal bands take a more post-rock approach to the genre. When Alcest (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVzLJqZY3lo) actually did that in 2005 it was the sexiest thing to ever grace my ears. Since then post-black metal has really caught on as a thing and the vast majority of what I listen to today falls into that genre.

Krallice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fITAdkWngbo) perfected the art on their 2008 self-titled debut and remain without question my favorite band today.

Blade Runner. Movie and score. Ridley Scott put the future I had in my head in front of my eyes. Vangelis provided the music.

Same deal with Dak. Although, I hated the songs, except "Be Prepared". Another contender would have to be The Phantom Menace, of course, I was 5 years old at the time and before I saw any of the original trilogy. Hell, I even liked Jar-Jar! That choral piece when they swim to Otoh Gunga is just beautiful. And come on, do I need to say anything about "Duel of the Fates"?

VG Music: God of War III (Brothers of Blood) which lead to my VGM love affair which lead to...

Film Music: Batman Begins (Molossus) which slowly evolved into a love of both bombastic music (BvS pleasedontlynchme) and stuff like Moonlight (Nicholas Britell) and composers like Abel Korzeniowski.

Electronic Music: Started with the game DJ Hero which lead me to Daft Punk and later to labels like Monstercat.

I've never seen the 2001 remake (though I hear I'm not missing much). But I have seen 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', which I encourage anyone reading to stay far away from.

And as far as TV is concerned, well, it would have to be Star Trek TOS*.

Elfman's score was at least good. The main title is awesome. It even got a La-La Land expanded release.

Rise sucked, but Dawn was awesome.
