As the title suggests I am wondering what you guys think are the best scores of 2016 (only scores released this year count, not the sessions that have been leaked this year). I enjoyed this score too, but I thought that a lot of it was just a variation on a theme, and sounded pretty repetitive to me. But it's definitely an enjoyable listen.

I think the very first track is wonderfully orchestrated, but that motif gets very tiresome afterwards. It's as if Jackman - and the Russos - can't trust their audiences to be thinking human beings, and so cram the theme in wherever they think it remotely pertinent.
Spidey's theme is too brassy and contradicts with Holland's performance. I think buoyant woodwinds would have been more appropriate (there's a specific point during the airport scene where this is shown to work).
Black Panther's theme is too often eschewed for tiresome ethnic woodwinds we've heard a thousand times before.
There's rarely any callbacks to Jackman's work for Cap 2, which is a shame, since it's the superior work in every aspect. Cap's theme from that film is completely forgotten in favor of something that sounds like a prototype of Silvestri's Avengers theme, but sadly any resemblance is surely a coincidence.
The "War" theme is hugely enjoyable though.

The incidental music doesn't have much to say in any way at all.

Even if Correspondence were only a 30 minute album, it's the caliber of Morricone's compositions which garner my respect and praise (diametrically opposite: Gia's R1).

Yeah I can't say I care for it all that much, but it's not terrible. It's better than whatever Giacchino is gonna come up with....

Then you should be happy the insert found in 4m36-37 Bucky Escapes was removed from the film. Personally, I love ethnic woodwinds and find it fitting for his character.

I think it would serve you well to not take criticism of what you like so personally. I heavily disagree with gururu when it comes to Hans Zimmer, DAK when it comes to Giacchino, and Skelly to a lot of things. And yet I have a lot of respect for them on this forum. It's not like they think less of you because you think differently.

What in the hell are you talking about? Moments such as 0:32 - 0:39 of "Jedha Arrival", 1:39 - 1:46 of "Jyn Erso & Hope Suite", and 1:26 - 2:11 of "Guardians of the Whills Suite" always get me up. No trouble there.

I can't say for certain, but I wonder if that insert was for the deleted scene where Black Widow and Panther chat about Bucky's incarceration.

That I think is the general "Avengers" theme for the film. This is the theme from Winter Soldier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEZBeIBHR3A&t=1m00s
They're very different. There's a few notes from brass that sound a little bit like the aforementioned Avengers theme but again, I'm pretty sure that's only present in Civil War.

Some people might call me a heretic but I didn't find much substance in John Williams's The BFG either. It's like his work for the first Harry Potter, but without the prolonged motifs to keep the cogs of the audience's mind turning. That was my impression just from watching the film; maybe an OST listen will change my mind. Anyway, why is this appearing on people's lists? Is there something I'm missing? I just felt like I was listening to a Harry Potter spiritual successor...

The BFG appears on my commendable list because Williams applied his customary professional polish to a bona-fide turd.

To appreciate the score it's best to disassociate it from the film. Also, the long-standing issue with Williams' scores for these children's fantasy films is that there's just too much of it, and there's too much music because these films would be deadly bores without the underscore incessantly prodding the viewer along.

This criticism can apply to practically all of the poorly written, flabby film narratives released in the past 15 16 years.

That seems to be the case with most road trips where I'm given control over the speakers.

My absolute favourite: Eddie the Eagle (I "discovered" it on YT a couple of weeks ago, now I must have listened to it at least 30 times entirely).
Then, Arrival, Batman v Superman and X-Men: Apocalypse.
I also liked Rogue One.
