I think sports are the most boring activity ever invented.
I guess they were pretty cool back in the old days when the Greeks ran around doing the Olympics naked, and in Rome when there were gladiators and chariot races and such, but now it's just a bunch of overpaid sweaty guys fumbling around for a ball.
What are your thoughts on sports? Yea or nay?

Nay. Exception: The Super Bowl and The Olympics.

I'm in the minority (in my family) when it comes to the Olympics, and I don't know why. It's an epic event that literally the entire world participates in and it only happens once every 4 years. Rio was a blast to watch this year, and I look forward to Tokyo 2020. Should Los Angeles be the host city in 2024 (they put in a bid 2 weeks ago), I pray I'm living there by then.

I'm into fighting games "esports," although I loath that term, so I understand it from that perspective. Football and basketball aren't interesting games to me, but Street Fighter and Melee are. I have players I favor and those I dislike, and at really high profile events I root for players that represent my homeland. It's fun.

Though I will say what I don't understand is having local pride in teams that aren't local. Here in Philly people are especially notorious for being violently loyal to their teams, and I always have to bite my tongue when I want to remind them most of their beloved Eagles are just dudes from other cities who were bought.

This is essentially accurate, but I don't mean to suggest it's necessarily the speed that really makes the difference. The speed is a side effect of what actually makes Melee such an interesting competitive game, which is the number of options characters have, how dangerous being offstage is and the extent to which it rewards aggressive play.

When eSports was introduced to the world, all of sports became a joke.

When atheletes juice up or party and get caught doing bad things, it was just poor taste.
Sure, they're human. But pick any hockey player or football player and make up a fake photo of them doing something bad and ending up in the news, and no one will be the wiser nor surprised. It's happened so much that it's entirely believable.

The only thing I know about hockey is that everything is offside and the referees are bought off by some underground mob that runs the bookies and have something setup with people who run the NHL.
At least that's what everyone says when their (arbitrary) favorite team starts to lose and the referee doesn't call offside.

So now, with eSports, it's not just illegal drugs or enhancement drugs that we have to continually be concerned about and screen for every game, but entire teams dosing up on some illegal energy drink just to play a tournament for some dumbass honor.

I would have loved to taken more martial arts.
Were it not for the competitive aspect.
They say it's not the key element.
But no student takes martial arts just for the sake of learning.
All of martial arts in North America are subtle about imploring competitive sports upon their students at every school.
They just casually bring it up like inception and let the pupils develop the idea themselves.
Garbage. All of it.
It's like the asshole kid in the first Karate Kid movie won and never celebrated with the karate kid at all.

Commercial ideals fuel sports.
Not honor.

I say let people sign up to hunt each other.
Bring back the gladiators, slaves, animal abuse and blood.

implement them in prisons. criminals can fight and who ever wins goes free or has their sentenced reduced considerably. if the guy was on death row, this is revoked and lessed to years in prison, years depend on the crime.

the battles are sanctioned obviously, so they have inmunity during the matches.
think of the remake of death race. a bunch of prisoners racing/killing each other and billions of people watching.
i would totally pay money to sit in a colliseum-like place and see two or more criminals duke it out with swords and spears etc on the arena.
and who knows, a guy who won his freedom could make this a career.

The problem with that is winners will let the victory go to their heads and begin to think themselves as really good fighters, and will be spurred by this confidence to commit violent crimes outside the prison.

That's not a problem at all. Then ROKUSHO will don his black trench coat and wide-brimmed hat, grab his twin pistols The Void and The Abyss, turn up just the corner of his mouth in a slight self-assured smile, and say, "Hmmph. Time to hunt..."

When he brings them in, they will be placed in the town square, flogged with razor-tipped whips, and then fed alive to dogs while all the townspeople watch. Then ROKUSHO will draw 3D fan art of their corpse being raped by a frog monster and sell it to the highest bidder.

I say we implement it. We'll need to make sure Hillary doesn't get into the white house, though.

that can happen, or it might not. the prisoner can choose to make this a career and can satisfy his bloodlust "legally" if he has it.
why kill people ina way that can get you in trouble with the law again when you can do it in the arena and be cheered for it?

remember, these are gladiatorial battles. gladiators, while commonly slaves, were also mercenary warriors, soldiers and even emperors. glory in the arena at the time was like acting in movies today. you were renown the world over. a psychotic killer will not let that pass up. the vast majority of killers had killed for the attention they give, albeit anonymously but in their mind, the totally want the world to know THEY did it, and not get caught.

sure, there are exceptions, but its in the 100's and 80 of them have never been caught, precisely because they are not psychotic.
take the zodiac killer. he killed and left extremely cryptic clues for the police to capture him, but they never did.
those are the methodical killers, the ones that plan months ahead of time, and make absolutely sure they didnt leave evidence. to compare to fiction, take the trinity killer from dexter. his victims were women, and while we are shown that he gets into the bathtub with them, he never touched them sexually, so as to not risk leaving evidence even if you wear a condom and youre fucking a corpse). it took ONE mistake to get him caught. those that dont make mistakes are never caught.

these arent just fancy pay per view events, the point of this is to bring back gladiatorial battles, with the prize being something worth fighting and possibly die for: freedom. fame and fortune are an extra that always comes to the victors.
the other point is crowd control on the penitentiaries.
