Here's a gem from the 1980's. A rare collaboration between artists Michel Colombier and Larry Carlton for an underated score. I was able to extract the score from the DVD. Although the DVD has not an offical isolated score, most of the pieces are isolated. There are about 3 tracks with voices or special effects sounds, the rest is pretty clean.
Here's the listing:
01 The Search
02 Touchdown
03 Tommy
04 Sunset Boulevard
05 The Palace
06 Terry
07 Hotel Room
08 Cozumel
09 Jessie
10 Is the Prettiest Place in the Island / For Love Alone
11 Running at Sunset / Is so Perfect Here
12 Chichen Itza
13 Love and Murder
14 Back in L.A.
15 The Strand
16 Seeing Jessie Again
17 Night at Jake's
18 El Solitario
19 The Job
20 The Safe
21 Jake
22 The Phone Call
23 Rock And Roll Jaguar
24 Jake's Death
According to the DVD commentaries, director Taylor Hackford says that when the movie was released, the public did not like the score, they found it too eerie, I personally think it's brilliant. I do hope you enjoy it.
I want to comment on the tracks:
01 to 09, 11, 12, 14-17, 19, 21-23. All of these tracks are completely free of voices and sound effects.
Spoiler alert:
10: Has the voice-over of Rachel Ward: "Don't leave without saying goodbye" which I don't mind at all, in fact I love the track because of it.
13: Has some tropical forest ambient sound at the begining, very low though. This came from the bluray, the one on the dvd have Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward characters breathing and moaning at the begining, the bluray version is sharper. In both recordings, the rest is exactly the same. When the music gets really intense, you can sort of hear a gunshot, some rocks, then the faded echoes of the same actors yelling at each other, and later on the song of a vulture. That to my taste, all of there elements add emotion and intensity to the piece that is priceless. Oh! there are some brief sounds of stones at some point.
18: Has some seagulls in the background, not very noticeable
In the next two, I do mind the sounds effects, if anyone has clean tracks of those, please share!:
20: You can hear a dog barking and growling, halfway thought the piece.
24: You can hear Jeff Bridges yelling some phrases at the begining.
And finally, some of the tracks in this set are included in the released soundtrack, but the ones here are slightly faster, I guess they had to fit the music into the scene.
Please PM to send you the link.
I designed a new cover to differentiate it from the released soundtrack.
