In just a few days the American people will celebrate the 240th Anniversary of the signing of their Declaration of Independence from the British Crown. This year also marks the 87th annual Boston Pops 4th of July Esplanade Concert with fireworks, a tradition started by Arthur Fiedler in 1929. In 1974, thanks to the enormous popularity of the Scott Joplin rags used in the movie, THE STING, Fiedler presented a number of Joplin pieces at his 4th. concert and recorded an album appropriately titled “Fiedler in Rags”, which included orchestral arrangements of ragtime music by Joplin and other composers. Although a couple of the tracks were featured on “Greatest Hits CDs”, “Fiedler in Rags” has never seen release on CD and has been out of print since the demise of the LP in the late 1980s. This download is derived from a reasonably clean DSD archived Polydor USA LP. “Fiedler in Rags” is one of Arthur Fiedler’s best recorded, greatest albums and features spectacular sound. I think you will find it to be sheer musical joy from start to finish.
