Hello! I wanted to make a good impression for my first post, so here is a little project I've been working on for the span of the past two evenings! I have completely disassemlbed, scanned, and ripped the DAYTONA USA ANNIVERSARY BOX for your archival and listening pleasure. Please find in this thread links for various formats for all four CDs (I've separated them to ease the load for some users which may have a slower connection), as well as links for the ridiculously high-quality scans I've created at 4800dpi, for maximum quality recreation. (Beware! the file is huge!). I've scanned both sides of the covers, the front and back and all ten pages of the booklet and all four CDs! I used a CANON LiDE220 flatbed scanner to scan the images and GIMP for some touchups. As for the audio, I used EAC to rip them! (This isn't my technical strongpoint, but I've managed to create a log, cue and m3u for each disk!).

I began this project Wednesday night as an idea to really blow you guys out of the water with a really nice contribution and level of quality which I hope to continue here (all illegalities aside.. haha). It took roughly ten hours to scan and rip all of the content. I hope it was worth it! I really love taking the time to scan covers, it's very relaxing! I really enjoy the music of Takenobu Mitsuyoshi. All links will be hosted on MEGA because it is the quickest upload service for my region. If a link becomes unavailable, feel free to send me a PM and I'll fix it! If someone wants to create mirror on other sites (maybe your region has a faster service than MEGA?), reply with your reupload and I'll add it to this original post so everyone can see it!

Feel free to ask any questions, and I'll do my best to answer!
The password for all files here-on out is Voyager

Unfortunately this collection suffers from a MASSIVE "loudness war" symptom and is therefore unbearable.
If you guys want to enjoy Daytona USA osts, download the original .isos of Sega Saturn's Daytona USA 1 and CCE edition and do your own rips.
The music is untouched and crystal clear.
Also, there's a version of Daytona USA arcade (which sounds a bit different) on ffshrine somewhere, and it's great too.
If you're a true audiophile, avoid collections like this as they're usually remastered and therefore dynamics are destroyed. :(
(it was the case for Outrun, Hangon, and Afterburner collection... Sad...)

I agree darling, the sound is too loud! I should hear at 30 instead of 40 - 50 as usual.

Thanks for the CD. Trebble boost already a bit aggressive mastering.

It's true that a lot of commercial mastering these days is very dynamically compressed, and unfortuantely it happens all forms of audio, whether it be the Bilboard top 40, film music and video game music alike :( Personally I don't have a problem with it, and actualy I kind of really love the in-your-face sound that happens with Dynamic compression. Thanks for sharing those game files as well!

Thanks for the rip.

I'd like to comment on the scans, though. The resolution you chose exceeds not only the actual resolution content of the material scanned, but even the physical capacity of your scanner.
zoom in to text and diagonal hard lines. You will see there's a saw-tooth like distorsion and blur gradients take several pixels. This is because the dpi you chose exceeds the optical and mechanical positioning capacity of your scanner.
The optics problem results in a scan that just wastes space, but the mechanical problem actually produces a scan that's lower quality than if you had chosen a lower resolution, with a very specific kind of aliasing.

I suggest you check your scanner's actual specifications and perform some tests to determine what's a reasonable dpi that doesn't introduce problems.

I have a much older scanner than yours that really tops out at the specified 600dpi, but the driver/software allows to go much higher, but when I do that I get the same problem. diagonals turn into sawtooths and the extra resolution is wasted on out of focus blur because the physical capacity of the scanner can't match the requested dpi.

You said you went for 4800dpi... well, I'd say 1200 would probably be a good starting point for your scanner. Also realize that even that probably exceeds the definition of the source material.

EDIT: At least avoid the aliasing caused by the inaccurate mechanical repositioning caused by asking more resolution than physically possible.
