THE COMPLETIST'S DELUXE EDITION
Whenever I want to showcase the Final Fantasy score for my friends I use the excellent release from SonicAdventure, in collaboration with Heidl and Fink.
But I couldn't help it: If one film score deserves a complete release, it's "Final Fantasy". It's Elliot Goldenthal as his very best - and after all: this is the Final Fantasy Shrine. So I went back to the complete sessions to improve the listening experience while preserving the score in it's entirety. I put much effort in this presentation and it was a labour of love.
All of the sessions cues are in - except for the 2nd version of Dream B (2M13 Dream B in the original cue listing)
The 46 cues of the sessions have been combined into 15 tracks with Cross-Fadings, running about 90 minutes.
Cues have been resequenced to fit my musical taste. Some cues were combined for musically reasons (right on metre if possible), some were sequenced to give more variety and a narrative listening experience. I didn't care about film sequence.
The Tracks were dynamically compressed to dim the strong dynamics inherent in the sessions. This was done with a longer timeframe as usual to preserve the impression of a dynamics. I used the same technique as with my release of James Horner's "Balto" some time ago.
For you completists enjoying a good listening experience: Here it is, my alternate "Deluxe" Edition of Elliot Goldenthal's score for "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" - a compelling musical journey for a film in your imagination.
This edition could not have been possible without our generous member and friend Momonoki's magnificent release of the scoring sessions.
I cannot thank Momonoki enough for sharing these sessions with us to study, enjoy and share.
