I went to the dentist for the first time in 3 years (after getting a root canal) and I am quite amazed that I didn't have a single cavity! I'm pretty lazy about brushing my teeth before bed, so this was a nice surprise. However, I did have an awful lot of tarter buildup and my appointment was 2 hours long -_- 8-10am wasn't very fun and now my jaw is sore.
Now, TELL ME YOUR DENTIST STORIES!
Like, in 2008, I had a previous dentist give me a shoddy filling which happened to fall our randomly in 2010 after I moved to Canada and was insurance-less. I couldn't get it fixed until 2012 and by then the problem had gotten pretty bad so I needed to have a root canal. This b's got gold her in her mouth now D: I cried a lot over needing that dental work.
I have total of 6 fillings (including the crown/root canal) which is apparently pretty decent for someone that will be 30 at the end of the month. I'm a horrible flosser.

I hate the dentist so I use that motivation to brush a lot ;_;
When I was little I had to go to some specialist but I don't remember why, my mum says my teeth were coming in weak and with no enamel or something? So they filled lots of them for some reason I really don't remember why. But I do remember hearing a little girl screaming the next room over and I was scared they were going to do to me whatever they were doing to her... they didn't. Though I'm wasn't too convinced she left alive?

I haven't been to the dentist in a long time cause I'm dumb, but when I did go, I had this dentist in south Philly who I had a crush on. Her name was Dr. Tang and she was like the mythical cute asian dentist you dream of but think doesn't exist. She was always really excited about all the dentist things she did, not like that stupid elf from Rudolph but in a really genuine way, and one time I asked her about it, saying I didn't understand how someone could find dentistry so interesting. She explained that she loved teeth and thought they were the coolest thing in the world. I thought that was pretty great.
Then one time I was there and for some reason she was talking about how she wanted to go see the Ellen Degeneres show because they gave free gifts to the audience or something and it ruined everything. No more dentist crush. Oh well.

Generally speaking there's no reason why your teeth should be in bad shape even if you only do the bare minimum, unless you regularly consume stuff that's really shit for them. Lots of sweets, alcohol or whatever.
I hate sweets but I love alcohol more than most other things so I have to be pretty diligent with the tooth brushin'.

prty sure you're supposed to get the crown after the root canal anyway. it's like, the final sealing step or something.
happy but then sad dentist story
I'm really sorry that her Ellen comment really ruined it for you lol Do you still go to that dentist or have you moved on to greener pastures?

Mom decided to take me to the dentist after realising I've never had a proper check up of sorts. We go there for a check only. I had to bite this foam that gave an x-ray of my teeth. Turns out I had quite a few cavities in a couple places, so I needed fillings. They devised a system: every once a month, they would focus on one section of the teeth, so that it would be a slow but steady progress. The next time I went, it was only for clean up in preparation. I was told not to eat little to no candy in the time that would be waiting for the first operation. Considering it was the end of 10th grade and there were lots of parties, it's safe to say I didn't follow through on the request. Once I got to the third visit, they did my upper teeth far to the right.
Never mind how nervous I got every visit, it never turned out to be bad whatsoever. It helps that they told me I came at perfect time: had I gone much later in life under the circumstances I was in, my teeth would've been much worse. Once the first operation was done, I just had to wait an hour and a half to make my teeth go back to normal. Within the time my teeth were being operated, it only ever felt like they were agressively tapping my tooth. In the case of fillings, it's never anything to be worried about. Just take care your teeth, please.

How the hell did that ruin things? Everyone likes free gifts, even the people that aren't greedy. Are you sure that's what she was talking about? It was probably a one time thing she decided to bring up.
I don't mean to be bothersome about it, but that is such a shallow and superficial reason to no longer have a crush. Just go to that dentist again and see if she brings it up again. Reading that really made me pissed off for the wrong reasons.

I am worried for my mouth health. I have had cavities for a year that I haven't taken care of because I'm a huge pussy and I don't want a shot, a chocking x-ray or anything. Also, what's worse; I might really need braces and I don't want to pass through that. Since my teeth are like.. somewhat twisted or whatever, my 18 year old teeth are taking slow to grow and in the bad place, so they might need to get pull off which is, honestly the worst of all of this..
:/ But I'm a huge pussy and I can't do it. I really can't.

I had braces when I was in middle school (for only 2 years) and I was so scared about it and didn't want them, but of course got them anyway. After my braces were taken off, I was given a retainer that I had to wear every day and I remember it being very painful. I stopped wearing it and of ocurse my teeth shifted out of place, but they aren't as bad as they used to be. I really wish my braces dentist had opted for the retainer that is cemented into yoru mouth. I wold have appreciated that a lot more.
Oh yeah, and one time I took my retainer our to eat at a restaurant with my family. I didn't have the case, so I just wrapped it in a paper napkin. Big mistake. I forgot all about it after we left and I had to help my mom search for it in the DQ dumpster.... -____________-
We never found it.
anyway, what I'm trying to say is that braces aren't actually that bad and they may even be better than they were 15 years ago. With braces, my mom bought me a fancy spin toothbrush which was a big bonus for me at the time.
As for cavities, get them filled now before they turn into something worse where you'll need a root canal and crown. Those things are so much more expensive and most health plans don't cover it 100% so you'll be paying out of pocket for it. General cleanings and fillings are usually covered 100%... take advantage if you can!!

If you're really that concerned, go to the dentist as soon as you can. You have your fears, but that shouldn't dictate you whatsoever. We are all scared at some point, but we learn to grow past them. Besides, if you wait too long, your teeth will kill you, making you suffer even without even going to the dentist. You don't want that, do you?
I was very nervous when my mom decided to take me. At that point, I had no clue what was up with my teeth. Considering the things I had been doing to my stomach all these years, I was too scared to know about my teeth. However, once all sessions passed, I feel very confident, even if I haven't gotten the hang of brushing my teeth before I sleep (partially because my sleep schedule is messy).

I'm just scared of having to get teeth pulled, or the anesthesia shot. Or the X-RAY that I'll surely have to take, cuz X-RAYS are kinda choking.. well the one I took in 2005, was.
I think cavities don't feel as bad, I took some in 2005, and after the shot you really didn't feel anything, you just were an hour with open mouth. You only feel something cold in your teeth and water splashing. Still.. don't want to go through it.

If you solve your problems sooner, you don't have to talk about them anymore. Besides, they'll try their best to ensure you don't feel much pain. There is far worse pain that one can deal with once we stop talking about teeth by itself. I sure felt fine during and after operations, though that might be because I only have fillings to deal with.

Also, the x-ray I had to deal with was simpy biting foam. Nothing really painful.

It was choking you? I take it that it was too big for you. The one they used was reasonably sized, so I never had issue breathing.
My parents knew how to push me to brush everyday. Now it's only a matter of doing it at night that will cause me trouble.
Look, I care for you as much as I would care for my real life friends. Consult someone closer to you about your teeth problem. Maybe you'll get a bettter reaction there.

OH yeah, the foam bits for xrays are uncomfortable for me too, but I have a fairly small mouth compared to most adults. They always jab close to my throat. Thankfully they only need about 3 or 4 xray shots.

Urrrgggg.... I hate going to the dentist so much since my double route canal from 2011, I swear for me going into the chair is almost PTSD-inducing. Sadly however I had to go back there a few days ago to clean up the tarter on my lower front teeth and there's less than an handful of cavities to fix yet.

Finished with the session. Turns out they had to do one more tooth on the same section as before. It all went fine, but my teeth feel more numb than last time (so much so that I can feel it from my lip) and I had a much harder time breathing for whatever reason. Still, I'm rather glad I'm dealing with it now.

Last time I went to the Dentist was probably 2009? I done some design work for my mates mum who was a dentist and they needed to spruce up their non-existing logo or something. But I remember she told me I should floss more. I told her I never floss. So yeah. I only floss when I can feel food in my teeth after I've eaten, and once I get a little piece out, I have to do my whole mouth hah. But yeah, my teeth are all good I think.
ps, back in high school, dental care was FREE!!!!
