Hi all,

I saw a couple requests for this so I wanted to upload it. There are 89 tracks in total. Some notes on this release:

There were two versions of Kate's Psalm that seemed to vary slightly so I left both in.

In the file naming structure you'll notice there are a series of mus_explore_woods_comp songs. In the source files, for some reason mus_explore_woods_04 doesn't exist, so they're named 1,2,3,5,6.

I included some "Combined" tracks in a separate folder in which some of the songs seemed like they could have possibly had multiple tracks mixed together to create one song, so there are six tracks that are experimentations with this. Frank's track is confirmed via Youtube videos (I haven't played the game) to have orchestral music mixed in with the choral track, so in this rip the source files actually have the orchestral and choral separated. The Rapture_Frontend and Rapture_PauseMenu I wasn't so sure about but I did them anyway.

I didn't really have to alter the source material much, other than removing long bouts of silence in some of the tracks (upwards of 15-20 seconds of silence at the start of some tracks. It's probably how the game mixes the song in.)

Please let me know if you feel there are any tracks missing. Everything included in this rip came from the music folders in the package files, so I'm pretty confident the only thing I left out was ambient and sound effect files. I extracted some of them just to double check what was in them, but it was mostly just short clips of individual instruments and such.

Also, I have to say I'm a pretty big fan of Wendy's Psalm. It's such a beautiful piece of work.

Thanks a lot for the rip. Turns out the CD release was fairly complete and noticably better quality.

Alternates from CD:
mus_explore_village_01_comp <- has vocals on CD (Finding the Pattern) (the vocal version appears with SFX in mus_game_opening)
mus_explore_farm_04_comp <- has a violin solo on CD (An early harvest)
mus_franks_psalm <- seperate choir and orchestra tracks in gamerip (Call me back to her arms)
mus_kates_psalm <- different version from KatesPsalm which appears to be the CD version (The light we cast)

Not present on CD (if I didn't have any brainfarts):
mus_explore_woods_06_comp
mus_camp_opening
mus_camp_changingrooms (althought it appears to be a cut of mus_observatory_finaltilt/I am not afraid)
mus_camp_showerblock
mus_estate_levelcrossing
mus_explore_observatory_A_01
mus_explore_observatory_B_01
mus_farm_cattleshed
mus_farm_caravan
mus_farm_frankshill
mus_village_amanda
mus_village_basement
mus_village_bridge
mus_village_lizziehouse
mus_village_shop
mus_village_wadehouse

As far as quality goes, I think short of the source material being a lossless format this will always be the case. Developers use very high compression container files (this one was FSB5) where the container file is the same size as one song would be once you convert it to WAV. They are still decent quality, but unless your source files (like the Wii U games) are lossless, CD quality will always be better.

On mus_explore_farm_04_comp, it might be possible for me to extract the violin solo since all of the songs had 4 tracks in them: 2 for the left/right stereo channel and 2 mono tracks that can technically play individually. It would be pointless for me to do so, since as you said, the CD release quality is better.

Thanks for taking the time to point out the differences as I'm sure others who like this music will like having that knowledge.

Yes, of course you are correct, although in this case I believe it's more to do with mixing rather than just bitrate - the game tracks seem to me like they have toilet-ish reverbation compared to the CD versions. Pardon the words. ;) Unless there's something more to those 4 channels in every file that you mention...

Glad I checked back to FFShrine for this, as I'm probably asked for this rip somewhere on the site.
Firstly, I just want to express my undying thanks to OrophinCalmcacil. You are an amazing human being & the sort of person that makes the internet a pleasure to use.
Secondly, I downloaded this rip about a week ago & decided to match each of these tracks to those from the OST, mainly to satisfy myself (despite biatch's good work above) which & how many new tracks there truly were.
Thus, I spent two whole nights meticulously comparing & contrasting each & every track. A somewhat tricky task in parts, despite my being pretty familiar with the OST. I'm now confident that I have correctly identified all the main tracks from this rip. I spent a further night messing around trying to OCR (somehow) the list below so that I could share it here. I thus, hope some of you can utilise the info & hopefully agree with my determinations.
Here's the list. Note, I have put all tracks into one list, kept the original names from the rip, & simply added a brief description of each track...

Rapture_PauseMenu_05 (Game Menu)
Rapture_PauseMenu_06 (Game Menu)

As you can see, I simply called both the Frontend & PauseMenu tracks 'Game Menu'. This is because, although I'm quite sure only one is used for the Game/Pause menu, the one on my PS4 is different (for some unknown reason) to two others that I found on YouTube. My PS4 being 'Rapture_Frontend_01', & the YouTube PS4 versions are, 'Rapture_Frontend_03'.
OrophinCalmcacil, can I ask if you used an audio-splitter to break up the tracks on this rip? Just wondering, as I used one not so long ago & I found (despite tweaking) that it would shave between 1 & 8 seconds off each track, & the same seems to have happened here. This is not a criticism though, just an observation.
Anyway, if anyone has any questions about my track description-style, or feels like I've mis-named any tracks or am mistaken on any of them, please let me know.
Once again, thanks a million for the rip. Not much actual new material overall, but I certainly appreciate your efforts in ripping one of the best OST's ever.
Cheers.

ps. Almost forgot...Just wondered how big these ambient music files are? Are they long & droning, like at the end in & around the observatory, or just seconds in length? Thanks.

@Thepackage

I don't have the original files on my computer anymore, but I'm sure the ambient tracks were only in the 100s of kilobytes in file size, and typically don't go for more than 10-20 seconds. There wasn't really any music in them, just background sounds like wind, footsteps, etc.

The tracks were extracted from FSB files which can store several files in one container file, so I didn't do anything special to rip the tracks. I'm sure the game developers packed them the way they did because they have some kind of instructions to play a certain file at a certain interval.

There may have been some songs that I deleted some long bouts of silence from, but other than that I don't really do any kind of editing on them, other than on occasion add some fade outs to songs in certain games where the song ends abruptly after doing a loop back to the first few seconds of a previous point in the song.

Glad you enjoyed the rip. I had never played the game but I have to admit the music was enjoyable as I was listening through it.

I just made my own rip and realized that this different mixing I was talking about was indeed due to all 4 channels being downmixed in these mp3s. The original files' stereo channels alone sound identical to the CD mixing.

Any chance that the short ambient tracks could be posted here? Some of them are very haunting despite the shortness (and that they probably contain some SFX).

Additionally, the Combined track mus_woods_sandk_room is not correct, as the tracks play in sequence in the game, not overlayed as was done here.
