FFIII and FFV are really the only two that I haven't played... Well, I have FF Anthology and I played FFV for a while, but I guess I never really got started on it very well. The load times really got on my nerves. Anyway, out of all that I've played, FFI is the hardest, provided you're playing on the NES and not Origins or DOS. Of course, I've only played FFII on DOS, and if FFII is as much easier on DOS as FFI is, then it's unfairly knocked out of the running.

Id have to go with FF1 or 2, I haven't played 3, 4 had a reasonable difficulty, 5 & 6 I havent finished yet...

1 wasn't to bad untill the final dash into the Chaos Temple of the Past, and FF2 had that weird stat developement system, which could make it difficult.

Hardest for me was FF-IV. The moves are to slow sometimes, the final boss is terrible.

FF-V was pretty easy for me, and I loved playing it. I was pretty good at the job system.

I never playes FF-I, II and III. There might be a harder one than FF-IV...

Let's see. I have only played FF7-10, plus the Playstation re-releases. I am playing the NES ones now. I just started Final Fantasy I about 3 hours ago. I hear that massive leveling up is needed, so I have been getting them up. I have all the spells you can get in Corniea. I have the best weapons and armor. Now I am working on getting 99 in all Items.

Is Final Fantasy I really as hard as my cheapo friends say?

FFV really isn't all that hard, at all. It's still one of my favorites, for no other reason than it being insanely entertaining, mainly due to the fact that if you look up "Deus ex Machina" in the dictionary, you'll find "Final Fantasy V". Seriously, play through it and look for all the times the answer to a given problem comes out of NOWHERE. It's worse than the Power Rangers.. not that I watch the Power Rangers or anything...

Right, moving on. The major problem with determining which FF is the hardest is that there is a simple rule of thumb to making it easier. "If you can't get through a certain area or beat a boss, level up some and try again". Because of this, I'd say FFI is the hardest because you want to try and get your expert jobs (or whatever they are called) at the lowest level possible.

From all of the ones that I have had the opportunity to play, I'd have to say V. It's not too hard once you get the hang of it. The bosses are pretty damn brutal sometimes, though, especially if you don't like to level up (which is so slow...)

Agent0042
02-23-2005, 03:11 AM
V can be pretty rough --- I think actually V is a bit different because I'd say a lot of the time in V, beating bosses isn't dependent so much on leveling up as it on knowing the right strategies and tricks, more so than other FF games.

FFIV Hard-Type definitely was quite tough, I'd say maybe that's the toughest.

Venom

Lady Obscurity
02-23-2005, 02:45 PM
I haven't went through IV yet, but it's harder than the rest of them? I wouldn't be surprised. V was a really eye opener. The newer FFs are a lot easier than the old ones. Why is that?

Agent0042
02-23-2005, 09:27 PM
I guess they wanted to be "more accessible" to a wider audience? Well, it certainly worked for them --- FFVII was / is still a runaway hit.

Not that I want to see anybody get into that here --- you know, the rabid pro-FFVII vs. the rabid anti-FFVII forces arguing about just why it was / is so popular.

FF1WithAllThieves

I didn't think FFIV was all that hard. It took me two tries to beat Zeromus, and the reason I lost the first time was that I was too risky. I cast White with Rosa, and that's a big no-no against Zeromus. You need Rosa for curing. Of course, FF games don't typically have extremely difficult last bosses. Even FFI's last boss was easy, although getting to him was not.

I had no trouble with V, and it was one of my first RPGs.

The original was pretty rough if you didn't bother to level up too often, as was IV. Never played III. II was pretty straight forward in the respect that any time you were a little low in a stat you could increase it.

I wonder if the people who are saying games after FFI are the hardest have played the original FFI or just DOS or Origins, because there's a HUGE difference. I think the original FFI is the hardest because of the "ineffectives" and because you literally HAD to spend time levelling up, no matter how balanced your party was (unlike mine).

FF1 in Origins can be made much easier by switching a few options around, such as mid-fight revival of dead charries. It's also much easier to get gold, which makes it much easier to get the good spells and weapons (which is really the point of all the fighting, your levels aren't THAT crucial if you've got the right gear.). One can make FF1 nigh-impossible, depending on what party you fight with. (Four thieves, for instance. :-D ) I still haven't beat V, and I've only played a few minutes of II, but of the ones I've finished...I'd say 1, even though the game gets stupidly easy if you keep the "heal" equipment and use them as items (free cure/heal spells.)

The hardest FF by far was FFII on the NES (not the Origins or DOS versions), which was even harder than the original FF. There was no Exp levels in FFII and you had to level-up each stat seperately by continuously using the associated actions (continuously attack to increase Attack, keep defending to increase Defense, keep getting hit to increase HP, etc). It was important to level-up a lot in that game but because they made it more difficult to level-up, it was really painful.

The NES FFs (FF1-3) were a lot harder than any of the later FFs. Since FFIV, all the FFs seem to have gotten easier in favour of making the gameplay more enjoyable and having deeper storylines.
