Many thanks for this recording, i am not explicite a fan of Alpensinfonie. In my youth I amused myself to the excessive sound and demonstrating my HiFi equipment. The beloved recording of mine is the old EMI Kempe Staatskapelle Dresden quadrophonic recording.

Many thanks for this recording, i am not explicite a fan of Alpensinfonie.I hope Blomstedt and the SFS are able to change your mind about that.

Well Bob, i'll give it a try. Yes, the Kempe record is a quadrophonic LP, never listen to it in quadrophonic because i dont own quadro equipment ;O).... on CD it is the stereo version in that big box set from the 90th. SACD or FLAC is for me only stereo tracks possible, most using headphones or my stereo open baffle loudspeakers. But I am curious how the sao paulo symphony suggests Alpensinfonie. Many thanks in advance.

Awesome thanks! What is your favorite Also Sprach? I like the new City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra/Andris Nelson recording but it has some very strange bass drum dynamics. Extremely close microphone which doesn't quite work as well as I think they intended. Sounds like a mistake.

I'm away from home right now, but when I get back in a couple of days, I'll see about posting it. (It also includes Death & Transfiguration.)

Thanks for this very good post, but i think there is a few versions far superior to Blomstedt......like Sinopoli/Dresden, Ashkenazy/Cleveland, Luisi/Dresden and the best of all to this day, Harding conducting Saito Kinen Orchestra. You must hear it, please!!! The recording is absolutely impressive.

You've got to be kidding. Sinopoli and Ashkenazy superior to the Blomstedt????? I used to own those, and sold them to Half Price Books in disgust (along with Barenboim-Chicago's yawner recording).
If you had mentioned the Shipway-Sao Paulo recording on BIS (which I have posted here in Surround Sound, and will have restored soon), then I could believe that, but we are clearly looking for some very different things in our tastes. I'm not familiar with the Luisi/Dresden or the Harding/Saito Kinen recordings, but I think I'll stick with the Blomstedt and Shipway recordings for now.
Karajan-Berlin (other than one brief moment where the 1st Trumpet sounds like they're about to fall out of their chair while reaching for a high note) and Jarvi-Royal Scottish are also very good, especially if you like bass trombones, as is the Previn-Philadelphia recording (which should be subtitled, "Concerto for Flatulent Bass Trombone and Mountains"). (I might post this one sometime, just for the fun of it.)
Haitink-Amsterdam is another very highly regarded one.
Avoid the Solti version, however. For all the wonderful recordings he did during his career, Alpensinfonie is not one of them. Solti took his trek through the Alps in a Hummer with a battering ram on the front.
But out of all these, Blomstedt and Shipway are still my two favorites.
