This was a last minute buy and surprisingly it came to me on time. Heard samples and fell in love with one. And boy does it not disappoint. Lots to like here. I only wish there even more to dig into. But in any case enjoy! http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq271/leatherhead93/kucing_mikir_zps95512653.gif (http://s455.photobucket.com/user/leatherhead93/media/kucing_mikir_zps95512653.gif.html)

Good pick. Would prefer a proper FLAC + cue release but this will do. Thank ye.

I've bought this album, but the joys of economy shipping mean it could still be weeks before it arrives... so I'm doubly grateful for the chance to hear this. Thank you, LH. :)

Soapbox time: Folks, this is a proper symphonic suite made under studio conditions just like they hardly ever bother to make any more, with an overseas recording thrown in for good measure. Go buy the bloody thing. Do your part. Once upon a time just about every franchise that didn't completely sink got a symphonic suite. Nowadays it is happening about twice a decade. If you care about this stuff to any meaningful extent, put your money where your mouth is. :)

As for the music itself, I find this quite delightful. Kosuke Yamashita has worked wonders on the source material - of variable quality and from vastly different composers - particularly in the very first piece, the twelve-minute medley, which combines work from all four composers but nonetheless makes for a coherent and consistent listen. I wonder why Natsumi Kameoka got short-changed with a smaller (60 players) and badly recorded domestic studio orchestra and all of her arrangements "dumped" on a very lonely Disc 2, whilst Yamashita got all of Disc 1 to himself and a luxurious Czech orchestra recorded in a real concert hall? Both discs total only 75 minutes which would fit comfortably on one disc with space to spare. Does Kameoka not shower or something?

Oh yes, and for the sake of interest... Shiro Hamaguchi didn't arrange anything for this disc. The dual credit on "Beyond Limits" is because Hamaguchi arranged three cues for a smaller orchestra in UNLIMITED and the present medley is substantially based on those arrangements, with a few instrumental changes (most notably at the front of the finale cue) and expanding the existing parts to fit the bigger ensemble.
